I really, really doubt this movie will fall through like Wonder Woman considering all the work that Marvel has set up in all the other movies, but I don't think they'll pick Joss to direct.

^ I agree actually. I don't think they would pick Joss to direct at all. Maybe (a strong maybe), they'll get him to do some writing...

Joss hasn't shown a great deal of potential as a director and just a director. I'd rather see him write + direct something really.

There was also a rumor that he might direct the Runaways (comic, not band) movie, but they have now confirmed a different director.
I see what you are saying henz...Joss has only directed one feature film and it was a movie that he wrote about characters that he had been invested in for a few years. I'm sure he'd do a fine job, but I wonder how "Jossy" it would really be. His "Office" episodes were really good, but they were no different than any other ep of the show really.
Well, I'm checking this movie out regardless when it drops...

The Avengers is going to be a big movie. Big and ambitious. I wonder if Joss is even up for that. I'd rather him direct Runaways, or something original that he writes (or collaborates with his various teams of awesomeness). But like jellymoff, I'm excited for this movie regardless of who directs it.

I wouldn't normally be that interested in this, but if Joss is involved, I could be persuaded...

It's official! (Well, more or less) Incredible news! I wasn't expecting this to actually happen! I still think The Avengers is one of the most ambitious comic book movies in the pipeline, and if anyone can pull it off, I'm glad Marvel went with the best man for the job. Congrats to Joss and bring on 2012!

Is it official, official? I'm totally psyched, but I don't want this to turn out... depressing.

Oh man. Hope we get an actual confirmation ASAP. This is just too amazing! If only he was writing it too... but whatever.
Hope it doesn't turn out to be another Wonder Woman. Blegh.

*hands HH a roll of paper towels* Just dispose of them correctly when you're done sopping up the mess.
On a less saucy (wow, slay myself much...) note, I guess this is why "Joss Whedon" is trending right now on Twitter. After all these weeks of Justin Bieber, I finally see a "J" name that is worthy of trending.

Hahaha...you all thought I was crazy for posting this.
I'm so happy that Joss has landed such a high profile gig, but I'm also a little terrified of what it all means. This is a huge undertaking and I can imagine he'll have a lot of pressure on him to get the movie right.

Anyway, great news. I really hope this all works out, because I'm sure the movie will be great if he directs it. The Avengers is bound to be successful, regardless of whether Joss is involved or not, so him being involved and the quality that comes with it will hopefully make the studios have more faith in the big JW. Perhaps we'll even see Goners get made or, even better, that long rumored Serenity sequel.

i can't wait! from reading joss' astonishing x-men, i believe he can pull off a group picture like this. i only wish he would/could have been considered for the x-men films. boy, did two of those three films suck?

If this works out, I feel Whedon won't be involved with Buffy season 9 comics much at all. The Avengers movie would be a huge undertaking and need full attention I would think.

Two? Which two are you talking about? The first = Good. The second = Amazing. The third = Bad. If this works out, I feel Whedon won't be involved with Buffy season 9 comics much at all. The Avengers movie would be a huge undertaking and need full attention I would think. I don't think this is necessarily true. Joss did Dollhouse and Season Eight at the same time. Besides, the filming of a film usually takes only a few months. Of course, as director, he'll also be involved in pre- and post-production, but remember that there is going to be a six month break in between Season Eight and Nine.
