By Season 5, I think she'd be pretty resistant to any attempts from the vampire to make her think that it was still her friend and would see it as her duty, not only as the Slayer but as their friend, to slay it immediately. ^^ I agree with you. It would be hard for her but in the end Buffy will always do what needs to be done, because it is her duty and out of respect for her friend and their memory.

I think she would just stake them, she was perfectly happy to kill vamp-Willow but Willow asked her not to. And in the first season she explained to Xander how you shouldn't see vampires as your dead friend, more as the demon that killed them.
