Part of a new interview with Eliza Dushku was published online, focusing on why she turned down the Faith spinoff! www.sfx.co.uk/2010/09/26/sfx-whedon-special-preview-the-faith-spin-off/Eliza Dushku reveals the truth behind the rumoured Faith spin-off show in the SFX Worlds Of Whedon special, out this Thursday: “After I finished the show, I’d withdrawn from school and followed up with a couple of films like Bring It On, but I’d had such an awesome experience working with Joss I was ready to go down that road again. So I met with Joss and Tim Minear and spoke about the potential for a Faith spin-off. But Buffy had just gone on seven years and Joss was really straightforward: he couldn’t play the kind of day-to-day role he had on Buffy – he had his family. I love Tim Minear, I trust him wholeheartedly and it wasn’t that I felt without Joss it wasn’t right, but it was a contributing factor. On top of it, I had just played this character for almost five years, it felt like time to explore a different role. So I ended up making a decision that, though looking back I don’t regret, in hindsight maybe the talks could have continued a bit longer. It’s a question I’ve been asked a gazillion times: ‘Why’d you do Tru Calling and not the Faith spin-off?’ Thing is, even Joss was part of helping me make that decision. He said: ‘I think you have to follow your gut, which is trying something different, and we’ll stay friends so this isn’t goodbye, this is until next time.’” I'm really glad we finally know why she went with Tru Calling over Faith the Vampire slayer, though I still wish a Faith show was possible. (Hope I posted this in the right place.)

She should still go for it. We'd support it.

I really wasn't a fan a tru calling, most of the characters seemed to lack personality.

I'd sure watch a Faith spinoff even now. And Joss seems to be a little less busy now, maybe he coould be more involved.

I really did like Tru Calling, but i would have 1,000% loved a Faith series im sure. I would have also loved to see some new characters Joss would bring to the table, and see a countinuing story for Faith.

I think I preferred Tru Calling over Faith. I never was such a Faith fan after all.

He's getting all prepped for The Avengers, and then he's gotta dive into filming, directing, ect. And he's also still trying to be involved in S8/9 at the same time.

I never saw Tru Calling but have heard it was pretty good. I would have loved a Faith spin-off even though she wasn't one of my favourite characters and would definitely still watch it if it was made now.

I would have absolutely adored a Faith spin-off. She's my favorite character because she's so complex and I felt like she always felt like she was so much more than just a guest star. I would have liked to see where it could have gone, but I understand her reasonings for not going forth with it.
We still got the awesome Joss/Eliza collaboration with Dollhouse, even if it was short lived.

With Buffy and Angel, I think a Faith spinoff would have been to much, plus I don't think she is a stong enough charactor to carry a whole show, she doesn't bond well with others so any additional cast would be short lived. You would grow to love other charactors and then they would leave. Plus there isn't much room for Faith to grow, she has already made leaps and bounds that any more growth and she wouldn't be the same Faith... So perhaps it is better that there isn't a show based on Faith.

That may have been true when her character was initially introduced, but not when she came back from Prison. I thought the scenes particularly in Angel with her working with Wesley were great. And we've gotten to see an extremely interesting dynamic between Faith and Giles play out in the comic. I think she could have easily had a good supporting cast. And while Faith did grow leaps and bounds, she still didn't fully grow. She's still needing to seek redemption and find her place in the world. Plus, Faith spin-off = awesome flashbacks filling in her past before Sunnydale.

I think Joss or Eliza mentioned that a Faith spin-off would include her and a motorcycle trying to find her place in the world. It was also mentioned that Faith would be hard to do because it's difficult to make an overarching plotline when the main character is constantly moving from one place to another.

As much as I love Faith (I really do, she's my favourite Whedonverse character), I'm actually kind of glad that they decided against a Faith spin-off. Why? Because a really great character can be ruined by a bad spin-off. The best example is Joey from Friends. That spin-off was terrible.
I think they got really lucky with Angel. They brought the same team over and crossed over enough characters that it worked. But with a Faith spin-off I'm guessing they would have introduced completely new characters, put her in a new setting and only had tiny guest spots. It would have probably turned the character into something different and I know I wouldn't have liked that.
Plus there's the added fact that I LOVED Tru Calling. Absolutely loved it. I was so devasted when they cancelled it.

I can also see how Eliza wouldn't want to end up type casted as Faith, This way she got to branch out and try many other rolls. Who doesn't love her in Tru Calling and Dollhouse.

I think towards the last leg of Dollhouse, Eliza's tweeted she was back in school and even showed a picture of one of her exams (An A! I remember that part, hehe) so good for her. I think while the fans, myself included would have loved a Faith spin-off, the quality of the show could have gone in either direction. Not doubting Tim Minear's abilities, but I think Joss and Eliza have a natural rapport. I'm glad she went on to do other things.
