When I first saw this cover, I was a little underwhelmed. While it was an admirable attempt to capture the essence of the story by Jo Chen, it did fall short. Buffy looked amazing, Fray was a little off and Willow did not look quite as good as on previous covers. Willow's face is partially obscured by shadow, which is why her left eye looks larger, that's not what bothered me, as I thought it was an interesting effect along with the hair tendrils turning to vines. I think what felt "off" for me was the positioning of the three characters in the image. They are all bunched to the left of the image, which throws the balance of the art off. I also think Fray's pose is unusual, you can't really see her too well. The likeness for Willow is also not quite there which is most times standard in Jo Chen's art. So far, this is my least favourite TPB art, but with all that said, it's still a solid cover, and I'll definitely buy it.

I don't like the arrangement of the cover. I think Buffy looks good, minus the bulging muscle arm. I don't think Willow looks that bad. Except one eye is bigger than the other and it's too dark on the one side. Other than that, it's good.

I think Buffy looks good, minus the bulging muscle arm. Yeah, right. What is up with the uber muscle here? It reminds me of when Jeanty first drew Buffy in Issue 1 and 2. Chen didn't make that mistake at first of depicting Buffy as overly muscular...apparently she lost that I just think Fray looks really awful here. It makes me wonder if Fray's face is hidden and in the background of Buffy because Chen didn't want to give her much attention. Buffy's face in the foreground looks great and Willow's face looks great too. Fray's face is tucked down and the details (when you study them) are just sad. This is my least favorite Chen cover. The way Buffy and Fray are placed just feels awkward to me.

Again Chen's art is AMAZING. She always captures their likeness like it's a photograph. (And Jo Chen is FEMALE to those who referred to her as "him".) The only problem that I have with the art, is that she chose to hide Fray's face a little. I can understand that since the arc's mainly about Buffy and Willow.. HOWEVER... I feel that Fray should have had a full face at least. After all, Fray did have her own series and is a prominent character.

In general, not a fan of this cover. Willow seems more akin to Moline's illustration of Dark Willow then Chen's #19 cover (a fact also pointed out by El Diablo via personal communication). I really don't think too much of her illustration of Mel here, but again, I'm guessing that a major issue could be the lack of a likeness to actually capture, which is something which Chen does exceedingly well. But my favorite part is actually Buffy. This seems to be the culmination of her previous efforts in capturing dynamic poses. The pose for the cover for the WatG TPB seemed stilted. Satsu on the cover of #22 (SPOILER alert, I guess) was better, but still lacked a little something. I love the foreshortening effect seen on Buffy... where the Scythe is in the foreground (and the focus) of the image. And I don't find the arms too muscular at all... they still look quite fetching... very toned and Slayer-esque.

I really love this cover. It's nice to see Chen's adaptation of the way Dark Willow looked in the comics. Willow on the cover of Time Of Your Life Pt. 4 was amazing, don't get me wrong, but looked more like Willow from the show. Very epic cover this time around, much like The Long Way Home TPB. Can't wait to add it to my collection. Well done!

I mean Willow looks more like she does in the comic. Stayed more true to how she looked in the arc. I love the cover of issue 19. One of my absolute favorites. Great detail. Willow just doesn't look like she's full blown dark, like she is in the comic. Black lips and all.

Oh, not dark willow-y enough. I wonder if future willow uses black lipstick, because even in season 6 her lips aren't as dark as the colorist color them, are they? Or maybe that was used to make her look cooler, not suppose to be realistic.

I kept wondering where that picture of Buffy in the new banner was from. xD This has to be the best TPB cover so far!

Yeah April 29th. Thats not too bad a wait but stil considering when issue 19 & 2o were released it has been a while. Why does it take so long for the Buffy TPB's to come out. All they do is put the 5 issues into the book with no extras or covers where as ATF pust them into hard back, throws in a ton of extras and cover and they are still out before Buffy. It's probably because Dark Horse is a good deal larger an operation than IDW. Although Buffy is their top title, they have a lot of other popular books as well (with some major licenses) that have to be worked into the production schedule and budget. The Buffy TPB's are very good sellers, and DH doesn't want to risk doing a half-assed job with them. Putting some space in there helps assure quality as well as allowing for a good promotional period and a buildup of anticipation. They want to market the TPB as a separate event from the arc itself. IDW is a smaller publisher that is currently trying to make bank on the lucrative "Angel" license while it lasts. That's why they have a much more aggressive production schedule. And they have fewer other projects to devote resources to than DH has.

All they do is put the 5 issues into the book with no extras or covers where as ATF pust them into hard back, throws in a ton of extras and cover and they are still out before Buffy. If the TPBs came out too soon after the individual issues, more people would just wait for the more convenient and economical TPB. But with the delay, if a reader wants to know the story and talk about with all the other fans in a timely manner, they've got to pick up the issues. And then they still might buy the TPB, on top of that! I look at it the same way as for books with hardcover vs. paperback, or movies with theatrical release vs. DVD. In most cases the latter of the choices is cheaper and/or more convenient to me as a consumer ... yet because of my own need to know/participate with friends, I'll go with the first option available which is probably more profitable to the distributor.
