The art is phenomenal. The lack of colors reminds of of Sin City (which I love). I haven't read this issue yet because I'm trying to stretch everything out. But just by flipping through a couple pages, Blood & Trenches looks like a damn good read. I can't wait. I'm saving this for tomorrow during my study period. I'm so excited!

***SPOILERY*** I just read #1 today, I am a huge fan of pencil sketches, and this was damn fine artwork. The detail and motion were phenomenal, and the story is trippy. Vamps working for the Central powers, Geoffrey Wyndam-Price popping up, even the plucky British nurse all work together for a fresh Angel story. I'm excited for #2 in April

So I was trying to sleep but I kept staring at my desk, Blood & Trenches was staring right back. So I decided I would read it. Pencil sketches are awesome. Seriously, the art just blew me away. Its really weird having a Wyndam-Price as a bad guy. Well... he's not "bad", he's just ignorant to Angel's current state. I used to have the biggest crush on this girl named Margaret. Everything about this issue was great. I give it a 10/10.

I wasn't sure if this was the same John Byrne who drew Uncanny X-Men back in the day (somebody actually told me he was dead...) until I looked it up. His style's changed quite a bit over the years.

I wasn't sure about Blood & Trenches at first, I mean flashback stories can be tough to pull off, but I'm a believer now.
It really felt like Byrne had captured Angel's voice and I love how often times he let the art speak for itself. It's wasn't cluttered with a lot of needless dialogue...the book just flowed very well. I'm really looking forward to the other issues.

I cleaned up the first post quite a bit. Made sure the covers were all the same size and added the previews for issues 1 and 2 to their respective solicitations. Enjoy.

Issue 2, and just more awesomeness. Not sure about using colour for the little "bang!"s though Who is the big master vamp in the final panel? it kinda looks like a few different characters

So awesome that Byrne brought him back (or not really "back" considering this all takes place before Buffy Season 3). Check out his crazy hands, that plus the shape of his head and goatee, it is definitely Kakistos. Check out the 4th cover as well, Kakistos vs. Angel. I really enjoyed this issue too. The art was spectacular, especially during the vampire fights. Probably some of the coolest looking vamp dustings in a comic yet. Loving this mini-series so far.

It took me a few seconds to recognise the Big Bad but when I noticed the cloven hands I had a bit of a squee moment. I like Kakistos, and am really happy to see more of him. I actually mistook the Third for him in "Safe" (it's the scar) and I wish that had been the case because it would have made more sense. This issue was fun, but I still think the art is what makes this series. The story is perfectly solid, but imagine it drawn by Dave Ross and ask yourself if you'd still care...

Yeah, i think that's why i got confused. I read Buffy first and almost made the same mistake, seeing as i still don't get why "the Third" was so important. I hadn't had a proper look at the fourth cover yet, so minimized it just looked like miscellaneous badass vamp. I see it a bit more now though, although for some reason i also see a fair bit of The Master. But yeah, glad i left this till last, it saved an otherwise lacklustre week of comics for me i dont know why, but i always find angel pretending to be angelus kinda tense whichever medium its presented in.

I just got done reading Blood and Trenches 2 and I cannot wait until the third issue is released. Again, the art was amazing as were the plot and dialog. I hope to see more of John Bryne's work in the future, especially from the Buffyverse. The difference between this Wyndam-Pryce and Wesley is outstanding. They seem as if total opposites. Angel is such a smooth talker, no wonder why he gets all the ladies. Not that he indulges in his sexual appetite. Brooding will always bring down your sex life. Is it me or does this comic smell good? I wouldn't want to make a cologne with the smell but I can't stop sniffing. Seriously, its addicting.
