I really hope season 9 deals more with the characters and less on the action. We didn't get enough character stuff. The best issue alone was The Chain (issue 5) simply due to the fact that it oozed emotion and read almost like a film piece.

I really have been curious about this statement made by Scott Allie
Buffyfest: Is anyone else going to die in Issue #40?
SA: Yes.
Buffyfest: Wait, what? Say again?
SA: Oh, it’s not what you’re thinking. Next?
I mean, I can't imagine she'll die but I know we didn't get closure that Dawn is okay after the seed was destroyed. She isn't seen but only the one page where she says, "Xander...?" and she is left alone while Xander goes down into Sunndydale again.
I would be really sad if yet another heart-aching blow happens to Buffy because she broke the seed and ended magic... and possibly ended Dawn, but hey, maybe the catch will be that Dawn is forever human now and the link to her being a key is forever lost and she's just "trapped" as Dawn - which I would see as a good ending for her. "I'm a real boy!...er girl!"

"It's not what you're thinking" makes me think we're talking turning into a vampire here?

"It's not what you're thinking" makes me think we're talking turning into a vampire here? That's what I thought, though I doubt it will be someone huge like Faith or something. Kennedy?

Aaaand word on the street is that Buff will be after a vampire in San Fran. I'm reaching here but reckon this is all linked?

I don't think the death will be anybody we know... the epilogue isn't the place for that kind of thing.
"Someone dies, but it isn't what you think" makes me remember Kennedy's mystical temporary death (which I would still like to have an explanation for)... but no more magic means no more magical deaths.

Not necessarily. Allie also said that issue 40 almost feels more the like beginning of season 9 in the way it sets up things. I don't think any major character will die or anything like that but its possible. I think we can rule out anyone being vamped though, since vampires can no longer sire people.

I think the siring can still happen. Its more a blood ritual versus actual spells commiting the vamp-act. And proof being that Harth is sired in the future in Fray. So I imagine they will still be killing many people who think they are all sweet and sparkle... they almost deserve it, don't ya think? LOL

LOL Scott Allie said in a CBR interview:Harth and the "lurks" in Fray can exist because something happened that allowed the demons back in... there hadn't been any (or any new ones at least) for 200 years. Urkonn says this is why the Slayer line died out, although apparently he was mistaken about that. (The Slayer line ended because the source of their power was cut off with the destruction of the Seed.)

How crazy. Its kinda hard to keep up with all of these interviews... they explain so much more than the actual comic does. Well that is pretty interesting then. Thanks Andrewcrossett, I'm very compelled to see where Buffy's calling takes her now? Since there is an actual "end" to the vamp cycle in sight, that means slayers can gain the upper edge on wiping all the vampires out and Buffy - through a long disastrous and unexpected journey through 8 seasons - may actually do what no slayer could, rid the world of vampires!? Cra-Zy.

Buffy is sort of mirroring the X-men comics with their "No More Mutants" now there is no more magic or new demons.
I didn't like it in the X-men comics so I doubt I'll like it in the Buffyverse though I am glad the slayer army has been decimated.
