This makes me fear for the Frayverse. There's no way Joss will allow Willow to live for another 200 years and become sad, angsty and evil. This will be undone for sure. I'm thinking when Buffy gets sent back, she'll prevent Future-Dark-Willow from ever happening and probably the Frayverse from ever happening. And I think Joss might, just might kill Mel, which will make me very sad. I mean why not? If he's going to undo that whole future it would be just like Joss to give us a heartwrenching moment with a character we love before he does it. I have no reason to think Joss would kill Mel off, simply because she will never be happy, Harth being the source of course, and I doubt Joss will kill him off in this arc (being Future Willow centric and all). The cool thing about this (for me anyway) is I know that Fray is canon, and will not be chucked out as an alternate universe. Just because we have Buffy and Willow in the future doesn't mean that to resolve the drama the entire Fray storyline has to go to waste. Joss has more talent than that. Instead, I see this as a warning to Buffy.... exactly what Willow is capable of, and hopefully she can stop Willow from going down this path (in a method that doesn't mess up Fray's world.) So in short, I agree: I think this arc is part of an alternate universe, a possible future that Buffy needs to save Willow from.

Evil Willow is just too much for me. This kind of makes me want to stop reading. This is exactly how I feel, smashed. It just hurts my heart to think of Willow all alone for all those years without Xander and Buffy...or anyone for that matter. They better fix this and make it so it doesn't happen!

madscientist, i miss your point. I believe that in the buffyverse, there is a lot of alternative universes, and perhaps Fray will become one of those in case Buffy comes home and changes the future the right way, so that fray and dark wilow never happens.
But i don't get the other half of what your saying. Do you think the Willow in the future already is from an alternate universe?

I'm sick of all the recylced characters, too. Depending on how the rest of the Fray arc goes, I might stop ordering them. If the Fray timeline is erased...

Amy i was happy with. Warren, not so much. But im okay with it now. Dracula i was okay with. Oz, Ill be very happy with. Dark willow, im not happy with. But it doesnt seem like its THE dark willow, and it seems like an alternate version that can be stopped. Like Vamp willow from season 3. So ill see where Joss goes with this.

This was pretty much my thought process with each recycled character. Amy. Oh, cool--so Amy is the big bad? Warren? Uh... okay. Ethan Rayne? Well that's... uh... Dracula? Wow--this is the stupidest thing and it's annoying that people think that this silly dialogue is amusing. Dark Willow? Right, so we can forget about this series actually moving FOWARD any time soon. Oz... I liked Oz but COME ON. So much for this being the next chapter in Buffy. More like lazy writing.
Like I said before. If they erase Fray from the timeline (meaning that whatever happened to lead up to Fray never happens) I'll probably stop buying the comics as they come out. One of the major things I was looking foward to was how it all played out and led up to Fray. Looks like it is going to end up being a big Marvel fake out, though.

I was very pleased to discover the madwoman is Dark Willow. I wanted Drusilla at first, but the more I think about it, Dark Willow will be a lot more interesting than Dru would be. I mean Buffy could just stake Dru, whereas with Willow it's so much more complicated. So yeah, I'm very happy about it.

Wow.... I couldn't feel more differently about the Fray crossover. I bought the Fray TPB after the first TOYL issue, so as to be up to speed with the backstory and I thought it was utterly heart-wrenching in the one and only most beautiful Whedon way. I REALLY encourage you to give Fray another shot. The first two issues are mere introductions to the core characters. You GOTTA get to the meat and the big finish. Not to mention... it sets up TONS of parallels with Fray's life and Buffy's life, and makes the TOYL arc truly amazing to read.

My fiance had a strange theory...
What if it's Willow crossed with Dru? I mean, the clothing and fingernails look more like Dru, than Will, and the riddle-speak?

Im not convinced that this Dark Willow is our Willow in the future. I'm hoping this is another case of Vamp Willow.

I'm sorry, Emmie, I thought that showing just one page was okay. I would love to buy all the issues as they come out, but I live in France so they would be too expensive for me with the shipping fees. I guess I'm gonna have to wait a looooong time (any news about TOYL TPB by the way ?) lol

Bored now. I feel like it's been done. Willow can wear the evil boots. We get it. The more she does this, the less believable I'll find her in the hero role. Whatever happened to season 1 Willow? She's a completely different character than the Willow we have now. She's not the Willow that helped me fall in love with the show in the first place. I liked akward Willow, hacker extrodinare... And now everything about her I related to is different. I don't know, my opinion of her as a character just keeps going down. Meanwhile, the more Xander I see the more I love him. And even though Buffy's made her mistakes, she's always very likable. Even Dracula has improved with time. What is with you, Willow? I have faith in Joss, and yet Willow hasn't been my favorite character for a while, and she probably won't be again. Echo that, mad. The more incredibly powerful Willow grew, the less I cared about her. Amy's speech in 'The Killer In Me' really hit it home - everything comes too easily for Willow and she doesn't suffer the consequences the way others do. Willow starting jumping the "I still empathize and care about her" shark towards the end of season 4. I miss Willow. The Willow I could connect to. Willow's growing up, she's changing. Everyone changes, because nothing really stays the same. It's like they Joss/SMG said in the Paley Center Reunion a few months back...they said something about it having a lot to do with taking them out of the comfort zone, showing more aspects of the character...might've wrote that incorrectly... But my big ol' theory on this is that the higher Willow goes, the harder she will fall. Yes things have come easily and naturally, but eventually there has got to be a cutoff..
