I don't think it was ever going to be masivly big because it had such a small release and it is an indpt movie. BUt I definately thought it was going to be bigger than it is.
The reviews for this movie are soooo manic. In the same review the critic will say that he hates the movie and it was a waste of time and then at the end he says that you should go see it because the preformances make it worthwhile. SO, is it a waste of time or worht while? And the majority of the reviewsa re like that.

That is so strange given that SMG was on Regis & Kelly and Letterman. I've been waiting for it to hit Canada.

No one has confirmed that it is not going to still expand atleast to the planned theaters. I would not hold my breath for Canada though.

Ok everyone... I just finished watching this movie and I have to say, it is wonderful! Sure it is not the best movie ever made but it is a great movie.
The 4 stories work so well together even though they are a bit rushed and can be some what melodramatic at times. The acting is what brings it all together. The main leads were all fantastic. Andy is frightening and Forest is so believable in his sadness. Brandon Fraser was my least favorite of the film but that is probably because his character is the least developed of all the leads. Kevin Bacon was awesome as usual but his character was underdeveloped also. I am not just saying this because I am a Buffy fan but Sarah is truly the star of the show. She gives an incredible understated and emotional performance. This is her movie, through and through. You have to see the movie to get what I am saying. I don't want to spoil it for anyone that has not had the chance to see it yet.
I give it a solid 8/10 stars!
Definitely Sarah's best performance yet. Her most adult role also. Her character has one hell of a mouth and she even shows more skin that she has in any other role (assuming it is not a body double).

I also just recently saw it, and it's not a favorite. I really don't think it deserved all the bad reviews it got. A D-? No way! The whole movie just moved a little too fast for my liking, I wanted to get to know the characters more and the whole story is extremely cliche.
But besides that, the cast deserves their props! Everyone was great in it. This was without a doubt Sarah's best performance yet. I really wish she would do more movies like this so she can show people that she's a great actress with huge potential. I also really liked the movies soundtrack.
I give it a 6/10.

I agree about the paceing. I thought that Sarah story was the fullest (for obvious reasons once you see the movie) but the other characters stories are so truncated. There is no begining to any of them. We jsut jump into a story in progress.
Also, was there no title card for Sorrow? I know there was one for Love, Happieness, and Pleasure but I don't remember sorrow poping up on the screen.

I think I remember seeing the Sorrow title card when she was doing the interview from the point of view of the camera. I could be wrong though.

Hmm. I will check again. It seemed odd to me that they all had one except her. Maybe I looked away. They flashed quickly.
I have a question about the time line though...
Beginning of spoiler...hilight to read.
OK. The movie comes full circle at the end when Happiness and Sorrow collide. I was under the impression that Pleasure gives Happiness the gun and then he goes out and robs the bank. After Pleasure gets killed, Sorrow goes on to work out her debt to Fingers. It seemed to me that a little bit of time passed there because Love's story takes place. But then Happiness and Sorrow's story turn out to take place on the same day. So, if Pleasure died during Sorrow's story, how does he give the gun to Happiness? Is this a mistake in the time line or was I wrong in assuming that Sorrow's story spanned a period of time after the death of Pleasure. I guess I must have been off in my assumption of the time line. It makes sense if they all happen on the same day.
End of Spoiler.
God! The more I think about this movie, the more I like it. Dare I say that this is Sarah's BEST movie? Even better than Cruel Intentions!! I do dare! It is a really great movie!

That also confused me a little bit also.
SPOILER: Highlight...
I took it as a little bit of time passed between Pleasure giving Happiness the gun and Happiness robbing the bank. When Happiness is about to rob the bank we find out that he has this WHOLE big plan, which must of taken some time to come up with.
1. Pleasure gives Happiness the gun. 2. Pleasure's Story. 3. Sorrow's Story. 4. Love's Story. 5. Happiness robs the bank, gets shot. 6. Sorrow gets the money.
I hope that's right.
END OF SPOILERS.

I think that has to be right. That would explain the sequenct of events and how they play into the overall narative.
I llove the line at the begining of the movie "When a caterpiller emerges from it's cacoon as a butterfly, does it think it is still a caterpiller or does it know it is a butterfly" That is not a direct quote but you ge the drift. People on IMDB are saying stuff like "I didn't know butterflys could think" and stuff like that. That forum is so negative sometimes I am thinking of not visiting it anymore. Noone has been blatently rude to me but the overall feeling of negativity is such a downer!

I love that line too. My favorite part of the movie would probably be Sorrow getting swarmed with fans and paparazzi, it was sad and made me feel bad about what we do to celebrities today. Sarah was amazing during that scene.
Oh how hate IMDb forums. I go there sometimes to get news and see how people feel on certain subjects, but everyone is just WAY too negative. You voice your opinion, and your attacked.

It didn't make it past CA and NY, as far as I know.
How did you see it, BuffyFanOne?
I really wanted to experience this movie on the big screen but I'm happy the DVD will be out before we know it!

I know the movie business sucks, but this is ridiculous-SMG should be a BIG movie star by now and I can't understand why so many people seem to hate her guts. Or is it they just hate her movies-who knows? And how is it they say if it doesn't make enough money in NY and La, then there's no further release-a guy e-mailed me after I gave Southland Tales an A on Yahoo Movies, even though I couldn't see it, and said they only showed Southland Tales once a day at 1 pm! Now how is any movie supposed to make money if it's only shown once a day and in the middle of the day to boot when most people are working? This really ticks me off! Ok, had to vent-I feel better now.
