Hmmm... grief that you need to squint at in order to see can be a sweet device, sure. Very useful in order to hint at deeper, more tender feelings a technical rival of the deceased might be secretly harbouring. For instance, I'm quite sure Angel mourned Spike's death at the Hellmouth off-screen. His official attitude after Spike was brought back was one of Mussolini-esque meltdowns and endless, tantrum-y vexation, but he betrayed himself almost at every step. His core feelings, which Angel is kind of hardwired into stomping on, kept showing through all of the jealousy and the spite. In such cases, squinty grief can become a form of foreshadowing. In cases like Anya's, though, there's no real reason to hide the survivors' grief... it was no secret Xander loved her, and the other scoobies thought of her as a friend. No-one's asking for the reprecussions of her death to arrest the story's progress, that wouldn't be necessary anyway. It only takes 12 verses to do a whole 'tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow', after all. Anya could have been served with at least three or four of those!

I really miss Anya too and would have loved to see something of her in season 8

I still have a suspicion Xander may do something shortly that's motivated by his repressed feelings of grief (and guilt) over the deaths of Anya and Renee and current events with Dawn.

That would make a great story, I hope it or something similar happens as her character shouldn't be left for ever.

Anya was killed by the Turok-Hans, right, under the leadership of The First? I don't see Xander going after that enemy. It's a "piss on a hornet's nest" kind of thing.
We might meet somebody that Anya punished in her vengeance demon days.
A thought. If the seed is destroyed ... the Slayers already called and the vampires already sired will still be there but no more? So vampires can't sire any more descendants? Maybe this is the wrong thread for that question. But what about all the other demons, including vengeance demons? And what about Sweet? I guess we're glossing over all that.

I stand corrected. Can we go after the bringers? Are they still around in S8?

Any Bringers who weren't in the Hellmouth or Sunnydale when Spike destroyed it are probably still around, and the First Evil is certainly still around.

That was Andrew Crosset.

I didn't say anything about "taking revenge" necessarily... just that he might take some rash action in hopes of making all the deadly craziness stop, and stop his friends and girlfriends from dying.
He lost one girlfriend to a Bringer, one to a vampire, and now seen Dawn injured by a demon. He may decide it's time to make all that go away, even at the expense of "good" magic as well.

^^ I doubt that was romantic though. He did seem hurt when Buffy told him she treated men like toys, but I'm not sure if he was ever into her that way.

Xander seemed to be attracted to Kendra, too. Or did I misread that? She also died.

Xander seemed to be attracted to Kendra, too. Or did I misread that? She also died. Xander's was a 17 year old boy in S2. I think he's supposed to at least look at any attractive female twice. But I didn't really get the impression that he was amorously infatuated with her. Rather, it was played the total opposite for laughs. Kendra was clearly flustered by Xander's presence... never really having been around boys and all that.

Well, he was a 17 years old boy, she a attractive strong girl, so I'm guessing she interested him sexually. I don't remembering seeing him show it though.

he definitely didn't show any serious interest in kendra. probably checked her out, but nothing more.
i think that anya being out of the season (and perhaps out of the title all together) is the best thing right now. whatever happens with the scoobies at the end of this season is going to require some finess in story telling and character development.
yeah, anya could be a spirit guide for xander. or she could be ressurrected by a mystical chant or perhaps she never truly died, (which would be a stretch).
either way, her role within the scoobies has been occupied by andrew now. although andrew is not as blunt or sarcastic, he adds the comic relief in dire times like anya used to. i wouldn't care much to see anya back unless there was a specific purpose, such as closure for her and xander, and then she was gone (i.e. a dream, crossing over w/ john edwards, whatever).
