Yeah, I was hoping for an omnibus thingy too... A 4-issue book sounds rather slim to me...

OP updated with cover and solicitation for #2.
ETA: I'm kinda in love with the cover art so far. More so than I am with the interiors, which granted, has been a whopping one page so far.

Yeah these covers are looking very beautiful. The story tidbits in the new solicit sound a lot of fun.

Yeah these covers are looking very beautiful. The story tidbits in the new solicit sound a lot of fun. My only criticism of the plot spoilers we've gotten so far... it really doesn't sound that new to me. It just seems like a rehash of what's happened in the films so far, especially the bits about starting a new park... Why on earth would anyone do that? Especially someone who lived through the ordeal of nearly becoming T-Rex chum. But I guess it does make the point that humans never learn from their mistakes... we're doomed to repeat the mistakes of old, just in grander fashion. Afterall, it's the scope of the screw-up that matters... Oh, and in regards to the cover by Adams for #2... Trikes are big, but not that big... just saying. Unless they're being bred to be bigger and dumber or something...

Yet another cover posted by Chris Ryall. This time, for #3. Check out the very cool looking Dimetrodon!

I really love the B&W cover for #4, they are really delivering the goods with this series. I hope the first issue is out early in June. I'm excited.

Found a video that previews the first book amongst many other IDW books coming out soon.
Gotta say... NOT at all happy with what the art looks like. Very crude looking, and god, what is it with IDW and hiring bad colorists these days? There hasn't been a decent color job in ages. I think the Dru two-parter was the last decently colored book from their stable, for me. It's a big franchise license, people... treat it with a little respect. Sheesh!

#1 comes out today! Preview pages have been posted to the original post. Quite disappointed with the art... I was hoping that they would either go very stylized, or perhaps very sketch-like, like Ricardo Delgado's work on Age of Reptiles. For a preview of Delgado's work, click HERE.

So, did anyone else read this? Plotwise... it's got some interesting elements. Though, I think they're confusing Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar... not a good sign there. The mysterious guy in the shadow sounds like someone with a vendetta, which never bodes well for the unsuspecting. And hey, Dr. Wu's back! Which confirms that the series follows the continuity set by the movies, not the books, since Wu was eviscerated by raptors in the book. I guess the age rank of Tim and Lex and the references to the movies confirm that too.
Art wise... it's crap. Utter crap. Everything is just unimaginative and flat. The dinosaurs look like something a 10-year old (me, 15 years ago) drew. There is no sense of majesty, of "WOW, dinosaurs!" which was what the movies did so well. But the rearing facilities, the labs, all that stuff... it's like there was no effort to actually research what those kind of things could look like. Just gah! Bad bad bad. I'm going to finish this round, but I'm really hoping that the artist they hire for the next arc is much better.

I still haven't read the first issue yet. I haven't even been to the comic store since around May.

Well, apparently they're going through with another arc. Chris Ryall just announced at SDCC that there'll be a new 3-part miniseries with John Byrne in early 2011.

So, #5 came out last week, and I read it coz it's on my pull-list. My verdict on the entire miniseries as a whole? This is complete and utter tosh. It's really that bad.
Let's start with the art. It's so bad, reading a transcript might be more palatable. As I said before, the dinosaurs are horribly rendered. There is no "wow" factor at all. The characters are hardly distinguishable from one another, but thankfully, since the story was so bad anyway, I didn't really care if I was reading Lex, or some other woman.
The writing... I'm kinda appalled by the poor writing, given that the writer is a pretty big name. But there was no sense of pacing at all. Characters were largely lifeless and it really seemed like the whole build-up was just to introduce the mystery benefactor. Once that mystery was solved, everything just kinda went to hell. This last issue was particularly offensive. The one-page epilogue was the most abrupt thing I've ever seen, and the transition into the denouement was non-existent.
I really wanted to like these books, but I just couldn't. "Disappointed" doesn't even begin to cover how I feel about them.
