the only thing is that it is not getting a good fan reaction apart from one or two people. Yeah and it's cracking me up. If this turns out to be a dream we're all gonna feel pretty silly.

Im asuming Buffy went to her as she does feel really lonley right now and just wanted to connect with someone and probably knew that Satsu would be willing to sleep with her. But if this is the case then why not go to Xander/Dawn or try and make up with Giles there fall out seemed petty to me. You would have thought hey would have made up by now..

yeah but Buffy and Giles have been on the outs since the beginning of season 6. they really need to work on their relationship, a phonecall isnt gonna cut it. much easier to sleep with someone that loves you. and Buffy for the most part is a child of habit and she loves feeling loved

If it's a dream, I'm going to be even MORE disappointed in Joss. Things just seem to be happening completely at random in this season. >shakes head<

I think that its more than just flattery. Buffy never did officially turn Satsu down, she just warned her about her history with relationships. So maybe Buffy decided to give it a shot.......its not like she has too many options when it comes to relationships these days.

I think this whole thing rides on Willow and her say on this.

the only reason i think this wouldnt have happen on the show is simply that i dont think SMG would have gone for it but besides that it tottallly could have happened. Chrecters grow and develope and do dumb irrisponsible things that the thing i love about joss. So what if buffy slept with a girl she slept with 2 vampires and one of them didnt even had a soul while he was sleeping with him. So give the girl a brake and the only thing i hope wont happen but proably will is. Satsu getting hurt that be really sad.

Heres what Joss had to say on Buffy's 'experiment' with Satsu:
"Before fans start blogging frantically, they should know that i'm clear where this is headed. We’re not going to make her gay, nor are we going to take the next 50 issues explaining that she’s not. She’s young and experimenting, and did I mention open-minded?”

That and other writers mght have had there say on it. I wonder what Marti Noxons or Jane Espenson thoughts are? They are both great writers and I hope they do an arc at some point I know that Jane does a standalone in this season but Martis would be brilliant.

Besides, with the censoring in t.v. today, there is no way that Fox would ever have the lead character participate in a same sex scene.

Okay, it's been a while since I've posted here. Just haven't had much to say, and I mainly just enjoy reading other people's stuff. But this whole Buffy/Satsu thing--specifically, the reaction to it--has gotten me to temporarily de-lurk again and comment on it.
There've been so many comments, both here and on another 'major' forum that I also occasionally skulk around, about how 'out of character' this supposedly is for Buffy. I don't believe it is. It's not 'in character', but that's not the same thing. 'Out of character' would be if, in the past, a girl had gone after Buffy, and she'd rejected the whole idea and said "Sorry, not my thing". That's never happened. By that same logic, then, Willow/Tara, Willow/Kennedy, and Willow/any-future-female are completely out-of-character, too, because she proved in S1-3 that she's straight. Most people can't be neatly categorized into specific little boxes on any subject, including sexuality. That's probably always been the case, but only now is society becoming open enough that people can begin to feel comfortable showing those sides of themselves.
One thing to consider about Buffy is that we know she's physically attracted to guys--that's been proven over and over. But have we ever seen that she's mentally and emotionally attracted to them, as well? Even with Angel, a point could be made that she was a teenage girl yearning for the perfect, storybook romance, rather than experiencing a real, adult relationship with him. Did she love him, or did she love the idea of loving him? Maybe she's looking for the kind of emotional connection with a woman that she's never found with any of the men in her life.
Another thing about her is that she's never been one to go out and pursue relationships herself (and that continues even now, with Satsu). She needs the other person to pursue her, or at least meet her halfway. No girl has ever done that before now, so how do we know how she would've reacted to it?
In fact, in S3, they never play this on a surface, dialogue-y level, but they certainly hint subtextually at the idea that Faith is trying to get something going with Buffy. Nothing ever comes of it, because of the trouble Mrs. Post stirs up between them, and the turn Faith takes after the death of the deputy mayor, but you could argue that, at times (the teaser of "Revelations", and the whole middle portion of "Bad Girls", for example), Buffy seems to at least be toying with the idea. Trying it on for size.
And for all the people complaining about why this kind of thing never happens with any of the main male characters, have we all forgotten already about Spike's line in "Power Play", where he pretty much comes right out and admits that he and Angelus once had an intimate encounter of some sort? I'm still trying to figure out what the difference is between that and this, other than that seemingly just being a 'throw-away' line done for comedic effect. Does that--along with the fact that we only hear about it, and don't actually see it--somehow make it less 'scandalous' than this?
It doesn't sound like anything's going to happen, long-term, between Buffy and Satsu. I wouldn't be in favor of it, necessarily (I'd like to learn more about Satsu first, so I hope her character will be developed more in the upcoming issues), but I wouldn't be opposed to it, either. I mainly just have a big problem with everyone going on and on about how out-of-character this supposedly is for B. If she settled into a long-term relationship with her, okay, that would be more OOC than this, but this--a one-time-only encounter--well, I can buy that. In fact, I can buy that from just about any of the characters, because that's real-life.
Oh, and on the subject of Buffy's age, and how 'young' she is? I believe she's actually only 24, not 25-26...

Oops, I stand corrected--read it this morning, must've "mis-remembered" it, as Mr. Clemens would say. I'll fix it.

Or maybe this incident just reinforces the thought that Satsu is the one who betrays Buffy. it's a stretch, but maybe she brainwashed Buffy into sleeping with her to cause her to drift from her friends again. Willow wasn't too happy about it, that's for sure.

Well i've actually read the issue now - I don't think buffy is unintrested, i mean she obviously had a good time. If i know Joss Whedon though, this isn't just a one night stand, thats too cheap.
Theres still more to this, one thing that occoured to me about this whole thing is it's a way of making buffy's connection to all the new slayers, cause i'm guessing at some point in the future, buffy is going to go back to being the one and only slayer, like fray is in the future. So buffy has personal, emotional vested intrest in the slaterettes.
I don't think it's out of charecter for buffy, she's always had an enigmatic sense to her sexuality if you ask me. And we know how lonely she's been and since buffy kind has issues when it comes to intimacy (feeling like stone) in a way satsu is perfect because buffy doesn't have to put her in the same box as all of her trainwreak guy-type relationships. It gives her a chance to be more lighthearted about it all, cause she has her excuse for not connecting, she's straight, or.., slightly bendy, but you know what i mean.
I'll be honest i see buffy and satsu keeping a romantic tone to there relationship for the rest of the time satsu is around. They won't officaly get together, but there will always be that undertone of... you love me, i appreciate that and in a way, i love you; for loving me.
On a lighter note, alot of laugh out loud moments when the gang found them, very pantomime..., i could just see that happening on the show. Especially the dawn bit hahahah.

I loved "Hi nude Asian girl..." Yes, that was hilarious. I thought this issue was BRILLIANT! For once I didn't read the spoilers, so Buffy and Satsu was a total shock. I did a double take for sure, but I loved everything about this issue, i really did and it is by far the funniest one to date, I laughed out more than once. I don't think it's out of character at all for Buffy to sleep with Satsu and imagine the scenario, you're in a cold, damp, scottish castle, you're lonely, your enemies could come and wipe you out anytime and a beautiful young woman tells you she loves you - only the most cold hearted wouldn't be tempted! And dracula - yay! And a mention at perezhilton.com - yay! Whatever happens between Buffy and Satsu next, we've been set up for some very interesting and comical scooby gang dynamics when they get on the road to Tokyo I for one can't wait
