www.aintitcool.com/node/43672Joss Whedon Considering A Jump To Cable’s FX?? I am – Hercules!! Joss Whedon will be meeting in the next few weeks with FX president John Landgraf, presumably to talk about the possibility of mounting Whedon’s first show for cable. “I have enormous respect for him,” Landgraf told reporters at Sunday’s FX TCA event. FX might prove a good fit for a show from the acclaimed writer-producer-director, Oscar-nominated for his work on Pixar’s animated blockbuster “Toy Story” and Emmy-nominated for his work on The WB’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” Whedon also won an Emmy last autumn for his Internet sensation “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.” Whedon’s current series, Fox’s “Dollhouse,” airs its final episode a week from Friday. His upcoming MGM thriller, “The Cabin in the Woods,” wrapped principal photography last May and hits cinemas early next year. Whedon’s other TV credits include “Angel” and “Firefly.” His follow-ups to “Toy Story” include big-screen thrillers “Speed” and “Alien Resurrection,” and he made his feature directorial debut in 2005 with Universal’s “Serenity.” Find all of tvbythenumbers.com’s story on the matter here. tvbythenumbers.com/2010/01/17/could-conan-and-joss-whedon-come-to-fx/39195

I've been hoping for a long time he'd move to cable.
FX is owned by Fox, which means he'd be able to do Buffy-related stuff there if he wanted to... like that "Ripper" miniseries.

This is already being discussed in the "What's next, Joss?" thread, page 3. It is exciting news, of course, but still only rumors for now until the meeting actually takes place.

OMG, I'm trying not to get my hopes very high, but I'm also dreaming about this since they cancelled Firefly. Whedon is just too sophisticated and daring for network television.
Since FX is in the Fox-family, would it be any possibility for him to have some Dollhouse or Firefly-related stuff there? Buffy and Angel is well served in comics, but Firefly and Dollhouse both died a lot sooner than they should. Maybe some specials or tv movies... Well, I guess another Firefly or Dollhouse series is unlikely, and would be just too good to be true. Would prove that God exists after all. (do you hear me, God? Big chance! Jump on it, c'mon, please!)

Is Joss' contract with Fox over with the cancellation of Dollhouse? Could this FX thing be a way for him to work under the Fox contract but not actually for Fox network? Anyone knows something about it?

It wasn't Joss's contract to begin with, it was Eliza's.
That's the part I'm really more curious about. Joss is still free to do whatever he wants, but Eliza signed a five-year contract with FOX to produce a TV show.

Though I knew it before, the irony of the five year contract just hit me now.......ha.

Though I knew it before, the irony of the five year contract just hit me now.......ha. Not entirely ironic. Joss always said one of the metaphors of Dollhouse was to Hollywood, and the idea did come about as a result of talking with Eliza about the different parts she could play. "Ah-ha! You can be anybody! That's the show!" I really do hope Eliza continues to get good work, she's a solid actress.

Wow, i dunno if this will be a good thing or a bad thing. Shows on cable have lasted for ages, I just hope that if Joss does make the switch that it won't be short lived, series and all.

I'd love to see a Joss show on FX, cable, or otherwise. Showtime would be cool too!

IMO, five things I think could come of this in order of how likely I think it is:
1.) Dr. Horrible sequel (TV movie or mini series) 2.) Serenity sequel (TV movie or mini series) 3.) Something new (TV series, movie or mini series) 4.) Spike movie 5.) Ripper

A completely original idea so that it doesn't look like he's falling back on his successful franchises to make money (*coughcoughGEORGELUCAScoughcough*)
