Alright, ignoring the lame title of this thread( ): Do you have one, or more, characters that you're very close to? Like, they have a special place in your heart. They don't even have to be your favorite, just you feel very strongly for them. For me, it's Bennett Halverson, Claire Saunders(Whiskey), and Faith Lehane. (We all should know I adore Illyria and Fred already. Haha.) I feel very close to many Dollhouse characters, because I watched them grow for almost a year, and I felt so attached to that show. I have a connection with Dollhouse and its characters that I'll never have with any other show, not even Buffy, Angel, Firefly, ect. Dollhouse was the only show I ever truly stayed with from the beginning to its end. And, I mean, Bennett was so cute. Claire was so deep and tragic. I'll always favor those two, I can't deny it. Faith is another one I cherish. She's way more popular with the fans than Bennett and Claire combined, but there's just something about her that everyone loves, I think. She's so realistic, and... herself. She's tragic(Yes, I used that word already!). Gotta love her. And lastly, Illyria and Fred. Really, do I need to say why? Amy Acker's amazing portrayals of them, their personas, everything. Love them both to pieces. So join in, and just share your love.

lol.
Well, I watched Buffy and Angel from beginning and I always felt connected to Angel, Cordelia, Anya and Darla. Kind of outcasts and alone with in their group of friends and I could always kind of relate to that and them. I just love how each of them had grown to become the warriors and champions that they where and to then die a lonely but heroic death.

Willow.
When I first started to watch Buffy I was a shy bullied kid who liked to read, so I identified with Willow a lot. Later, in my teens, I discovered witchcraft and wicca and thought that was interesting.
I didn't get the later seasons until I was in my middle teens or something, and then I got more confident, and Willow turned lesbian and powerhungry, and became more confident in a different way, so I didn't feel as connected to her as before. But she will always remind me of that scared bullied girl who wanted to make a difference in the world.

Great thread *karma*
I probably have two who I feel are most special to me, and I know they're probably a lot of others favourites as well but that doesn't deter me from declaring my love for them!
Willow and Fred.
I guess there are similarities in the personalities even though they're stories are quite different - and there's something in myself that relates to them on a similar level. I guess with Willow i agree with what Sky said, how she was shy, dorky girl and found her power later on. And then there's Fred who's timid and shy. I think the way in which they are trying to 'please' everyone all the time, they're both very amicable and empathetic, passionate but not obnoxious - yet they WILL be assertive for the things they love if need be.
I relate to that - without being to up-my-self. I feel like I'm a 'pleaser' and will always do everything I can to support and take care of the people around me, but I also have a strong side that I will expose when need be.

I felt connected to Buffy, Spike, Angel, Willow and Xander. I still see the shy, awkward girl I once was in Willow. I also understand Xander not feeling like he's ever good enough or useful. He was right in the mix fighting along with his friends but will never truly get the props that he deserves. Angel is also this guy who keeps fighting for redemption and may never get it but keeps trying.
Buffy and Spike are the one's I felt the most connected to as individual characters even though I have nothing in common with either.
Spike puts a up this tough, bad boy facade but underneath it all he's the same sweet, poetic guy he once was who wears his heart on his sleeve. I've always felt the most pain for him as character than anyone else. He's only had two people to ever truly believe in him (Buffy & Fred).
Buffy went through so much as a character and is still going through it. How can I not love someone so beautiful, smart, strong and selfless? While watching the show, when she felt hurt or betrayed, so did I. I will forever love this character.

I like this thread. I don't think I have a "special friend", though. I definitely have favorite characters and ones I can relate to, but I wouldn't really describe myself as closer to anyone them.

Definitely Buffy in her high School years. I can relate to her the most.

My special friends would be: Willow, Fred, Kaylee, Buffy, and Xander. These are the characters I feel I can relate to in a "most like" way. Fred and Willow because they are the nerdy, geeky, smart, shy, girls. Kaylee because she is the sweetheart who will do most anything for anybody. Xander because he is sort of the "odd man out." He is very self-deprecating and lacks overall confidence, but this never stops him from being there for his friends when he is needed. Buffy because she is strong and tough. She has had her share of heartbreak yet she perseveres. This is something I really admire about her.

So, I've always thought I'd get along well with Xander and Giles, a strange combination. But I've always felt a deep connection to them both. Xander with his big heart and ability to other people's interests ahead of his own
Giles really sings to my inner bookworm. I'm an English major, so the stuffy librarian who isn't afraid to kick a little ass has always been interesting to me.
However, after rewatching the Buffy seasons during college, and discovering the Angel series, I really have to say that Lorne would have to join this list. I am really surprised he hasn't already made this list! He just has such a big heart and has that constant connection with people. I really enjoyed him and think he'd make a great drinking buddy!

I love this thread already. From BtVS-- Willow, Faith, Oz and S6 Buffy when she's working at Doublemeat Palace and trying to get her life in order. I love books and reading, and the fact that Willow relishes research parties means she has a special place in my heart. The Willow who feels like she's overlooked by boys like Xander and Spike (i.e The Initiative) "You came looking for Buffy, then settled. You didn't want to bite me, I just happened to be around. […] I know I'm not the kind of girl vamps like to sink their teeth into. It's always like, 'Oh you're like a sister to me, or 'Oh, you're such a good friend…" I can totally relate to that. And on the other end of the spectrum, I love Faith. I am the least similar to her but she speaks to my inner bad girl so I have a lot of admiration for Faith. She acts first and questions later, and follows her gut. I also love how tough she is but I respect her even more when she admits her mistakes and wants redemption and forgiveness. That's a different kind of toughness that I admire. I feel very strongly for the "My hat has a cow" Buffy. She's just trying to get her life in order and live in the world where bills are the demons and real life is the big bad. I totally get that! Dead end jobs are a bummer but sort of necessary in the short term. She's still the slayer and leader of Team Good, but even the slayer needs to pay the water bill. I definitely feel a physical/spiritual kinship with her. Oz and I would get along because I could see us sitting in complete silence and understanding each other without having to speak. Maybe a few nods here and there. Despite this incredibly long post… I am quite laconic. And even though I have undying love for Drusilla… I wouldn't want to be her friend. Because I'd probably end up as her meal. Kaylee because she is the sweetheart who will do most anything for anybody. I also think Kaylee and I would be good friends, for that same reason. Also, Adelle is the kind of woman I'd want to to take me under her wing and mentor me, if not befriend me. Like 10, 20 years from now, if I have the balls of steel like that woman and can simultaneously hold my vodka while bringing down a company like Rossum in smart dresses, pencil skirts and high heels, my life is complete. EDIT: OH, I almost forgot! Kendra is another person who has a special place in my heart, however short lived was her presence in the Buffyverse. Her sheltered life is something I can relate to, but she has this regal, quasi-bitchy quality that I love. She's a very loyal person, and she was a good friend to Buffy. I think she needed Buffy to teach her how to loosen up as much as Buffy needed her to show her how to accept her slayer identity. Her death made me sad And it was Dru of all people! Ah!

I always have and probably forever will empathise, love and sympathise with/for Faith. I see so much of myself in this character, I can't help but forgive her everything because I know what it's like to fail again and again and not to have anyone believe in you and for people to just write you off.
I know the absolute crappiness of people you love breaking your trust/abusing you/wrecking you untill there's nothing left but pain and anger and you end up deliberately doing the wrong thing because you figure "Hey, everyone expects the very worst of me anyway."
Plus, the jaded, tough, "I can do anything" exterior - I'm a LOT like this. Anyone who didn't really know me would think I was the most confident, together, tough person, but I can be such a wreck. So yeah, definitely Faith, all the way! Every time she does something awful I justify it, every time she gets one over Buffy I cheer. I just can't help loving her.
I also have an uber soft-spot for Tara. I love her! I think it's because she's my polar-opposite - shy, quiet, happy to sit on the sidelines but with this amazing inner calm and wisdom. I was so, so heartbroken when she died and I have never forgiven Whedon & Co. for moving Willow on so quickly after Tara's death.

Great thread, love reading these responses. *karma*
Tara- I can be pretty socially awkward and its really hard for me to make friends and keep a conversation going. I pretty much have her personality. Her song in OMWF about living in shadow and being brought out into the light by Willow really stuck with me. I feel like I'm waiting for my man-Willow in real life to arrive. Definitely my most special of special friends. I bet she would be a Pisces.
Doyle- Seeing a male character be so ashamed about his looks that he wouldn't try to be with someone he loved (Cordelia) was something I could relate to. "Too bad we'll never know...if this is a face you could learn to love."

In Dollhouse I would say Dr Saunders. In Buffy it's possible April-bot or the trio. I don't think I have one in Firefly but I'd love Simon Tam to be my special friend if you know what I mean

defiantly Willow. She grew so much during the show and i feel like i am kind of following what she went threw. From being completely nerdy at the beginning, then finding herself threw the rest of high school, eventually coming out, dealing with grief, and becoming a strong independent person. I also feel like i have a strong connection with Faith and Claire/Whiskey too.

I used to be a lot like Tara: sweet, shy, stuttering, and incredibly socially awkward. I'm growing out of most of that now (bathed in light!), but when I get into certain situations I revert back to Tara mode. Therefore, she's closest to my heart. Anya and Faith are two I strive to be like, at least for the strong, speak-your-mind personalities they both have. And in Anya's case, strangely literal (and accidentally hilarious). I think I already have that part down... people laugh at me a lot for stupid things I say.
