Or she's on another one of her attention-seeking rampages... and could have possibly gotten pregnant on purpose. Gotten pregnant on purpose?? with a one night stand? with her boyfriend's roommate?? really don't see that happening. Also I thought someone mentioned earlier (possibly on another board) that Dawn had probably slept with both Kenny the Thrisewise and his roommate Nick. This is untrue: Dawn says that she never slept with Kenny. I like Emmie's point that maybe the condom broke. It's happened before. As for the not drinking bit... come on. Come on! You expect me to believe that Dawn was being all responsible while she cheated on her boyfriend? Come on!! Just not really buying the pregnancy deal... too many done so far, the biology's all wrong (unless magic messes with that)... oh I dunno. Bring on the issue that explains the deal. You know, I completely thought the same thing: that there is no way she could be in that much pain at that early stage of pregnancy. However that was and has continued to be the prevailing theory, so I looked it up. Turns out that severe cramping is completely normal in the first stages of pregnancy. I had no idea, and I've taken more than one classes on the subject. Another tidbit that is really grabbing my attention is the name of the arc: Time of Your Life. Weird, because at first I just attributed that to Buffy's time traveling... but if you really think about it, it has a maternal derivative as well.

You expect me to believe that Dawn was being all responsible while she cheated on her boyfriend? Come on!! Okay, you believe Dawn when she says that she never slept with Kenny, but not her declaration of not being Lindsey Lohan? As I said, I thought that Dawn was having an absolutely honest moment with Xander, and so if she said she didn't drink, and/or sleep with Kenny, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt for now. Speaking of condoms, note that probably the only time that the Scoobies were shown having safe sex was in that ep where Buffy and Riley couldn't stop doing it... he reaches over and pulls another one from the drawer... and there was probably a hundred pack scattered in there. Which kinda made me wonder if Riley always had those there (unlikely, since he doesn't seem to be the type that goes out to get some play all the time), or it's there so that there's no reason to keep up with Slayer stamina. Tangent. I'll take the breaking bit, if it's a pregnancy, and thanks for sharing info on early pregnancy cramps. Here's the other thing that's been bugging me. Is Kenny the Thricewise, or Nick? Or possibly some other third party? Because, if Dawn only slept with Nick, and she's pregnant with his kid (I say IF), then it could be Nick. Or if Kenny was actually a Thricewise and went into a jealous rage and cast a spell. I remember Joss saying that he had not quite worked out what a Thricewise was yet... so could be interesting.

I think Issue #1 it was made clear that Kenny is a Thrisewise, and Issue #10 Dawn said she didn't sleep with Kenny but she slept with Nick.
And yes, I do believe it when Dawn said she never slept with Kenny but lied about not drinking. She's being a teenager who got herself in a screwed up situation, and the only way she knows how to soften the blow is to lie a little bit about the circumstances. I did it all the time to make myself come out in a better light to the one's I love. The Dawnster even admits to lying to Willow about sleeping with Kenny, when she in fact never slept with him, but instead cheated on him with his roommate. So, yes, I think Dawn is capable of saying less than the truth to Xander and Willow in these circumstances.
I think you are right however to speculate if these pains are caused by pregnancy from Nick or another part of Kenny's spell, which would mean she was either getting bigger or suffering from the effects of being a giant (malnutrition, stress, etc).

It's kind of sad how everytime something about Dawn's giantess-ness is mentioned it's quickly overshadowed by something 'bigger'. I wish we'd get a FULL explanation of when/where/and why it happened...
I think her eggo is preggo...

In the latest Slay the Critics, Scott Allie said that we will find out the backstory about Dawn's giantness. I think this will happen in the next arc because we know that Issue #16 won't be told in chronological order anyhow, and there we also saw Dawn gaining some attention from the story arc. We should get the full scoop in the next few issues.

I think Issue #1 it was made clear that Kenny is a Thrisewise, and Issue #10 Dawn said she didn't sleep with Kenny but she slept with Nick. It's never explicitly confirmed that Kenny's a Thricewise. Everyone blames him for Dawn's condition because she was dating him. Not saying that he isn't, but even Willow's been wrong before, and Giles... British-guy isn't always right. So while I can go with the notion that Kenny's a Thricewise, I'm just not sure if everyone's right about him. Definitely interested in the explanation for the growth, though.

Hmmm.. Perhaps you are right about it not being explicit, but it did seem like everyone thought he was a Thrisewise, I took that to mean (from the writers) that he was one.

Dawn used to be a ball of energy which opened the doors to dimensions...I'm guessing the spell that made her human didn't take into account the possibility of her becoming a giant...she could be reverting back into that ball of energy. Also correct me if I'm wrong but the stomach clinching coincides around with the end of wolves at the gate right? The mojo those oriental vamps unleash could have a effect on Dawn too...?
That or she's got some bad gas...

I wonder what would happen if the vamps unslayered Dawn. I mean, she is made out of Buffy, so she might die or a part of her will be weakened. Perhaps she would turn into energy again.

[spoilers]
Well it looks like Dawn will be changing shape. What do you think is the plot behind it?

Nothing that can be said in a public forum without a few raised eyebrows. Putting on my serious face here, I really want the craziness with Dawn to end so that she becomes a character again, rather than just comic relief. I liked Buffy's cookie dough analogy, but if they're shoving Dawn's dough into animal cracker molds now... well, we're talking weird with a beard. Just realized that Dawn's face on the cover of #18 reminds me of the actress who plays Anne Boleyn in The Tudors. Also, am I the only one who thinks that the strategically placed arm/hair/whatever for censorship purposes in the comics looks a tad bit awkward sometimes?

haha, I agree about the strategically placed hair... no way it would just sit up there precariously like that. oops! there goes that pesky breeze again... Personally I like that they are doing something magical with Dawn. They can do it in a not-so-comic-relief-y way, something involving her key-like qualities. I wonder if it's a hex by Kenny or if it's her own strong feelings of conscience expressing itself in physical form. I made a parallel on the Issue #18 thread about centaurs, and how a female centaur whose name means "browser of the wood" committed an act of self-sacrifice. I seriously cannot overlook that analogy, simply because Dawn is a centaur in the woods on the cover. Makes me worry that she will sacrifice herself for something or someone. Besides, I like mythical creatures

I'm just dying to hear the Xander-isms about Dawn being a "filly", and all the oh-so-wrong "ride me" quips. Hey... not really judging here. Kinda invested in the whole S8 storyline so far, so I'm game... as long as it's not completely insulting to the reader's (namely myself) intelligence.

I think Dawn's giantness has gone on for far too long with little explanation. I'm glad they're giving it some attention, and hopefully resolving it. No doubt Dawn would have to turn into a mythical creature to get some attention. No wonder why she cries a lot. I think Joss is writing this arc, so no worries about spites to your intelligence, he may outrank us all on this subject

I put "De-Giant-izing" Because she does shrink back to her usual size, and then she turns into a centaur. So I'm guessing it could be both "De-Giant-izing" and "Other". I know you guys are probably thinking "How the hell does he know that she will shrink back?". I figure it would be too stupid and unbelievable if there was a giant centaur running around. And she isn't taller than the trees in the cover for 18, and you can see the roots (or whatever the heck that is at the bottom).
