I would love to see both BtVS and AtS released on Blu-Ray. What they have done with the old Star Trek series on Blu-Ray is amazing, and the same could be done with Buffy, with greater effect as well.

A Blu-Ray release would be awesome! Don't get me wrong, I love the old DVDs, but I would certainly be interested in getting the Blu-Ray releases. Guess we just have to wait, because I'm pretty sure that this is gonna happen one day...

I wouldn't mind it even though I don't own a blue-ray player. We already have 3 different types of box sets and the chosen set, But hell, What's one more version? lol.

Blu's quality is really higher than the DVD's, but there is a major problem with Buffy being released in Blu...
The HD technology is really usual today, but in Buffy's era, it wasn't. Buffy never got a HD treatment and it couldn't. I'm not an expert but I'm really interested, read a lot about this, and here are the reasons why Buffy won't come to Blu, or if it does, why it probably shouldn't:
> Once the show is filmed, it was edited in video. Today it's all made digitally, but back then, the end result had a massive loss of definition comparing to the film source (which can provide a resolution as high as full-HD). So, that's why Buffy DVDs, as well as the early The X-Files' (and every other video-edited material), for example, doesn't look as clean and good as Lost dvds, or Alias. The editing process is different today.
The Star Trek high-def release was only possible because they re-made EVERY single thing. They got the original film, edited all back together again, and remade all the CGIs, sound effects, etc. That's why there are MAJOR differences between the HD Trek and the original one, I heard, including new computer-generated scenarios and extras.
So, if Buffy, or any "old" show comes to Blu, they will have to be remade all over again. And that's not cheap at all. And if they get the DVD's quality and try to push it up to high-def, it wouldn't work as high-definition at all.
It may sound purist, but I would be really pissed if some studio guys show up and start re-editing the episodes, changing stuff. In case of Angel or the X-Files, a CGI remade would be cool, but Buffy's low-budget-B-movie-vibe is part of the show's essence (at least back in the golden years, 'cause since then everything is getting fancier and bigger). Also, it wouldn't be only CGI changes. They would change countless other details, giving the narrative a whole different reading, like it was with Trek.
Also, the high-definition technology is directly linked to the widescreen system, so Buffy would be released as widescreen, which is not how the mise-en-scene of the show is supposed to look like, as Joss said several times.
So, the DVDs (more specifically the Chosen Collection), to me, are as good as it can get.

You can actually buy a program that converts your dvds or clips on your computer into Blu-Ray so you don't have to buy it all over again. Or maybe that program is illegal...I dunno. Never mind. Anyways, I would LOVE blu-ray Buffy action! Awesomeness!!

It may convert to Blu-Ray format, but for it to have Blu-Ray definition, it depends on the material's source.

Gosh, I wish that we could get it in Blu-Ray. I don't have a player but I would buy one so I could watch Buffy on it. Seasons 1 & 2's quality is pretty poor when you compare it to 6 or 7, so that would be an excellent viewing upgrade. I'd love it! It has to come sometime in the near future...
Marcos.Damata, thanks for the info. I guess I should just settle for a "normal" collection.
Can't they just improve the quality without re-editing?
U welcome, Well, I've heard that they could try to improve the quality from the video (not the unedited film) source, but it would look like when you get a low-def (like 72 dpi) image and convert it to higher definition, like 300 dpi. It doesn't really work. It just softens the image and hides some pixel imperfections. There is no miracle...

Is the Chosen collection of better quality than the season-by-season DVDs? If so, I didn't know that and may need to upgrade.
The discs in the Chosen Collection match the individual season sets. The only benefits to upgrading to the Chosen Collection (if you already own the DVD's) is the extra bonus disc with additional features and the fact that you can save some shelf space.

I wouldn't buy it. Don't use Blu Ray, and I am not a fan of HD (frankly, I was fine without seeing celebreties nasty pimples and other things of the like, and couldn't care less if I can see every single grain in a field of sand fore example). I like HD for animation, but not regular film. I also agree that it would cost way too much money to produce. Because I know that I personally would not repurchase a series I already have on DVD. But if they think enough other people want it, they can go for it.

Oh, no, you got e wrong. I meant that th Chosen Collection is as good as it gets in terms of release ('cause it's all big, and fancy and collection-y), not it's video quality. It's the same discs that come in individual DVDs. No difference there Sorry for the confusion .
