Please don't engage each other in hostile conversation. A discussion of why you're pro/con #36 would be fine, but otherwise, just walk away.

The problem with Angel being on Buffy is that he's usually written as her bitch, nowhere near the champ that he usually is on his own show, imo. Nuts to you. I've found a pro-Bangel board, so I'm leaving SlayAlive. Thanks for making my stay so hospitable. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you annoy me and that's saying something, so in a way, I'm kinda glad. Xi, you can spank me later for this

I assumed slayalive was pro most ships, except for Warren/anyone and Connor/Cordelia.

The hostility ends now or we're going to have issues. Talk about the topic at hand or move on to something else.

I assumed slayalive was pro most ships, except for Warren/anyone and Connor/Cordelia. We're fine with people shipping. Aren't there specific threads for that? It only becomes a problem when the shipping gets disruptive. So no, we don't off people because of the fact that they ship... only when it starts to become unproductive.

Sweet. A challenger. Haven't had one of those in...well...ever. But damn, too late, you already left. Still, you know where to find me. It's called PM. So, have a shot and I'll make you cry. Also, don't be giving the mods a hard time. They're here, doing their jobs and they all pretty much well-loved around here. If you don't like it, then go somewhere else. Now that I've said that, I'm going to do what Wyndam said and move on. (Sorry about that, Wyn and Xi) The topic at hand here: Angel moving back to Dark Horse!I don't know much about Angel's time originally at Dark Horse, so I can't comment on that. I only know what I've heard. IDW cranked out some stories, which were great, then we got ATF, which imo, was spectactular. I really loved it. However, following ATF, it didn't get much better. Aftermath was terrible, but Drusilla, Epilogue and B&TT were pretty good. Willingham's run seemed promising at the start, but then fell in my eyes to a point where I don't even read the series anymore and have no interest in it. Perhaps, back at DH, Angel might have a better chance at a better storyline. However, that means Angel can pop on over to Buffy and he'll most likely be her grovelling lovestruck puppy when he's there. Plus, the Buffy line will get far more attention than the Angel line, which is pretty much why Angel went to IDW. So, on one hand, I'm glad for the move, because maybe now Angel will get better, but on the other, I'm apprehensive, cuz IDW looked after Angel. They may not put out great stories for him as of late, but look at what we're getting now And hey, a little upside to this? Maybe, just maybe, we'll finally get that Dawn/Connor interaction I've been waiting for

Donnor will never happen. Connor digs older women. But Faith isn't doing anything (god, that actually does sound dirty) at the moment, and we know that Connor was more than a little attracted to her... Though... kinda wanna see Satsu reject Connor's advances. ETA: Oh wait, you said Dawn/Connor interaction, not action. Well, then... that would be an amusing little chit chat.

Well as far as we know Buffy doesnt even know Conner exsists... Although Willow does, so does that mean we're to assume Buffy does as well?

Well, Buffy knew that Spike was alive, so we can assume that. And while I won't say no to some Dawn/Connor action, a chit chat between them would still be interesting. They have quite a lot in common

Joss kept popular characters around that he was originally going to kill off: Angel, Spike, Oz, Faith; he kept Tara around for a year longer than originally intended.
Also, Fox owns the character of Spike and probably wouldn’t be too happy with Joss if Joss killed him off.
Joss said that he got the writers together at the beginning and they pretty much worked out the story. So, I don’t see someone like Jane choosing to write a comic that bashes Spike, the Buffy/Spike relationship, etc. She could simply decide to not write the comic and someone else would have.
My quote: < But, if IDW knew that DH was going to be taking the license away, then it's more forgivable that they tried to milk the license as much as possible.> I was referring to all the off-shoots, that they put out comics of some Angel episodes, etc. DarkHorse pretty much only did what Joss wanted them to do. IDW had After the Fall but also tried to milk their having the license as much as they could.
I’m not referring to pre- After the Fall , pre-Season 8.
My quote: <Oh, as for Joss caring more about Buffy than Angel . Buffy is the bigger franchise and the character that he created.> If you’ve seen the Original Pilot, you’d know that it seemed Joss’s original idea had Buffy and Xander together.
David Greenwalt created the character of Angel and David Boreanaz was cast as the character because the casting director ‘discovered him’ and Gail Berman (of Sandollar) found him attractive and thought he’d be good for the role.
Shane
Also that IDW was saying that their comics should be considered “canon” and that “canon” was kinda a silly concept anyway.
If Joss says that all of the comics after After the Fall are canon, I and I assume a lot of others aren’t going to bother with Season 9. Joss would be saying that pretty much anything written by a comic publisher that has the license is canon even if he had no input or anyone that he wanted to write for the comic had no input.

To be completely honest, my relief at Angel returning to Dark Horse is more grounded in the fact that it means Bill Willingham won't be allowed near these characters anymore more than it is any preference for DH over IDW. That said, Lynch's titles were fantastic, the Drusilla two-parter was pretty brilliant, and Byrne's Lorne story was simply beautiful. So in that sense, I think the good outweighed the bad, but that doesn't change the fact that there were about fifteen months worth of disappointing stories from this publisher.
The 'Aftermath' arc was just painful to read, and even more painful to look at. Not only did the plot seem almost alien to this universe, but the art was reminiscent of the worst of generic 90's mainstream comic art, with anatomically offensive character designs and awful coloring. To follow up something as strong as 'After the Fall' with something so objectively mediocre seems inexcusable to me.
Willingham's run, on the other hand, isn't that bad on the surface. The art in many issues is fine, sometimes even great, but there are times where it undeniably suffers. Some of his plots even sucked me in for a while, but I felt like they lost steam pretty quickly, and never really recovered. But I think the place he dropped the ball completely was in characterisation. I don't think there was a single issue in which every character felt, acted or talked like the characters they're supposed to be. Whether it be in the inner monologues, the dialogue, or even just the little things the characters do, I never once felt that Willingham had a firm grasp on any of these characters. And when you're dealing with a franchise driven almost completely by its strong, (mostly) consistent characters, that's a pretty major problem.
Having said that, I don't think Willingham is a bad writer. Rather, I think he has issues writing for other people. Fables works fine because that's his universe, and when his somewhat unique voice comes through those characters, it feels OK because of that. Hell, half the people on Buffy and Angel talk like Buffy and we all love that. But when someone else's distinctive voice becomes apparent in a property where established characters already have distinctive voices, it's going to feel a little off. I think that's where Willingham's problems lie, and it's a problem I've seen when he's written for other characters that aren't his own.
And not to get too political, but it always made me uncomfortable that such an openly homophobic, anti-feminist, and possibly even racist (he's made some bizarre and questionable statements on the subject) writer was contributing to the Buffyverse. Thankfully that stuff doesn't bleed into his work very often, but it still concerns me a little.
