I've got a theory!... I get the feeling like when Willow was all M.I.A she was off doing something heavy in magic. Like El Diablo Robotico said about Willow getting it on with that Snake-God (or whatever she was). I think she did something that will effect the story later on. As far as her power to fly, well I mean comeon. This season is all about taking this show to the next level. I mean, I understand the sentimental feelings for wanting things a little more like they were when the gang was back in high school, but that's what the DVDs are for. I've always urged for over-the-top, how-far-can-they-get, type of action. When Willow sucked in all that magic (Dark & Light) she became something different. She went from a small time witch with little spells to a "big all-powerful earth-mother witch goddess" as described by Amy. It's totally believeable that she can fly and I'll take it a step further and say that by the end of this season why will be like, "Pshh, flying aint sh*t! Did you see when she (Fill in the Blank)!"

Willow has been gone awhile when Season 8 starts, and no one is really sure where she has been. Like many others said, she was probably learning even more. In due time we will learn where she has been. The great thing about comics is flashbacks are easy, and we can see them do anything!

I always figured it was Willow's tap into "white" magic that gave her all that extra power, and that now she has learned to hone her power and use it responsibly.
As for "it's no fun because she's the ultimate witch and nothing challenges her", we haven't seen Twilight vs. Willow. I'm waiting for those tickets to come up on Ticketmaster, cause I'll be front row!

Willow did float im season 5 when Tara's family comes to visit to take Tara home and at the end Willow and Tara dance and they are both floating. I'm assuming Willow would ahve been able to do some of the things she can do now in season 8 if she wasn't holding back the whole of season 7. She probably learned and remembered alot t of the things from when she was Evil Willow, she absorbed alot of magic knowledge out of nearly every book in the magic shop. I actually do think that it's tara that floates. since we never have seen Willow float before, and it's tara who is happiest in Family, becauase she has a new and better family and in OMWF Willow is going down on her, which explaines the floating. tara floates when she's happy. But that's just my guess.

When was that? Season 5? That was before Willow got "hooked" on the black magicks.
I've always thought that because the Scythe spell turned Willow's hair white, it meant that she was intimately connected with the "white" magicks, and can now draw on either, which makes her one powerful wicca!

I would go along those same lines too. Wasn't that the point of Willow's arc, that she would end up in the complete opposite place she was before. She was afraid of using magic up to that point, and she was terrified of performing that Scythe spell since she said that the darkest place she had been, this was what lay beyond that. She was afraid of the total loss of control it required. it was also a nice throwback to the Willow-Tara sex bits, where their "relations" were usually shown through spells and other such metaphors. I mean... "Oh... my... Goddess!" Hmmm... total loss of control? Kinda like in "Touch" wouldn't you say? With the tongue ring and all.
