How could you guys stand waiting so long to get all these books? Isn't it painful?

Well waiting for Buffy and the ongoing Angel comics are painful, but this isn't something I need to get right when it comes out. Just a flashback story.

Well, you're not waiting for this one, obviously, as it will be in the store this Wednesday when you go there. I was talking Angel: Aftermath and (to a lesser extent, as it's only been out for a week) Buffy #23.

Already have both, I meant when I get the NEXT issue of Aftermath, guess I wasn't clear enough. Or I was and your brain is just too small.

Seeing as you think "Wanted" is good, I think the former is more likely.

Fair enough.... only not really. Looking forward to your review of this, it'll probably decide if I want to spend the extra money or not.

Judging by what the preview was, expect to spend the extra money. It's the strongest preview we've seen that wasn't "After the Fall," methinks.

Anyone else get this? If not, it's a mighty shame, because this is a fantastic comic. Best we've seen since "After the Fall," and the best non-Lynch Angel book I've seen from IDW... which is saying a lot. The art, the non-glossy and thick pages, the story; so atmospheric, so wonderful. Review is up: buffyversecomics.blogspot.com/2009/03/best-history-lesson-ever.html

Great review! Looks like I'll be investing. The art sounds very cool.

yeah, i brought this today, i quite liked it. I wasnt a fan of the art and non-glossy pages at first, but a few pages in and i was in love with it. It just works. The lack of colour gives it a bit more of an atmospheric feel. Intriguing to see what they do with the Wyndam-Pryce presumed ancestor. But yeah, all in all i thought it was quite good all round .

This was just a pleasure to read. The story was okay, but it was just executed so beautifully. The lovely thick paper and the raw pencils, I felt like I was reading through Byrne's very own sketchbook. Aside from being interesting artistically, it also benefited the story as it helped create a very cold wintery atmosphere and give the story it's own unique tone. This is exactly how expanded universe stories should be handled. Even though it's not canon, it's creative and original enough that it feels like canon-level quality. It has a professionalism to it that Aftermath is sorely lacking. Hopefully IDW will do more quirky experimental titles like this.

Bought this today together with Angel Atf Vol. 3 and I gotta say I´m impressed. This is one story where I sure as hell don´t care if it´s canon or not - it´s one of the most enjoyable comics dealing with the Whedonverse that I´ve ever come across. It´s different, it´s creative and might even be a bit challenging on first read but WOW what a nice surprise. Get this!

I picked this up this week and absolutely loved it. Awesome art and script by John Byrne, and I love that there were only a few splashes of color. The different paper that was used was really cool as well. Really excited about this mini-series now.

Just read it and liked it. Nice to see a back-story for the War time period.
And.....Angel has his tatoo!! Very nicely drawn as well.
It was different reading a non-colour comic, but very nicely done.

Got it yesterday with Angel #19. Although they only had the black & white cover left
Very good though, and yes it's nice to see some artists have actually seen the show and remember Angel has a tattoo. Can we just make this series the followup to ATF and ignore the piss poor Aftermath?
