So, for my class, I've been thinking about doing my other report on online fandoms, specifically the Buffy/Angel one. Cool, eh? I was inspired to do this because I am constantly amazed by the devotion, activity, and magnitude of the Buffy/Angel fandom. For a show that's been off the air for 5 years, the fact that the fandom is going so strong is incredible to me. For me, Buffy/Angel is the only fandom I've never been so heavily involved and invested in. It's an amazing thing. I wasn't even really a big 'internet' person until I got into Buffy about 4 years ago. Buffy/Angel (and other Joss projects) has definitely inspired me to be more engaged online.
I thought I might like to talk about why that is; in other words, what keeps people engaged in the fandom still?
Basically, it's just an idea, depending on how many people are interested in sharing their stories on their involvement in the fandom.
I'd like to start with asking you all some questions:
1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?
2. What is your involvement in the fandom? a.) For instance, do you prefer to mostly narrow it down to watching the shows at home and chatting on forums like this with other fans? b.) Or, do you make fan art, write fan fiction, or run a Buffy/Angel-themed site or blog? c.) In terms of forums, do you stick to one or do you belong to many? If so, which ones? How often do you post?
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!
6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?
and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?
Please feel free to answer any/all questions that apply to you
Thanks so much, amigos!

I wasn't even really a big 'internet' person until I got into Buffy Neither was I. Anyway since this seems like a topic that requires alot of views/responses would you mind if I made it an announcement? That way it will appear on all boards. I'll get to your questionnaire when I get back home later today.

I wasn't even really a big 'internet' person until I got into Buffy Neither was I. Same here! Then there was SlayAlive, and death of social life, and yeah. 1. Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?I think I'm relatively hardcore. Not as much as I could be, but I've seen all the Buffy episodes multiple times, the characters are practically real to me, and I've scared more than one person away with my obsessiveness. 2. What is your involvement in the fandom?I post here at SlayAlive, and I enjoy drawing Whedonverse stuffs and occasionally attempting a fanfic. (Also, I do read quite a lot of Buffy fics, some that cannot be mentioned here ) 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? For sure! Almost all the Buffy comics (plus Fray!), a few Angel comics, and Buffy DVD's. I would most certainly have more things if I actually had money though, haha. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?2 years, give or take a few months. 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!I honestly don't know, it's a bit hard to time to narrow down involvement, but I'm gonna guesstimate 5 hours? 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?I did, before I moved! One of them introduced me to it, a few I met, and the other three I converted. Muahaha. 7. Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?I've met a few people offline and tons online as a result of mutual love, but no official groups. That's awesome, though, the fact that you have a meet up group!!

I was already a big internet person because I got into the Youtube community and was all up in that so joining this site was just an awesome way to spend my time. 1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?In my standards I am not that much of a hardcore fan. I've seen all the episodes, but I gauge it in terms of how much money you have invested into the franchise. I haven't invested in it much because I haven't had a lot of money and because I'm a teenager. 2. What is your involvement in the fandom?a.) I do watch episodes sometimes and talk about it on here. I have one other RL friend who I have deep conversations with about different Buffy topics but that's it. b.) I've written a few works of fanfiction for BtVS. They're very short pieces and I haven't finished my latest but that's it. I write them when I'm bored. I've also started making banners but that's only for here. c.) I tend to stick to the BtVS threads because that is my favorite series, but I've seen all of the Whedonverse so I don't limit myself too much from the other threads. 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?I have all of the Buffy Omnibus series and all of the Season 8 volumes so far. I would go get the Buffy comics myself, but I just consider it a waste of money because of the convenience of the Volumes. I've got one Amber Benson autograph and a OMWF Tara bust coming in the mail! I'm planing on expanding this collection too. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?I've been a fan since probably last year or farther back. I don't remember exactly when. 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!Everyday. So like 545,600 times a week. 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?I only know my best friend who has a real passion for the show. I've known her since second grade and she was the one who got me into BtVS and all that other stuff. 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?I really only engage in the fandom online. I don't have any RL groups around me. I've met friends who I've discovered that like the show, but no one who's a huge fan like me and you all on here.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? In terms of knowledge about the show and passion for it, yeah.
a.) For instance, do you prefer to mostly narrow it down to watching the shows at home and chatting on forums like this with other fans? That's mostly what I do. b.) Or, do you make fan art, write fan fiction, or run a Buffy/Angel-themed site or blog? No, but I look at other peoples art, vids and read a fic here or there. c.) In terms of forums, do you stick to one or do you belong to many? If so, which ones? How often do you post? I only really post on the slayalive boards nowadays, but I post every day.
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? I've got ATF and the first three season 8 volumes. I read the comics every month, but I'm reluctant to purchase the other TPBs incase by some miracle there's a Hardcover released. I've got some autographs, my Hallowhedon poster and an Essence of Willow statue. I've got a OMWF Willow bust and an Oz werewolf bust. Someday I'd love to get the Serenity replica but that is seriously out of my price range.
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? About 3 years.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest! I get on forums everyday, whenever I'm logged into the computer which is whenever I'm in the house. I watch fanvids and search for good on-going fanfic but that's about it really. I stopped drawing a few years before I got into the fandom, but if I hadn't I'd probably do some fanart. I gotta pick up a pencil again now. I'm gonna go with 5 hours a day at the moment, which is probably due to the lack of a job or schooling right now.
6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people? Just the one that I mention in Q7. Although my sister loves Buffy/Angel but she's not passionate about it, and wouldn't have the first clue about what a fandom is.
7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)? I had a friend who had watched Buffy and Angel and liked it so I would talk to him about it, but he wasn't really a fan, he was just a big geek. But another friend of ours was there when we had a conversation about it and said he wanted to watch Buffy so I HAD to give him my DVDs straight away. Ofcourse, he loved it. Then he lended Firefly and Serenity from me and Angel from a guy in our media class because I didn't have them at the time. Now he's pretty in love with the Whedonverse and whenever he sleeps over we always watch a Whedon show. We even went to our first convention together, and it was full of Whedon goodness.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?Definitely! I think a hardcore fan is anyone who (like me) has an incredible love and devotion to the show and anything pertaining to it. 2. What is your involvement in the fandom?Participating in online fan communities, making Buffy music videos, icons, and banners, reading and collecting the S8 comics and other Buffy novels, collecting Buffy merchandise: action figures, prop replicas, etc. I am an avid listener of any and all Buffy podcasts I can find (my newest obsession having to do with the show, thanks to my new IPhone ). I also enjoy attending cons where I have met several Buffy stars, as well as stars from other Whedonverse shows. In addition, I own multiple copies of the DVD sets and enjoy watching the show when time permits. So Yeah, I guess my involvement goes pretty far. 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?I have several action figures and accessories, the Scythe prop replica, Buffy cardboard stand up, multiple Buffy novels, all of the S8 comics and most of the TPBs (I am a little behind on collecting those), Buffy DVD sets, including the Chosen Collection, A Buffy blanket, all of the Buffy albums, the Buffy board game, the two Buffy video games, several autographed photos and pictures taken with the stars I have met at cons... 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?Since I was 15. I am 26 now, so, a while...lol. 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? Well, I try to log in here and post everyday, as well as listen to at least one Buffy podcast a day. 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?Well, there's my best friend since 9th grade who originally got me into the show in the first place. Although, I would say that while she loves the show, my love and obsession for the show far surpassed hers long ago. It is still something we bond over, though. And it is nice to have at least one person in my real life who I can talk about the show with. I will be forever grateful to my best bud for getting hooked on Buffy when we were 15. There is also my husband. He likes the show but doesn't love it like I do. He understands what it means to me, though, and so he tolerates and supports my Buffy obsession (and I love him for it). and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?I don't belong to any meet up groups, but I do attend cons around my area when I get the chance. I have made one really close online friendship through love of Buffy. And you could say that Buffy is what brought my best friend and I together all those years ago when we were just freshmen in high school (man I feel old!). Isn't it amazing how Buffy has the power to bring people together?

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?
Yes I do. Buffy is my life!
2. What is your involvement in the fandom?
I watch all the television shows of Buffy and Angel, and I read all of Buffy Season 8, the omnibuses, and some of the angel comics. I like to read posts of fans online, and browse fan-made creations (videos, art, fan fiction).
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?
I have each season of Buffy and Angel on DVD, I own all of Season 8 (thus far), the Buffy Omnibuses, the Buffy Chaos Bleeds Video Game, and I hope to get more memorabilia such as action figures or character busts.
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?
Since 2005. I left home for a summer, moved 1,000 miles away to work for my cousin's business, and bought Buffy the Vampire Slayer season one on DVD on a whim. When I came home from that summer, I owned seasons 1-5.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom?
On a good week, every day. On a bad week, six days a week. I read the SlayAlive forum more than I post, but I still read the comics, and watch an episode here and there in the week.
6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?
I have two friends who love Buffy. One just as crazy as me, the other is getting there. I met the first one in college. I guess her brother is a huge fan and lately she's been getting hooked on Buffy and Angel shows and comics. The other friend is just a Joss Fan. He loves Joss' other works like Firefly and Dollhouse. He's now just getting into the shows, and don't ask why, he also skipped ahead to season 8. he claims to have seen every episode before, but he never watched them seriously and in sequence.
7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?
I haven't attended any groups or conventions. Sadly, there was a place in own that played a few eps of Buffy a few nights a week and played the Buffy role playing card game. I didn't find out about the place until they shut down. I post on SlayAlive and hope that maybe I'll find others in my state/city that love Buffy.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? yes. and i think hardcore means gaining knowledge about things that aren't just plainly put there on the screen for you. learning about the cast, crew, sets, filming locations, watching episode with commentary. having a thirst for behind the scenes is hardcore, adn it's certainly what i have.
I watch the shows, watch all teh special features, including reading the scripts and listening to commentary. I am very active here on SlayAlive and i post every single day, unless there is something physically restraining me from reaching my computer, lol. I do make fan art. Well, graphics and stuff with photoshop, like banners, avatars, wallpapers, etc. I once did an essay titled "Why Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Awesome", adn i'm always trying to draw people into the show.
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? I buy adn read all the Buffy Season 8 comics, and all the seasons of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse. I also buy the Buffy calendar every year, and once the year is over i cut the pictures out and hang them on my wall.
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? four years. so yeah, i was a little late getting into it.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest! . yeesh....about 16, i would say. it varies if i'm in the middle of a fanfiction, or making something with Photoshop.
It's mostly online, because most of the people i know have never heard of these shows, but i do have a few RL friends who are also a bit into the fandom, adn i chat with them about it sometimes. But most of my activity is online, and i can say that i have made plenty of friends here!

Okay, nothing better to do, so I'll help out. 1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?Yeah, I do. I've never been as completely captivated by any show as with BtVS/AtS, or had my passion for them extend so far beyond the airing of the final episodes. When I can quote entire scenes almost word-for-word from memory, or drop insanely-obscure factoids like the fact Xander's car-loving girl from "The Zeppo" is the same actress as Cordy's handmaiden Marelda/Geraldo from Pylea, I think that qualifies as pretty hardcore. But I think that there are a lot of ways that that term can be constituted, so I won't even try to narrowly define it myself. 2. What is your involvement in the fandom? a.) For instance, do you prefer to mostly narrow it down to watching the shows at home and chatting on forums like this with other fans? For the most part, yes, that's about as far as I go with it. b.) Or, do you make fan art, write fan fiction, or run a Buffy/Angel-themed site or blog?I dabble in reading/writing fanfic a little, but that's about it. c.) In terms of forums, do you stick to one or do you belong to many? If so, which ones? How often do you post?Just here at SA, usually posting a few times a week (tho I was away for 3/4 months recently). 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?I've read a few of the novels, and gave the comics a good long try before finally giving up on them. As far as the stuff I own, I have all 12 seasons of the shows on DVD, and one of Wes's screen-worn shirts from AtS S5. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?Over 7 years, since late-'02. 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!I usually watch one ep of each show on most nights, since there are very few current shows on TV that I bother with. Call it 10-12 eps a week, total, at around 43 minutes per, plus a few minutes every day reading the forums here, and a few minutes doing other related stuff. So that's, what, 8-9 hours a week in total? 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people? I managed to turn my mom into a big fan not long after I had started watching the shows myself, and like me she's become a fan of all of Joss's other stuff, too. Didn't even bother trying to get my dad to watch either show, since he's strictly a sci-fi guy (aliens, spaceships, and especially time-travel) and can't be bothered with horror or fantasy. He did like "Firefly" and "Serenity" a lot, but gave up on "Dollhouse" partway thru the second episode. His loss. and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)? Strictly online. It's a tough thing to bring up in RL if you have no idea if the person's ever watched the show or not--especially when you're a guy, like me. I think people who've never seen it mostly assume it's a show for girls, since the title character is female. And if you've never seen it and understood its utter awesome-ness, I think there's the natural tendency to assume that any show named "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" has to be as dumb as it sounds. I know that was the case with me, and it took a long time before I finally gave in and tried it.

My decision to use the internet (and most of my PC use) is as a direct result of my interest in the whedonverse. Before that I used to like to garden. 1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?Yes, a hardcore fan IMO would have watched the show (BtVS etc) in it's entirety and be very familiar with characters and plot. They would spend time on a forum.blog. They would also very likely either create or be interested in/view artistic creations made by other fans. How often do you post?I'd say my involvement in the fandom is extensive. I rewatch the shows constantly. Sometimes with fellow fans that live locally. I create original paintings/sketches, digital wallpapers, banners and icons and fan videos. . I have my own site to showcase the Whedonverse creations and a livejournal. I attend signings and conventions where the guests are from the whedonverse. I am a member of a couple of (still active) forums I post about 2-3 times a week depending on how much time I have left from creating all the art & vids. I visit whedonesque.com at least once a day to catch up on news but tend to post on occassions only. 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?6" action figures, Sideshow figures, books, DVD's, comics, magazines, random merchandise like mouse mats, mugs, tins etc. I do not collect cards or expensive prop replicas though. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?Since S2 of BtVS airing in the UK (possibly 1999/2000) 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!
Too much possibly. over 4 hours daily. I'm lucky I work from home and can dip in and out of the internet when I like. 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?3 that I have met personally. Met on a BBC forum. We now attend Conventions together. I know other people who also are fans but not hardcore. a nd lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle)
No, only because there are none in the area - unless we make our own Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?See above. And yes.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? Yes- a hardcore fan is somebody who's seen every show and visits an online forum or something similar at least weekly. I tend to involve myself very fully in the fandom online and visit forums daily usually but (as of yet) I've not created any fanfic/art 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? The ongoing comics, all the crossover books and many of the other books and comics along with all the TV seasons 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? About 2 years 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest! About five hours 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people? They introduced me to it! But within a few months I'd become much more obsessed with Buffy than any of them, although they are still big fans and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) No but I'd love to if there were one Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)? I don't meet up with people i meet online (stranger danger and all that) and I've never met anybody in real life who loves Buffy like I do Hope that helped!

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?I would consider a hardcore fan to be someone who doesn't just simply watch a show, but they go that extra level by buying the DVDs, at least, and communicating or keeping up with the fandom in some way. And so I am a hardcore fan. 2. What is your involvement in the fandom? a.) For instance, do you prefer to mostly narrow it down to watching the shows at home and chatting on forums like this with other fans?I watch it heavily at home, obviously. I have various friends in RL who I talk to about some, or all, Whedon shows and then if I'm converting someone, which is most of the time , then I'll often watch it friends as well. Online, I come on here, I follow Whedonesque, Buffyfest and countless other Whedon blogs and Twitters as well. And then there are many fans that I talk to on social sites as well. b.) Or, do you make fan art, write fan fiction, or run a Buffy/Angel-themed site or blog? The most I do in terms of making or running anything, is the occasional random banner and my many tweets centered around the Whedonverse. c.) In terms of forums, do you stick to one or do you belong to many? If so, which ones? How often do you post?SlayAlive is the only forum I've ever been heavily active in. 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? All of the DVDs, obviously. I read the comics, but I don't have a lot of them in a hard copy of my own. Other than that, it's mostly little stuff. A Buffy themed diary, a few posters... 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?Since my friend got my to watch the show... 3 years ago. So yeah, three years. 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!Uhhhhrrr... Maybe a few hours a week. 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?Yes. My friends who have introduced me to, or I have introduced them to, the fandom. It's a little circle of life. Or something. and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?Sadly, no. But that's only for a lack of opportunities arising where I live. Whee, that was fun.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? I sure do! I've seen each episode more times than I can count. While counting sheep in bed one night recently, I calculated that I have probably spent at least 2 minutes per hour for the last 12 years watching Buffy. Cripes! I need me a life, stat! I keep expecting my love of the show to diminish or rewatches to become less enjoyable, but at the moment (largely due to new online element that Slayalive has provided) my engagement in the show seems to be higher than ever!
2. What is your involvement in the fandom? a.) For instance, do you prefer to mostly narrow it down to watching the shows at home and chatting on forums like this with other fans? I watch the shows at home regularly. Whenever I am put into a situation where I can introduce someone to the show I do so, and have successfully converted a half dozen people to this date. I chat on the forum when I can, but a lack of time is reducing my ability to do so at this moment. b.) Or, do you make fan art, write fan fiction, or run a Buffy/Angel-themed site or blog? My creative input to the fandom is limited to one short drabble for an SA Scribes competition a while back! I'd love to write more fiction than I do, but spend so much of my time writing academic work that I never feel the urge to type anything else in my free time! c.) In terms of forums, do you stick to one or do you belong to many? If so, which ones? How often do you post? It's just SA for me! 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? I have one Willow doll (from Doppelgangland), all of the S8 volumes, all the DVDs, several posters, a growing collection of non-fiction (essays about the show from pop culture or sociological pov), a few trading cards, the role-playing guides, stationery and my own personal favourite - a replica of Willow's fluffy yellow Mr. Smiley bag from S2 created by my sister!
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? I was hooked from the first airing of "Welcome to the Hellmouth" back in 1997. At 23 now, the show is still an important aspect of my life.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest! I probably spend an average of 5-6 hours a week watching the show, although sometimes this is a lot greater. I like to read Slayage in my free time and listen to podcasts (particularly love Buffycast). Aside from that, I only spend about half an hour a day on SA, which is less than it used to be over the summer, but time is so precious at the moment! 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people? Thankfully, there are two people in my life who love the show as much as I do! My sister watched it with me when it first aired, so we experienced all of the twists and turns together and bonding over it big time. One of my best friends is also an obsessive fan and we recently finished our first rewatch of the entire series together! and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) I would love to be a part of a real-life meet-up group but don't know of any around me. I'm a newcomer to Manchester, UK so if anyone knows of any, let me know! Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)? Whenever I meet people, I slyly try to assess whether they like the show by dropping some timely quotes into conversation, hoping that they'll recognise them. Mostly, I have my two RL Buffy nuts and SA to satisfy my Buffy connections.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?I don't think I'm a hardcore fan. I consider a hardcore fan as having a LOT of merchandise as well as in-depth information on the show. Now I know a lot of all of Joss's shows, but I always find that I don't know everything. I'm still learning new things everyday about his series, new and old. Also, not too much merchandise dept outside of the DVDs themselves (excluding single issue comics). 2. What is your involvement in the fandom?a.) For instance, do you prefer to mostly narrow it down to watching the shows at home and chatting on forums like this with other fans?I do that. I don't talk on that many Whedon related BBSs. However, in most of the other BBSs I go to, I'm usually part of a [Whedon show] thread. b.) Or, do you make fan art, write fan fiction, or run a Buffy/Angel-themed site or blog?I have done fanarts in the past, and I've tried to revolve past art assignments around something Joss themed in art school. I have some ideas for some further fan art, but I haven't drawn them yet. (long personal story). Fiction? I plea the 5th, but I'm sure if I was to look back on them I'd cringe with embarrassment XD. [/i]c.) In terms of forums, do you stick to one or do you belong to many? If so, which ones? How often do you post?[/i][/b] I'm part of StayAlive, Dollhouse Forums, and Whedonverse (ning). I post the most at StayAlive, while the others I tend to neglect *blushes* 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?Yes, and anything awesome that I can get my hand. I'm late to the game, so I have a few novels. I hope to finish my collection of the "Tales of the Slayers", and collect more good Buffy/Angel novels. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?Interested in the movie in 93, obsessed by 95, and began visiting Whedon-related sites in 1999 (parents didn't get internet till then) 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!*thinks* Oh god...I dunno. Probably everyday. I read the comics regularly, read fiction/book every couple of weeks for multiple days, watch Whedon movies every couple of weeks, and watch any movie or show that's within the 6 degrees of Whedon pretty much every day. I think my stats went up when I accidentally convinced my friend to watch Buffy with me when we're free on Fridays, rebought & watching Season 7 of Buffy, and writing...stuff XD. Does thinking or dreams count? *lol* 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?Passion? I don't think so. Thankfully all my current friends likes the shows, so they own a couple/all of seasons of a series. I do have one friend who regularly looks up Whedon type news, so that's as close as to my position as possible. I imagine if I was around someone who's passionate about Whedon's work, I'd feel inadequate b/c of the extent of my knowledge. 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle)*pouts* no. I want to be, but I dunno how that'd go. Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?Not really. As close as I can get is watching Buffy with a friend on Fridays we have off. I fear when we get to the last episode lol. It's nice to share something I love with others. By the presence of Jayne Cobb, I have met a friend! Lol I like saying that. I was at school and I had my Whedon related wallpaper up (naturally) of Jayne Cobb. A girl commented on how awesome Jayne was and we had a long conver about him & the series. I invited her to go see "Serenity" as I didn't have anyone to go with, and we've been friends ever since. Lol, it's hilarious to us that I know the exact date of when I started to regularly talk/hang out with each other. XD

1. Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? I definitely think I am. I am obsessed. I kind of figure that out when I started buying the comics. This coming from a person that has never read anything comic unless you count those strips in the newspaper.
2. What is your involvement in the fandom? I post here alot. Watch it alot. Read alot. Everything alot.
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? I have all the Buffy season 8 and Angel season 6 so far. All of the Buffy Omnibus and Angel Spotlight. Have both complete series on DVD. Plus some BTVS dailies on DVD of almost all of season 6 episode.
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? Since season 6 of Buffy.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest! If were being honest I'm on here probably an hour out of the whole day everyday unless my Internet is down. And if I'm not on here and life is not getting in the way I spend probably 30 minutes making art. So I'd say 9 hours week. Hmmm, So that's where all my time go.
6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?
Well I actually didn't realize it until a few months ago that I managed to convert my sister. Plus her best friend has been dying to see my BTVS DVD's and asking to borrow them every time he gets, but I'm very territorial when it comes to DVDs especially the Buffy ones. Their so fragile. Last year I actually met a guy who liked the show as much as I do and we were both shocked.
7. Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?
My involvement is pretty strictly online. Like I said the people I've met that like the show I can count on one hand. It's so much easier to find fans online though.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?I'm a pretty devoted fan. I'll explain why through the other Q's 2. What is your involvement in the fandom?I belong to a few forums, most of which aren't mainly Buffy based, but I joined to discuss in the Buffy/Angel threads. I have done a bit of fanart, but I don't have a lot of time for that. And of course, I watch the DVDs and discuss them online and such. 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?I own all of the DVDs of Angel and Buffy, I'm currently collecting the Buffy Season 8 comics and IDW's Angel, I own the Fray TPB, Tales of the Slayers, Tales of the Vampires, the comic art book, I own the OMWF soundtrack, I've downloaded the Exposition song from "Restless", and I own one of Jeanty's sketchbooks. Plus I've joined various forums just because of my love of Buffy. Oh, and I own an Angel poster, too. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?Well, I've watched since I was little, but I've only been a hugely devoted for the past couple of years. 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!I'm not sure. I'm always on the computer because of my major, and I pretty much come on forums like this whenever I procrastinate....hm...I'd say maybe about 10 hours? Yeah, I have no life lately. Not an interesting one, anyway. 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?I only know one person who's as obsessed as I am, but I know 8 other people who are fans. These are just friends I met and random unnotable times in my life. Also my mom, and a couple of parents of my friends. and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle)Nah. I don't have time. I totally would if I did though.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan?
I consider myself one, definitely. I think a hardcore fan of anything constitutes a person being obsessed with any and all things related to the verse that they love. Sure you can say you're a hardcore fan of anything, but a real test is how long you have been with it. I've been with the show for years, my love for the show hasn't decreased at all, actually has grown.
2. What is your involvement in the fandom?
I'm pretty involved with it. I am a moderator on several Whedonverse forums on the web, and I make custom action figures from the shows. I also watch the show quite frequently, also the extra features like commentary, etc.
I post here on this forum, also BTVSfigs, FanForum, etc.
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what?
I have all of the dvds, some of the books, the Buffy Season 8 comics, and I also collect custom made figures. I also have the Playstation 2 game, and lots of other merchandise.
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan?
Since I was 14. So for almost 9 years now. I saw episodes before that, but when I first got hooked it was when I first saw the episode Bargaining, then I fell in love with the show completely.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest!
Oh I really couldn't say, I spend a LOT of time on fan art. Every day I'm working on a custom figure from the show. So let's just say lots of hours each week.
6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people?
No, none of my friends or family share the passion that I have for the show.
and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)?
No, there's nothing like that around here. I have to go online if I want to talk about Buffy.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? I'm not sure if I consider myself a hardcore fan. I would definitely say I am somewhere in between average fan, and hardcore. I think a hardcore fan is someone who is extremely devoted and has a higher than average participation in the fandom. 2. What is your involvement in the fandom? My only regular participation is here on Slayalive. I also make graphics and read fan-fic, and enjoy talking to other people about Whedon-related work. 3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? I try to keep up with the Buffy and Angel comics, but sadly I am quite behind. In terms of Buffy stuff-- I have a Buffy calendar (from 1998. It's still intact.). I have a couple of non-fic Buffy books like Philosophy of BtVS, and Buffy Physics. I have a couple of Buffy prints. I have the Chosen collection, and the complete AtS boxset. 4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? Since Season 1 aired, so... that's about 13 or 14 years? 5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? I try to log on here regularly, at least once a week, but usually more often than that. I read fan-fic, make graphics, and have Whedon-related conversations with people. 6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people? I originally got into the show through my best friends, and they no longer watch, but they are aware of my love for the show. I know a few people who are passionate about the show however, and I would say their love for the show surpasses mine. I randomly made a very good friend at school because I was reading Physics of the Buffyverse and it turned out she was a huge fan who rewatches regularly. There are a few people where I work who keep up regularly with the comics. 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? Sadly I do not belong to any meet-up groups and I've never been to a con. Very sad! This is something I hope to change in the future.

1.) Do you consider yourself a 'hardcore' fan? If so, what in your opinion constitutes a 'hardcore' fan? yes, I would consider myself a hardcore fan....not sure how to classify it, but I've gathered a lot of extra merch for the series & have a decidedly nerdy knowledge of silly trivia.
2. What is your involvement in the fandom? Not huge, I post here, lurk Whedonesque for news....chat with the occasional fan online & talk about it with my brother, who I converted.
3. Do you collect/read Buffy/Angel stuff in RL? If so, what? All the DVD sets, all of season 8, anything Spike has showed up in (comics/novels/omnibi ect) a lot of the Buffy & Angel novels (hard to find!) all the Angel comics...working on tracking down the old games & now subscribed to both series' comic lines.
4. How long have you considered yourself a fan? 11 months. I kid you not...any and all extra money has gone on this for the last while.
5. About how much time per week would you say you engage in some aspect of the fandom? (Please include writing fan fic, discussing things on forums, and making fan art) BE Honest! not a big fan fic person, so mostly just forums & lurking on whedonesque....3 hours a week? (more if work is very slow) Unless this counts watching/reading stuff....
6. Do you know many people in RL who share your passion for the show? If so, where and how did you meet these people? Yes, my brother is a huge fan.
and lastly 7.) Do you belong to any RL groups that are Whedonverse-themed? (like the meet-up group I run here in Seattle) alas no, I live in a pretty small town....so not sure if there are many fans around here....epsecialy in my age range. Do you engage in the fandom with people in RL, or is your involvement strictly online? Have you met friends as a result of your mutual love for the show(s)? met some online friends, its mostly where I chat with people 'bout it.
