Sounds right. I'd definitely get rid of that one.

Yeah, Bring on the Night is when the S7 plot turns sour for me - good call!

i really can't think of an episode to delete.
although the only one i really didn't like and would maybe still keep the course of the show(if deleted) would be hells bells. i loved xander/anya and i really think their relationship could have still worked without the wedding.

If I had to delete a Buffy episode I'd probably choose Hell's Bells, because it was such a waste to split up Anya & Xander the way they did.
For Angel I'd definitely delete Tomorrow, I just hate that episode so much. It's entirely cheesy, I dread watching it whenever I get to it. Another one I never liked much was Waiting in the Wings, kinda pointless episode in my opinion, the only upside to that one is that Summer Glau was in it.

I like Seeing Red, even though I didn't much like what came after. And I hated the last few minutes of it because Tara died.
I'd probably delete Smashed and Wrecked and get them replaced with a magic storyline that's less heavy-handed in metaphor and has nothing to do with crack.
I agree on deleting Bring On The Night. It went so steeply downhill from there.

I wouldn't delete a single episode, even the worst have something redeeming. Just take Beer Bad - nearly two thirds of it are unwatchable to me (I just don't dig Buffy as Neanderthal woman and the Neanderthal guys), but there's this hilarious conversation between Willow and Parker, including one of my favourite Willow lines: "Just how gullible do you think I am", just when he thinks that she falls for his sh*t.

I would delete Beer Bad. I agree that there's some funniness in it, but not enough for me to want it to exist.

^^ I agree with Darth Rosenberg, each episode has its special moments. Take Dead Things for example. It has the awkward scene where Buffy is beating the crap out of Spike and it's really uncomfortable to watch. Conversely, it has that awesome scene between Buffy and Tara. So for that reason alone I am glad that it exists. And I don't get why fans are always so down on Beer Bad. Sure the cave guys were stupid, but it really does have some funny and entertaining moments.

"Beer Bad" is just so dull though. In fact, the writer, Tracey Forbes, is my least favourite writer by some way. She also did "Where the Wild Things Are", another trite 'message' episode and "Something Blue". I know I'll get a bit of hate for speaking ill of "Something Blue", but hear me out. I used to think it was one of the best episodes in S4 (my fav season) just because of the wacky hi-jinx that take place. My most recent rewatches have changed that opinion quite a lot. While I still like the Spuffy bits and some of the blind Giles moments, the set-up for the episode is sooo boring. Nothing happens at all for about 20 minutes until Willow does the spell. Before that we have the Scoobies impatient with Willow over the loss of Oz and some funny Spike hostage moments. Why are the Scoobies so down on Willow? It isn't like them at all and seems to exist solely for the purpose of fuelling this episode. Such character deviations are acceptable early on in a program where the characters aren't fully fleshed out yet, but by the fourth season, it's pretty poor writing to just throw in some uncharaceristic emotion to get a storyline going. One thing that unites all three episodes is the simplistic, plodding nature of the narrative. Character A feels emotion B due to events in previous episodes, leading them to do action C which has consequences D. There's just nothing organic or spontaneous about anything that happens, just a predicatable anagenesis of events which almost certainly leads to nothing significant for the rest of the series (pretty much the most important event which takes place in all three episodes is that Buffy gets over Parker). The conclusions are also dissatisfying: in "Beer Bad", we are told the beer will wear off and we never see any retribution for the bar-tender; in "Something Blue", D'Hoffryn simply allows Willow to leave (admittedly, this is pretty funny); in "Where the Wild Things Are", Xander and Anya open a door and everything is fine again. They open a door?! Is this house clean now? Are we all safe now? Surely, no-one would dream of having sex in a fraturnity house again, right? What kind of ending is that? Anyway, this has turned into a bit of a rant. Questions? Comments?

I think I'd delete "Inside Out" for the Angel series. Or whatever episode Cordelia had sex with Connor in. It was just SO WRONG! And also just completely annoying with the whole arc. I hated it really.

The only thing even remotely interesting about Tomorrow was the ending, but the rest of the first 30 minutes really sucked. I also have to agree that though I don't necessarily think it should be deleted Waiting in the Wings is definitely overrated.

What's the episode where Kennedy shows up? Hehe, I will go with that episode too, she is super annoying and a complete needless addition to the show. I agree with the Hells Bells thing, although I would have liked Xander and Anya to marry, I did enjoy the episode, so maybe watch it and then delete it and pretend it never happened? I also dislike the Spike/Buffy nastiness in Seeing Red, but do think that Tara dying was a good story (not that I don't like her, because I do) as it led to Willow going completely crazed, which was a good storyline. Also I would delete Into The Woods, as without that episode, Riley would never leave, and then I would get to look at him in every episode forever... (I do know that I am possibly the only Riley fan in the world, but that means there is more for me, yay!)

I agree about Hell's Bells. The ending was painful but I love the moment where Anya is reciting her vows. So maybe I will keep this episode around after all. I can just turn it off before it gets to the ending and pretend like they lived happy ever after.

But Xander and Anya were not meant to live happily ever after. I also thought that somehow Xander leaving her at the alter was some kind of not so cosmic payback for her actions as a vengeance demon. She was not supposed to be happy at that point of time - maybe never. So: Yay to Hell's Bells, it's the logical conclusion of an excellently portrayed development and fits the mythology.
Maybe I would delete Goodbye to Iowa. The episode is just plain boring to me. I think I fell asleep every time I tried to watch it.
Gumgnome, I also love season 4! Maybe it's even my favourite, I can't decide.

But Xander and Anya were not meant to live happily ever after. Maybe not, but a girl can dream. You bring up an excellent point that perhaps Anya was meant to be left at the alter as I kind of poetic justice for her actions as a vengeance demon. While I agree that your argument certainly has merit, I am of the mind that Anya had come a long way in terms of her humanity by that point in time and her relationship with Xander did not deserve such a tragic ending. Just my opinion.

And even if Anya had come a long way, I think there was still something "open", so to speak.
