As long as the content is original, I don't see why you can't use whatever you want.

Do we have to draw someone that's appeared in the comics? Or can it be a character, who has just appeared on the show?
I will enter, as I've been drawing a lot lately. I'm not expecting any winning for me though. xD

ANY Buffyverse character that's appeared on the show is fair game. It'll be interesting to see characters that were never translated to comic format in some submissions.

Sounds like an exciting contest. I've got some drawing skills, and while I'm confident that other artists here are far more skilled and will probably win, I'd still love to compete. Hmmm...we'll see what happens between now and July.

I'm trying to come up with ideas, and it would be good to know if we're allowed to have text (or maybe a plot, with several panels?).

Unless it's a sound effect (like those giant "CRAAAASH!!!!" ones), I'm going to say no to the text. The idea is to convey the concept with the art.

Wow what a wicked competition! Good luck everyone, wish I could enter but I couldn't come up with anything anywhere near good enough.

I'm happy that people are expressing an interest in the competition. I'm going to urge people to join anyway, regardless of skill. If there's enough interest, I'll be awarding 50 karma points just for participating. Thank you to those who have either sent in your submissions, or contacted me with points of clarification.

I'm trying to come up with ideas, and it would be good to know if we're allowed to have text (or maybe a plot, with several panels?). Gonna loosen my previous rule about text a bit. Sure, you can have text boxes or whatever, but keep the focus on the art. In other words, the text won't hurt you, but it won't really help you either, since it is an art contest. Fair enough?

i have a question! can we get inspired by other covers from different comics/media? Kinda like what they did for the variants of issues 35 and 36.

What exactly do you mean? I can clarify rules, but I can't discuss concepts. My rule on text is pretty clear, I think. You may have text if you feel that it's integral to your concept, but the focus should be on the character design, and capturing the essence of the character. E-mail me if you have any further questions. EDIT: Just received the prizes from Dark Horse today. They are nice. I'll post pictures of the books soon. The signed lithograph is very securely wrapped, and I don't want to open it, but if you'd like to know which one it is, it's Chen cover for #1, and it measures 19" by 23". Or 47.5 cm by 57.5 . cm
