Overall I thought it was a good episode. At first it sort of seemed boring and confusing. I was scared that it wouldnt pick up, but around the middle it did. I really liked Claire/Whiskeys story it just seemed a little rushed... but thats prolly because of Amy's engagements in RL...
Overall good though and the 2.02 looks awesome sooo yeah i'll deff keep watching

(Can you imagine if the Dollhouse people were thumbing through an archive of cartridges and went past one labelled "Winifred Burkle"? I know Joss would never do something like that, but it'd be worth it just to see the fan reaction...) If only it were that easy. Angel would have killed for a solution that easy.

Just watched, and I've been trying to avoid reading spoilers so here's what I think.... my post is kind of spoiler-y so... I think Adelle purposely put Echo in danger to force Ballard to become Echo's handler. Firstly, if Echo is as important to the Dollhouse as Adelle makes her out to be, they wouldn't assign her a sub-par handler who misreads a "pain" spike as an "excitement" spike. I think Adelle banked on Ballard stepping up and she's pulling the strings here and she's the one who's orchestrating the plan to bring the house down.
Other random observations...
"Tempura Joe" - ha! Roma/Echo face to desk-- cringe.
The bit between Ivy and Sierra was also rather thought provoking.
I can't wait to see how Alexis Denisof fits in to the story, and I do hope November returns as well.
Whiskey/Saunders... can I say... wow. Amy Acker is so stellar. I wonder how this is going to play out. The one question that keeps pestering me is how do the upper level people feel about an "aware" doll walking around? She's Dr. Saunders but she's still Whiskey. Doesn't this threaten the very foundation of the Dollhouse? But Echo is pretty self-aware as well.... I think Topher is Whiskey's brother. I've felt that way since before Dragon*Con, but Dr. Saunders kind of foreshadowed some more in this episode. I concur... because... Topher says he didn't make Saunders hate him, but he did design her to hate the smell of him... hmm... I think you're on to something there.

I liked this ep. Thought it was a great season starter, but I really really hate Echo and Paul together in any way. Bah.

Agreed, Paul and Echo seem creepy together to me though, he's aiming trying to hang onto someone who isn't fully there all the time. Plus he annoys me generally. I thought that Dr. Saunders is starting to crack, obviously its understandable, seeing as she/he is an imprint. It was an ok season opener, the storyline was a bit weird and even 'sick' was mentioned by a character. He annoys me all the time. Worst Joss character ever. Dull dull dull. And yeah, it's like he knows nothing about Caroline, it's like he went 'oh she's pretty I must save her I love her'. Lame.

With exactly the same flip to it which is that under the guise of saving someone else they were/are trying to save themselves. as for 'Caroline' - are we 100% sure she is the 'real' identity in Echo???

as for 'Caroline' - are we 100% sure she is the 'real' identity in Echo??? I do think Caroline is the real identity in Echo, in terms of her memory belonging to that specific body. Interesting that I just read this comment after making a thread concerning the issue. However, I do see Echo, after breaking out from the conditioning parameters Topher set in place, becoming just as real as Caroline herself. It is just a question of what will eventually happen to her (Echo) since as seen in Epitaph One, eventually Caroline will (supposedly) have complete ownership of her body.

With exactly the same flip to it which is that under the guise of saving someone else they were/are trying to save themselves. With Angel, Joss made it work though. It made sense. Plus, Buffy was a real person, totally aware of Angel. Caroline doesn't exist right now. (Kinda) Count me in on the Paul hate. Just a horribly written character. I liked who he was and what he stood for in the first few episodes, but once he encountered Echo and found out the Dollhouse was real, he did a complete 180. Really, he is no better than Alpha in terms of obsession. I was actually hoping he would be redeemed in Vows, we know he totally despises the Dollhouse and everything it stands for. But in Vows we find out he has been a client for what seemed like months, using Echo to his advantage. Oh Paul, you are such a nobel prince. I know he has fans, but I think Tahmoh Penikett is Grade A awful, so much that it's distracting at times. He is so wooden and just awkward at everything he does. He can't even hold a gun right. I'm also convinced he doesn't have muscles in his face to make expressions, except his lips when he makes that "I'm hungry for sex" look whenever he kisses someone. Sorry. Got ranty there.

I so agree with you. And at least with Buffy and Angel they actually met. Ballard was crazy obsessed with her because of a picture!

Angel fell in love with a girl from a view from a blacked out car... not greatly more romantic.
I like Ballard. He's trying to be good, but no-one's got totally pure motives in this show, which is why it's awesome.
So glad this show is back. Things are getting complicated very fast. I wasn't sure how this season would fair after I saw Epitaph 1, but it makes everything more tense knowing things that may come to be. I found it especially haunting with Topher ("I Know What I Know!") and poor Claire.
