Going through the preview again, it kinda struck me how tightly written these last few books are. In #37, we had the Master talking about how Buffy co-created a "soulless" universe that wasn't worthy of such power (i.e. the Seed). In this preview, we have Twilight incarnate (aka Evil!Kitty) telling Angel that he wants the Seed, because it's his soul. Totally loving the whole fast-paced mythology revamping stuff going on amidst the character moments. I still wonder if it's nothing but a manipulation.
Curiously, Kitty touches Angel's most sensitive spots: his daddy issues and soul issues. I wonder if it's because Kitty manipulates him into doing something he absolutely wouldn't do otherwise (go against Buffy f.ex.). In that case everything Kitty says can easily be a lie.

Agreed that everything that Evil!Kitty says could be a lie, but this far in, I've a feeling that the reason that we're getting so much information all at once is because we're at the point where everything that is going to be laid bare is being laid out. But the point is, Twilight wants the Seed for itself, calling it his soul. And the Master previously called the new dimension "soulless". I just think that it's kinda neat that all these things are kinda lining up.

It's evil!Joss who makes him face the most heartbreaking choice one could imagine. (I need a lot of fluffy happily-ever-after fics to make up for season 8. Thankfully, Joss has provided us with a super-McGuffin - the Seed that was there in the Hellmouth all the time, ready for use

Craziest dream ever this morning guys! I dreamt I was reading issue 38, and it was cra-zy. I even dreamt it with still panels just like the comic book; guess my mind is working overtime on trying to figure out the whole Twilight – Seed – Flaming Lion mystery, plus who dies and who’s the betrayer. Anyways, dream… (Granted some parts didn’t fit or were choppy but hey, it’s a dream…) So the Twi-Lion who was beating up Angel teleported the two of them to Sunnydale (I remember Angel was queasy because I’ve noticed a trend in teleporting and getting sick this season).
Anyways, Faith managed to get down there with the scythe and managed to get it to Buffy. Elsewhere, the Master was still protecting the seed with Willow helping him by doing spells to stop the hording demons from reaching it – Buffy with her long missed scythe started kicking some lion ass. The Lion begins to play word games with Buffy. The Lion explained that there was a reason he chose Angel versus Spike to be the one to gain Twilight… because if Spike had gained Twilight, Angel would be there to stop him with Buffy, dust Spike off for good… but if Angel got the power and Spike had to stop him, “jealousy / revenge” would be the element Spike would choose for Angel's punishment. For its “in the name of love” that Spike would find a way to stop Angel…
Buffy kind of understands what the Lion is saying and how the Lion predicted what only Spike would do (I know that sound confusing but follow me here, its not like S8 isn’t full of confusion anyways)…
Angel is still coming too when Spike finds him. Spike seemed distressed with Angel, for the whole Twilight-sex thing and the paradise Buffy and Angel were given… Spike exclaims how Buffy will always choose Angel in the end, regardless of how much hurt he caused or what he does, she will always choose the first vampire with a soul. Spike talks down to Angel about how he fought and earned his soul, and Angel was only burdened with his by a curse… Spike then reveals some magic contents he had on him and explains that he did his homework while Angel was away. There is only ONE solution to keep Buffy from ever being with or loving Angel again – Spike then does the spell to remove Angel’s soul, making him Angelus.
Angelus arises and (Spike not realizing Angelus still has Twilight’s superman strength) kicks Spike’s ass into the far off rubble with a smile and thanks before he flies off. Angel then heads towards the Lion and Buffy. The Lion tells Buffy that “father is finally home.” Buffy realizes what the Lion meant by his ramblings and what has happened to Angel.
Angelus finds Buffy and the two fight it out before Angelus beats her down leaving Buffy hurt, lying on the floor (image from issue # 10). Angel races for the seed but Willow blocks him, she begins to do the re-ensouling spell but Angelus manages to stop her and reaches the seed at last. Angelus looks down to tell Buffy (and company) that this is it… the end, Twilight, no more magic, and no more hope that Angel is ever coming back – he breaks the seed.
End of issue 38 – the “classified” cover with Buffy going to beat down a hidden opponent is revealed to be Angelus. I then woke up all concerned and awake! And realized its still a whole 15 more days till I find out what really happens in the real # 38…. We’ll see I guess!

Dreams are SO weird. The worst was when I dreamed about being in an arcade (which I'm NOT a gamer or arcade person, anyways) and I won this AWESOME Buffy figurine (it was like an expensive plastic figure that was so Sarah Michelle looking - it was SO fab) and I was SO excited... then I wake up. And I don't have it... nor does one even exist. Guess I could buy that Throne of the Slayers one but still...

The big question is, is "Twilight" something the Powers engineered deliberately, or is it something that they have no control over, that they're just trying to make the best of?
Twilion clearly has no concept of altruism, or concern (or even non-contempt) for anything other than itself. So I feel confident in asserting that Twilight is Evil.
But are the Powers cooperating with this evil, or even the source of it? I still keep thinking of how Whistler refers to himself as a demon of balance. "Balance" has been used in the Buffyverse in its Zen sense of peace and harmony. (Remember the Slushee-drinking demon in "That Old Gang of Mine?" Wesley said it was a balancing demon, and therefore harmless and peaceful).
But "balance" in the ethical sense means treating good and evil as equal forces that must be kept equal... so if evil seems to have the upper hand, balance means fighting for good. But if good takes the upper hand (say, by suddenly creating an army of superpowered heroes), then balance means fighting on the side of evil.
It may be that since she empowered the Slayer army and became an unbalancing force of good, the forces of balance... including Whistler, and possibly including the Powers... have become her enemies, and are promoting evil. I completely agree with your thoughts here. People always forget to think of the negative aspects of the concepts of karma and balance. Really keeping things balanced means that if things are going to well, something bad has to happen to level everything back out.

i've been thinking about it and I recall relating Angel's actions in my dream to something I read, so I poked my nose around the forum and I finally found the little inception that made me probably dream this up!

I'll never be the guy to lead the "We Love Faith" parade, but I really like the panel of her with the scythe in the preview.

I really don't think Dawn is dead on the cover. I don't think they would intentionally give up something that big so early on.

It's interesting that as we approach the climax of this 4+ year season, discussion of it has fallen off to virtually nothing.

AndrewCrossett - there are discussions on LJ, just today a fan posted a detailed review local-max.livejournal.com/10888.html#cutid1but I guess the situation is too confusing. Each new issue introduces new element of mythology. Twilight-the-dimension; Twilight-the-kitty; the Seed of Wonder; alive Master, the keeper of the seed. Each new issue rewrites the very basics of the verse. Besides, the moral standards are very confusing. I thought that Buffy having sex with Angel was horrible. A betrayal of all those dead girls killed by Angel's followers. But the editors were telling again and again how great and beautiful their sex was. So I wondered if it was my shipper bias that didn't let me celebrate the beauty of space-frak. I'm very curious about the tomorrow's issue - but I haven't the least idea what to expect.

Its not easy dealing with a 30 day commercial break in between every arc. I mean, most issues are 4 issues, usually, and that IMO would be 15 min's on screen. So the "cliffhangers" would be commercial breaks for the show... but now, 30 days, its killing us - seriously.
I'm excited that S9 will have multiple titles out in one month. A) It'll keep us interesting by giving us more to read, and B) it'll obviously give Dark Horse more profit to contribute to future Buffy projects.
As far as Season 8 is concerned, its been like no other season we've experience because its been 4 years running! And for Buffy, as we see in the duologue, its only been a few months in her time that Twilight has been around... but we have been riding this ship for years and I think some fans are a little drained (still excited to get the new issue but still drained).

I'll be working till 6 tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll be intimately familiar with the issue long before I get my copy.

They've gotten their mitts on both Dark Horse and IDW books before the release date before.
