Nice interview. I love the Spike stuff at the end, as well as the picture.
(I do wish someone would bring up Brian's Spike series though.)

Scott totally has a crush. That's three T's, people! Good interview, but yeah, we need a little more talk about Spike. He's HOTTT too, isn't he, Scott? ...Scott?

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone get the feeling that that's the question that's being dodged? If nothing else, look at that second image in the Buffyfest interview. I'm taking that as the official word for now.

Pat brought it up in the Ryall Q&A at IDW, so hopefully we'll get some concrete info soon.

I'm kind of flabbergasted that there is half a page of comments after the Buffyverse interview, and Scott Allie just mentioned the ANGEL title as a word-I-can't-say-in' PART of Season Nine.
What? ...WHAT!?
Can this be any worse? Like, even a little tiny bit worse?

That's because S9 is merely a blanket term. Angel will have his own title under S9, from what it sounds like. Meaning that he will have his own book to grow in.

It shouldn't be called Buffy Season 9 then. I understand why it will be, for marketing purposes, but again, it alienates Angel and his series.
The more appropriate name would be something like Buffyverse Part 14 (8 BtVS Seasons, 5 from Angel), since this is sounding like it will be a mega super duper crossover event, with BtVS and AtS characters all interacting with each other.
Again, I understand why this is all being called Buffy Season 9, and that all of the upcoming Buffyverse series will be working towards the same story, but just the fact that AtS is more or less being absorbed into BtVS doesn't sit well with me at all. There's gotta be a better name for this.
Heck even just BUFFY AND ANGEL would work, or actually scratch that, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER AND ANGEL is better since shippers would go nuts. It needs a broader title that respects both series.

If nothing else, look at that second image in the Buffyfest interview. I'm taking that as the official word for now. The images are just Tara showing off her awesome skills and us being funny! We thought about asking Scott about the Spike book, but it's still in IDW's hands and we kinda know the speculative answer already. Brian is writing it for IDW right now and once Dark Horse gets the license, Spike will move over with Angel. It might be too early to get more specific than that.

Wyn, I'm with you on your point, but I'm not crazy over the titles you're suggesting. I think an intertwined BtVS/AtS logo and then a new title for the upcoming multiple series would work.

A combined logo would be pretty awesome. Couple that with an epic name, that respects both series and we're definitely sitting a lot prettier than "Buffy Season 9 with Angel hopping around."

I am wit Pat in being devastated by this-my initial feeling is that when Angel finishes at IDW...then my time in the Buffyverse is at an end.
And that makes me sadder than I can say.

Well, I'm not real sure what I think about this. One one hand, I don't think DH will give as much attention and care to the Angel series as IDW did. On the other, IDW hasn't done so great with the main Angel series in terms of storytelling, so maybe DH can turn that around. That said, I'm with Wyndam on the whole combining the series as Buffy and Angel, not just Buffy with guest appearance from Angel. Also, I want to see Angel, the guy we've watched in his own show, have his own story, not being Buffy's little lovestruck bitch
So, I'm for, unsure and against the move. Man, I'm so indecisive lol

Hey, I'm with you guys that "Season 9" as a name doesn't really work. Allie gets it as well. He said as much at ECCC, when he officially announced it. He said something along the lines of not being sure if it can be called "Buffy Season 9" because of its scope. This was that TFAW.com video that cut off at the worst possible moment, leading some fans to freak out that there wouldn't be a S9. So Dark Horse understands that "Season 9" is kinda a misnomer. However, as we don't have anything to go by at the moment, we're using it as a placeholder, instead of something unwieldy like "the BtVS and ANGEL franchise fusion". We don't know that Buffy Season 9 will be the official title. As I said, it's a placeholder title (for now). It could stick, or they could already have an awesome title lined up.

I feel very saddened by this news. It will take me a while to absorb it all, but at the moment I feel gutted for IDW.

LoL, he makes jokes about being antiSpike.... That's good or bad news though? Look, the guy gets a bad rep for being anti-Spike. Something which has never been proven. Just because the man thinks that Buffy/Angel are a better couple doesn't automatically make him anti-Spike. He may not ship Spuffy, but when was there a rule that you need to ship Spuffy in order to NOT hate Spike? The fact that he has a dry sense of humor about it speaks volumes about the grace that he handles accusations about being anti-Spike. And hey, at the end of the day, it's Joss' story. Allie is just the editor. Even if Allie hated Spike, it really doesn't matter.

While I feel sorry for IDW and their dedicated fans, I personally would rather see Angel under Joss's guidance, wherever it may be.
I'm glad it will be under the season 9 banner, since that means it's already accounted for in JW's workload.
I still do wonder how they'll keep the same sense of focus and urgency with such a scattershot format, though.
I wish the interview had asked whether the IDW Angel series will be accepted as canon, although I'm not sure Scott would have given a straight answer to that.
