Welcome! I don't really know much about the writers religious backgrounds, although I think Joss is a humanist but I am not sure. Anyways, do spoilers bother you? If so I would recommend watching the rest of the series before reading into some of these threads... I spoiled Dollhouse for myself that way. But, if you're fine with that then that's good too. Either way welcome and such.

Hey! It's nice to meet you. I'm Eric. This is usually the part of my posts in these types of threads where I plug SlayAlive's watcher program. Basically, newbies who need help finding there way around the site will be paired up with one of our older, more experienced members. It's worth looking into if you need any help or have any questions. Also, we're moving! Basically, we've outgrown Proboards and the features they offer, so our admin, CowboyGuy has been hard at work on a new forum using vBulletin. It should be open any day now. You can read his official announcement here. I don't really know much about the writers religious backgrounds, although I think Joss is a humanist but I am not sure. I've heard him described as that too. His Wikipedia page has a whole section for his religious beliefs, if you guys are interested.

Welcome to the fourms, we have very knowlageable fans here. I personaly don't know if the writers had any religous backgrounds, though I do recal seeing many religous figures in Buffy and Angel. I think this is a great question to ask the other members though, create a thread about it in the General Discussions! Be sure to read the rules and if you are having trouble around the site you can get a Watcher. Just click slayaliveforums.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=adoption .

In keeping with Joss's professed atheism, there are several passages in Buffy that seem to project an anti-religious viewpoint. At one point, Buffy says, "Note to self -- religion, freaky." On her first day at UC Sunnydale, when a student asks her if she has accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior, her reply is, "You know, I meant to, but then I got really busy." There are also a few references to God in the two shows, mostly on Angel as I recall.
It's always seemed to me that BtVS takes an existentialist and absurdist position, as Joss says of his own beliefs. For a conservative Christian, I'd think that would be a problem. I do know some conservative Christians who are Buffy fans, though. Tabitha Grace Smith, who is one of the founders of Buffy Between the Lines and hostess of the fanfic podcast "Strangely Literal," is a believer. I don't know her personally, though I have exchanged maybe four emails with her. I don't know how she reconciles it. I do know she wrote a fic once where it transpired that Giles' version of prehistory turned out to be wrong. I guess the idea of an ancient earth run by demons didn't fit in with her world view. But talk to her, if you can, I don't want to put words into her mouth. If you go to the BBTL site I think you'll see a contact button. She answered me, I suppose she'd answer you too.

The talk of hell demension and powers that be seem to be refrence to punishment and to rewards for both good and evil. Earth being run over with Demons can be close to when before earth was populated with humans God cast out Satan and his demons from heaven. If Joss is an athiest I dont think the writers are. The show Takes more of a We don't really know aprouch.(I have dyslexia folks so beware my spelling) The redemption of angel Is a christian one all though slanted a little. The person who asked her if she had Jesus Christ was a funny part. I took that as those holy rolers(not christians) who feel they can just push their veiws on people. That just can't be done. I found those people turn more people away then anything else. Angel is a great show but if we jumped in front of people screaming they needed to watch it or they would pay they asume all angel fans and the show is just for loonies.
