I'd rather a cover that wasn't used for a HC already be used (like Urru's #1). Alex Garner's #11 cover is still one of my favorite covers of any series I've read, but I don't know if it would be good as a complete collection cover.
So here's my pick: Urru's wraparound cover for #17.

I have a feeling it will be the cover of the Volume One HC.
I'd love to see a new cover, though. Like, maybe what Wyndam said, about the wrap around cover(s). I think that'd be a great choice.

I would certainly love to see that used, but like you said it probably isn't the most suitable pick for the complete collection. I'd rather Urru's #1 over the wraparound #17, personally.

It's kind of out there but I would hope that they might consider an original cover. But if not maybe the Last Angel in hell ones since that's primarily what's named in the solicitation, but the cover of the real gang and not the fakes.

Heh, Paul. I actually still dislike the fact that the story structure is all over the place. You can tell pieces were added after the fact. Like the way #23 sprung up because of the Aftermath Gunn cock-up. It's one thing if the non-chronological order is deliberate. But what's done with AtF isn't a la Memento. It's just cause things weren't actually thought out before the stories were told. The stories don't connect in any clear overarching sense. I'd agree that it makes sense to separate the Spike AtF series except that the development in Spike AtF is important for understanding AtF in regards to the spell in the basement and also Illyria's emotional develoment and vulnerability. All the stories don't fit together readily, but all are necessary to get the full picture of the story. It still irks me, but then I guess it doesn't irk people who are big comics reader fans in other fandoms. I just see it as symptomatic of the story-sprawl of IDW at the moment. I think it's just how comic books work, to be honest. I don't have much of a problem with it, because I'm used to following Marvel comics like Civil War, where stories span multiple titles and you kinda need to read all of them to get the full picture. For me, the structure of AtF is fine, with one exception; I think First Night should have been a spin-off rather than part of the main series. It stalls the momentum of the series, and feels like an awkward road block. Had it been separate like Spike, we would have had a tidier main series, and two enjoyable spin-offs. Spike's spin-off nature doesn't bother me at all. I actually think Season Eight should be following IDW's example. Had they split their story up a little ("No Future for You" and "Predators and Prey" should have been spin-offs), I think the main series would be leaner and more satisfying, and those stories would have got the attention they deserved. IDW go too far, they have too many titles and the main title is badly organised (#18 - 27 were a narrative mess). But spin-offs and tie-ins are common in the comic medium, and maybe Season Eight should embrace that instead of clinging desperately (and futilely) to the television "season" structure. On the other hand, Joss believes a series should be self-contained. This is his quote from Buffy Magazine #93: As far as a separate story goes, we will resolve how [S8 and AtF] can both be going on. It might end up a little too much like the X-Men, who are always doing different things in every comic, but hopefully we will work out more continuity than that. I'm not going to make it like you have to read books from both companies. I don't think it's fair to people and I don't think it's fair in a single company. I hate it when they finish a Spider-Man arc in Iron Man. I get pissed off! There will be no Buffy Civil War! Well, maybe. I disagree with him; his Astonishing X-Men run was self-contained and it didn't work. It came off feeling non-canon because it didn't mesh with the rest of the universe. Some people believe AtF and S8 take place in separate universes because of the lack of continuity. Writers shouldn't be afraid to let their stories branch out into other books. Btw, how interesting is that Joss quote in light of the recent Twilight revelation? Buffy Civil War? Oh my god! ;D I personally appreciate that Season 8 is self contained and is trying to maintain a televised format. While I agree that "No Future for You" would have worked better as a Faith spin-off, I still prefer Season 8's format over IDW's Angel series, which is a complete mess.

Me too! Surely you have some say in that Brian! The story isnt complete without Spike's After the Fall Adventure IMO

I hope we get new coverart and some new extras. Would be weird if IDW didn't see to that. Just adding a couple of interviews would be a great way to get these sold.

I really really hope the complete ATF has the SPIKE series too. I think Chris mentioned on the IDW board that Spike:AtF would not be in this collection...but that Asylum,Shadow Puppets and AtF would be getting their own "Lynch's Spike" HC...or at least he hinted at that.

Ahh I remember back in the day asking whether Lynch's Spike stories would ever get Hardcovers, pretty sweet if that happens.
I don't think Spike ATF should be included in the complete collection to be honest. It adds to the story but only really from Spike's perspective (obviously). It should remain a Spike title and a companion piece.

If I had it my way, this would have: - Angel: After the Fall (1-17) - Spike: After the Fall (1-4) - Become What You Are (23) I just feel the After the Fall story isn't completed without all of those issues. Drusilla 24-25 doesn't really add anything to the overall story, it's just kinda a bonus. (And it still confuses me! xD) Odds are all those issues won't be in this HC, but it'd be nice!

First posted updated with cover and solicitation (this is out in February). Thanks Skytte for the heads up.
It looks like if this sells well we could get a second oversized HC. My guess is that would include the rest of Brian's Angel issues (#23-27 + Annual) and Spike: After the Fall. Wouldn't be as big as this Vol. 1, ~11 issues as opposed to 17, but still meaty nonetheless!
Who knows though, they could be planning on re-releasing the entire series.
