Ok, part 2...other awesome things about this weekend including my experiences meeting Nick, Charisma, and Amber. Please do not ask me how much money I spent because I really don't want to think about it. It was worth it.
I woke up at 4:30 am because my friend who was driving told me that if we wanted to make sure to make the 8:30 train, we should leave at 5:30. This makes no sense because I live 2 hours away from Boston and it only takes 1 hour to get to the train station. We are just really familiar with the fact that we constantly get horribly horribly lost for hours, but the GPS decided to work and we ended up waiting from 7 to 8:30 for the train. It was extremely windy and cold and it was Saturday so the nice warm station with the hot chocolate was not open. We asked another woman waiting outside if it would be opening at all today and she was very nice and told us everything we needed to know and that we could just buy our tickets on the train. Then she gave us these religious pamphlets because she turned out to be a Jehovah witness. But she was actually nice about it, which was strange compared to some other Jehovah witnesses who came into my yard while I was doing yard work and tried to convert me for a half hour even though I repeatedly told them I wasn't interested. Anyways, we went back and waited in our car and read the pamphlets because we had nothing better to do, which was interesting because I enjoy learning about other peoples beliefs.
The train came and we got on and ended up in Boston without much of an idea of how to get to the Hynes. Luckily, my awesome new phone has the Google maps app. and we got there in about 10 minutes after stopping for hot chocolate.
We got to the building and saw this gigantic line, and I thought, "whoa, I had no idea it was going to be this big." But upon walking past the front of the line I noticed that they were all waiting for a rally for the governor of Massachusetts that President Obama was going to be speaking at. There was a side door right next to it labeled, "comic- con." We went right in after being told about 5 times to stay to the right, because most of the building was being used by the other convention. So we got our wristbands and went to try and find the James Marsters Q and A which was supposed to be at 11. It took us awhile because there no map of where things were in the program book (why?) so I looked around the exhibit hall and then had to ask a volunteer. So we found the long line to the room. We got there at 10:30 and waited the half hour only to be refused entry because the room was way too tiny to fit everyone. So we went back into the exhibit hall. I bought a Wolfram and Hart shirt, and my friend Christina bought a bunch of Japanese horror movies. The man selling her the DVDs gave her one for free, because he was not used to "hot chicks" buying the movies she bought.
we then walked over to the area where the Buffy actors were signing, and Christina bought an autograph ticket for Charisma Carpenter. I decided to buy one too, but the line was really long at that point, and the line for the James Marsters photo was already starting. I was more worried that his 20 minute time slot for photos to end then getting Charisma Carpenter autograph at that exact moment when I knew she would be there all day. So he came shortly after and the line moved really quickly. I got in, and he shook my hand and greeted me, then we posed, and then he shook my hand again and there were more quick pleasantries exchanged and then I walked out and asked when I would have my picture. The woman said that it would be ready in 15 minutes (lie), so I walked over to find Christina in the autograph line that wasn't moving at all.
I was in a fan girl daze at the time so I was all red spacey. All I said to her was, "he has really soft hands." Thinking back on it, that sounds extra creepy but it's also true.
Honestly I don't remember the order of what came next because at this point I was in a fan girl daze. But these did all happen.
I got in line for the Charisma Carpenter shoot. When I finally got to the front I kind of failed horribly. I went in and she greeted me and said she liked my Nine inch nails shirt. Then I ended up facing the wrong way and she ended up directing me.."oh, no turn around," At which point I let out a nervous "ahhh." the camera's over here, now up close... and smile... OK thank you" "thank you." My face looks so weird in that picture because I was just recovering from my fail as they took it.
Next, or maybe before, I am really blanking on the order here, I got in line for Amber Benson. I got a nice hug and she told me that she also liked my Nine inch nails shirt. Pleasantries were exchanged and I left.
I think this was 2 hours after the first picture I had taken and they had finally put it out on a table outside of the photo tent. At which point I stared at it and remarked on how awfully pale I look by comparison. Then Christina and I went to this place across the street called Samurai. It was the best sushi I have ever had.
We came back around 3 and got in line for the Charisma Carpenter panel. We were a lot closer than we were for the James Panel, so we thought we would get in... plus we waited for a little over an hour. But no, some VIP's came at the last minute and I was the first person to be shut out. Waiting in that line wasn't really terrible though because we got to see Chewbacca interact with the Obama rally security. They told us at the door that some people said they might be leaving the Charisma Q and A early so we should wait for 10 minutes. We did and then two people waiting for the political rally got confused and came over to the Charisma room and walked right in and stood at the door. So I stuck my head in after them and heard her talking about the episode, "your welcome." Then they realized that this was not the convention they had been in line for and went back into the other line... The tow lines were right next to each other. We stopped waiting after 20 minutes and I went and bought more things. I bought a bunny Anya figure, a gem of Amara, a blue sun shirt, and a mutant enemy shirt.
Then I looked and saw that my Charisma Carpenter and Amber Benson photos were ready yay!. At which point I realized that it was absolutely imperative that I get all of my pictures signed (goodbye money.) So I got an Amber Benson autograph pass, and a James Marsters Autograph pass. The line was a lot shorter at this point So I got in and talked to James Marsters as described in my previous post. Then I got Amber Benson to sign my picture. She said, "aww we look so cute in this picture."and then she wrote "we look cute."on it. Also she gave me another hug (!).
Then it was time for the Nick Brendon photo shoot. I waited in that line and then there was the traditional photo op greeting, and a,"get in closer." followed by an extremely strong side-hug photo. Also James Marsters was sitting in the corner waiting in case anyone hadn't gotten a dual-James- Nick photo that they paid for.
Then I went back and finally got Charisma Carpenter to sign my picture. I tried to ask if her hand was tired from signing all day but I don't think she heard me, so I got the usual smile, and nice words.
Then I decided once I got the picture back, I would definitely get a pass to have Nick Brendon sign his photo. Then I walked around and actually this was when we went and got sushi. Earlier in the day we went for Dunkin Donuts. Yeah the earlier trip was interesting because they were blasting music for the giant line for Obama, and there were tea partiers protesting. (ewww tea partiers, I took pictures of some of their ridiculously stupid signs.)
So then we went back and I tried to get my Nick Brendon picture but they weren't done yet because the printer is impossibly slow. So they only printed pictures for anyone who wasn't coming back Sunday, because the exhibit hall was closing down. They promised me that they would reprint the picture if I came in tomorrow and it wasn't there and they kept their word.
So I left and got in line for the James Marsters concert. All the VIPs got in to that same tiny room first so I was standing but I had a ticket specifically for that, so they could not refuse me He talked a lot, which for me, kind of made up for the fact that I hadn't gotten into his question and answer session. It was awesome! Christina took an ungodly amount of pictures. She I was surprised her camera had enough memory. Especially since she had spent a lot of the day standing away from the line, where you could still see all the Buffy cast just taking candid pictures of them, trying to get a perfect one. She ended up talking to Christopher Golden a lot because he was right at that end, and he bought and had one of his books signed. Mark Metcalf waved at her repeatedly, and she got Charisma Carpenter to wave once. Then a staff member came and told her to stop because she had been standing there was too long.
Anyways afterward we power-walked to the train station and made it with 6 minutes to spare. I left Boston at 9:30 and got home at 12. Then I pretty much passed out in my bed from lack of sleep. It was the best day ever. I shall write about Sunday later, because I'm tired of typing at the moment. But I definitely have more to say and pictures to get online.
Oh yeah, and Beaumonde, The panels were only guaranteed if you had VIP tickets, but it didn't make much sense to me why they put us in such a tiny room. Saturday, it might have been because the Obama rally was taking up most of the convention space, but they did it again on Sunday so it might have just been poor planning.
