"So let's spoil the many spoiler-phobes invested in the story to help our declining sales!" Ugh, businesses.
Anyways, I'm more than fine with Angel being Twilight, I think it's a great idea and I'm excited to find out why. Good opportunity for a great story.

Now that was a shock! I love it!

I'm a little disappointed that they spoiled it but in all honesty I'm thrilled- my worst fear was that Twilight's identity would be an anticlimax . . . but ANGEL? This is anything but I can't wait to see how the last arcs play out and the fact that this has always been Joss's plan really gives me faith that it will be handled well and will all make sense in the end Thanks for posting the interview "cant" it was really informative

Having had time to process the information I thought I'd come back and share my opinion.
I had guessed that Angel might be Twilight...but seeing it (in big bold picture form) brings about a whole lot of questions. How and why are of course on top of the list, but personally I'm wondering what Joss was thinking? I'm sure he'll have some amazing explanation for why Angel would start a seemingly evil campaign (while wearing that ridiculous outfit) against Buffy, but will it be good enough to keep from ruining one of the most important characters in the Buffyverse? I guess time will tell. I for one plan to keep reading the comics to find out one way or another. Whether I keep reading after that will depend on how well Joss & company spins this.
P.S I'm still in shock that Dark Horse would release such a huge spoiler so soon before the issue comes out. That's just stupid.

This is, quite simply, the biggest development and greatest tragedy in the history of the Buffyverse.
I don't care what "twists" they think they have in store. Angel's hero story has ended in absolute failure. There's simply no way to spin Twilight as anything other than an evil mass murderer, and now no way to spin Angel as anything other than an evil mass murderer.
If they want to go that route, fine. But I'd better not hear anything about "redemption" for Angel, or anything about how this can end any way other than him as dust. There is no going back from this. I don't know that I'll ever be able to watch episodes of "Angel" again, knowing how it turns out.
If this cover indicates that Buffy still wants to be with him after all this, then let them be together. Let them be together in hell.

I agree, sadly.
I don´t even see the reason why Twilight needs to be Angel. It doesn´t add anything to the overall story or relationship between Buffy and Angel that hasn´t been explored since season 2.
And it´s very weird to watch Angel on DVD and knowing he becomes Twilight.
Dunno how to feel about that.

we know nothing about Twilight, nothing at all, so how can you call him a murderer? How do you know Angel in that mask isnt a mole right next to Riley. How do you know he has any power at all. I bet he isnt even the big bad. Im even starting to think he was sent in undercover by Giles or something anmd its just another thing he has kept from Buffy. But i havent seen Twilight do anything but stand around? He doesnt even seem bad, he was pushed by Amy and did nothing. i just know there is more to this! Cant wait...bring it Joss!

Hey Andrew, I'm almost nervous to say this because you seem really upset, but I actually asked Scott about Angel's redemption in the interview we just had with him. The short of it is that there's more to the story than meets the eye. If you're interested here it is: buffyfest.blogspot.com/2010/01/confirmed-angel-is-twilight.htmlI'm actually excited to see where this goes, but I can see why some are not. Thanks, Michelle

Calm down, Andrew, you're starting to sound like a crazy religious zealot with the judgement and the hellfire. We don't know the specifics of this. I think it's likely time travel will play it's part, as foreshadowed in "ToYL". Besides, we know Angel turns out evil because we saw it in AtF. According to Wes, it's inevitable. It's way too early to start getting upset about this because we don't know how it'll play out. I don´t even see the reason why Twilight needs to be Angel. It doesn´t add anything to the overall story or relationship between Buffy and Angel that hasn´t been explored since season 2. Um, how do you know? It's not even happened in the narrative yet, so it's a bit premature to say "it doesn't add anything". Ooh, I love how this has reignited my protectiveness of Season Eight. Ain't nobody be dissin' my Buffy! *clicks fingers*

Twilight sends his army to tibet, war arises and people dying. So where is the good part of people losing their lives?

I'm still going to sit and wait. I don't want to get any maddening opinions in my head before I hear what Joss, Brad, and Angel have to say. I've remained of the mindset that the Twilight reveal would not be as important as the events surrounding it, and given #30's final panel, I continue to believe that's true. Whatever happens now is just going to be damned exciting. And hey, Joss-penned issue next week! Can I get an excited Topher squeal?

@butters: Twilight sends his army to tibet, war arises and people dying. So where is the good part of people losing their lives? Twilight was in Tibet, we dont know that he sent them, he could have been taking orders from a higher power. So was Riley working for Buffy so why couldnt Angel be undercover working for someone else? Like i said, i would like for anyone to show me anytime Twilight has done anything to anyone, other then when he fought Buffy. And he said there that he only wanted to talk. Hes all talk which makes me think he isnt even the one running things.

Sounds like someone doesn´t accept that Angel=Twilight=Bad.
Even if you´re right, he lets people die by not doing anything against it and THIS is absolutely against the motto: Helping the helpless (maybe we have here a out-of-character-moment, if Angel is still ensouled).
and if Joss has let us down: Well, I think parts of season six can be considered a let down, if you want to call it this way, so he isn´t free of that possibility.

Now that we know Angel is Twilight, the most obvious reason to explain what he is doing is that he wants to avoid the events that are shown in After the Fall. We know that Angel is destined to pretty much end the world, so I can understand why he would want to end magic (most Apocalypses are rooted in magic, so why not cut them off at the source). Killing a few Slayers and becoming a mortal enemy with your soul mate is really a small price to pay when trying to prevent the world from ending. I guess I'm just saying all this because I don't think people can really justifiably say Angel as Twilight doesn't make any sense. The sense is there, we just have to see how it all plays out.
I am really worried about what this will ultimately do to Angel's character though. He's dabbled in "ends justify the means" before, with varying effects. Now that Wesley is dead, Angel is the character I am invested in the most. So please, Joss, make it all work out.

I start to believe, it all is a fake.
I listened to the audio file that michellebuffyfest posted above and when it comes to a question of how Idw and Dark horse are probably contradicting each other he starts stuttering. He doesn´t really know what to say and after some breath he says, he´s going to clear things up with Chris Ryall. Sounded like he made it up final second.
Besides, covers leaked online because of a mistake and haven´t been taking out of the world wide web? Doesn´t sound that convincing. And a mistake in multi-million dollar industry? Neither does that.
So, I´m not saying we won´t see Angel´s face talking, kissing, etc. But I start to doubt that it is actually Angel. Maybe a shapeshifter trying to influence Buffy by using this image.
