This makes me believe that this arc is going to have HUGE significance with the Twilight storyline.

it does sound like it will. Isn't this the arc that Joss something BIG and revealing would happen and we'd all be like WHAT??
Or did I read that wrong?

Joss said the story is going to take a big, surprising turn in issue #21. And then there was that rumor about some major Joss-related news coming in July. Maybe you've gotten those two things mixed-up?

Gunther and Harth! Yay! Those covers are amazing! Especially Jo Chen's one! Great Buffy likeness and Gunther looks great in his underwater home!

Buffy looks amazing in Jo's cover. Her face is very SMG and her expression and body language are great, very natural.
I'm a little disappointed with Melaka tho. She looks stiff and her expression is a bit blank - NOT the dynamic character and face that I know from Fray as drawn by Karl Moline.

Problem being that Mel doesn't have a human reference for people to work with. For Buffy, there's SMG. For Mel, there's Moline's work from before, but to put that into a more realistic light's a little harder. I know that Moline was referencing Natalie Portman's proportions at first, so maybe that's a start?

I'm so amped for this arc!! That is totally Willow in the cover with Harth!! No mistaking that! I wonder if she lived that long, and turned evil?

Great cover, Chen's work is awesome. While I love the abstract take Jon Foster's been doing, I'm glad it's only for Wolves at The Gate. I can't believe people actually thought Buffy and Fray would be fighting the entire time, clearly this is the stuff superhero crossovers are made of. The covers always show the two heroes going at it when in actuality, they meet, fight over a misunderstanding and team up the rest of the issues. Also very cool that all Fray's characters are coming back, this is looking more and more like both an issue of Buffy and an actual sequel to Fray.

Sorry Barry, look at the HQ image (bigger). It's totally Dark Willow. Even the eyes are black. The body structure, and hair is exactly like how Georges draws Willow. Even the dress!!

Jo really made Gunther look amazing and alive, so its disappointing that Mel isn't popping off the page. She's just such an active character, ready to flip around while having a very vocal expression. I wish Moline was doing a variant too. Maybe it was just too much to put on his plate. I don't think its Dark Willow here, Phil. This woman is dressed in more old-fashioned clothes and I don't really see Dark Willow wearing that (I know she's only really had like one outfit, right?). Willow likes the flowing, wicca dresses but Dark Willow's clothes were more utiliatarian. It feels more like Dru than Dark Willow.

I think Jo made Mel look expressive enough in the #16 cover, so I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt here. You could say that maybe Mel is trying to look all serious and hardass-y in front of Gunther, and possibly intimidate him into giving her and Buffy some information...

While were on the subject where the hell did Willow even get those clothes? Was she just sort of storing them until the day she went goth and tried to kill the world? I very much doubt it's Willow, in fact I'm pretty much 100%. The main evidence to that being that Dark Willow still hanging around hundreds of years into the future (which being that Willow is human would take some serious doing) is that it would simply be way too big of a plot point to reveal months before in a variant cover. These covers don't "accidently" leak, they're put out there. I'd guess it was Drusilla, that'd be pretty cool. If any of our vamps made it that far (though I think After the Fall has shown that it's possible Spike lasts into the Fray days) it would be Dru. She's too crazy to get randomly killed and we haven't seen anything from her in years. While traditional vamps aren't too abound in the future there's nothing saying they're not just lying low.

Good point, Diablo. I'm just a bit disappointed that Gunther and Buffy are outshining Fray here imo.
As for Dark Willow, why would she be standing next to Harth sitting on his throne like his sidekick? Dark Willow is too powerful to ever need to team up with a bunch of vamps. Harth and Dru make more sense to me.

I finished reading Fray last week,so now I'm real excited for this arc.I really hope that is Dru,as I really miss her.
I also think that we can definitely rule out Harth as Twilight [although I wasn't leaning toward him anyway]

These covers are amazing. Too bad I don't have any money to go out and buy Fray with. I have no idea who Harth is.

Good point, Diablo. I'm just a bit disappointed that Gunther and Buffy are outshining Fray here imo. Quite literally. Fray's standing in the shadows... that could result in some of the flatness that you're talking about. No offense to Jo fans, but her Fray in #16 looked a tad too much like Faith. It was the magenta-tipped hair and tattoo that gave it away. I'm not saying that it was bad, but maybe Jo's just warming up... there could be some serious bad-assery headed our way. Except for the mystery woman in the variant, Jo's cover for #17 seriously trumps. And I'm the guy who loves Jeanty's work, including many of his covers. But his variants for #16 and #17, not my faves.

While were on the subject where the hell did Willow even get those clothes? Was she just sort of storing them until the day she went goth and tried to kill the world? Pretty sure she magicked up that outfit, similarly to what she did in Tabula Rasa when she magically dressed herself. Supposedly her magic dresser isn't limited to the clothes she has in her real dresser. Yeah, I totally don't think that's Willow. My first thought was Dru, although I am a little disappointed that she is in the shadows so... I want to know for sure who that is!! If it is Dru, in my imaginary world where IDW and DH were loving, sharing people, Spike would totally make an appearance and "bump" into Buffy... hehehe.
