Only one of his shows haven't lasted beyond the first season. Buffy got a fantastic seven seasons and Angel five. Dollhouse is unknown right now. Lets not be too gloomy over an unknown outcome yet. Dollhouse's viewing figures for the first 2 episodes are roughly 1 million more than what early Buffy episodes got, and are comparable to Buffy's average figures over its last 4 seasons. Dollhouse is getting about as many viewers as "Angel" was at the height of its popularity. And neither Buffy or Angel had the benefits of downloads or easy DVR recording. With those factored in, Dollhouse is actually getting far more viewers than either Buffy or Angel at the height of their popularity. I don't think Fox is either surprised or disappointed by these results. Yet.

If he eventually calls it quits with TV (and I'm sure he will, someday), and moves to the web, I'll be a leetle sad just because it's the end of an era. Hitting the couch with a cold drink and a snack when it's time for the Joss Show is a small hobby in this house. However, it's the start of a new era, with Dr. Horrible leading the way! That kinda rocks. And I know, we all know, what he can do when he's got the creative juju happening and a bunch of stuffy studio execs are not standing in his way. What would be even awesomer is if this is how Ripper finally got off the ground, and I was saying to a friend yesterday how awesome it'd be if we got a limited revival of the Buffyverse. Wishful thinking on the latter.

Dollhouse hasn't even aired over here and Joss and others are talking of abandonning it.
Eeek, that really scares me! If it's going to end, I hope that they air an entire season at the least! Lots of people thought Firefly was a slow starter and it got cancelled in the midst of the best episodes! Very disappointing...

Dollhouse hasn't even aired over here and Joss and others are talking of abandonning it. I don't think Joss is talking about abandoning it. He's sunk a lot of effort into this and the last thing he'd want to do is simply walk away. However, he (like a lot of fans) is frustrated with the business end of the schtick saying what the artistic end can and can't do. The least it does is make for erratic storytelling when that happens, but as we've seen before in Joss' case (and other times, with other creators), it's also the recipe for show death. I've no doubt he would abandon TV. Sheesh, the way TV's been lately, I've abandoned it. Try and look at the bright side: if he leaves TV, it just means he's going to be able to turn his entire attention toward making web series.... serieses... shows. More Dr. Horrible. Yay! DH is what you get when Joss is in control of making Joss' shows. And hey, my lame fantasy is that he'll figure out how to make a short web series about slayers, to go with the Buffy Season 8 comics. (Hey, a girl can dream! ) My sentiments as well. But let's not put the cart before the horse yet. I go back and forth on whether or not I think the show's going to tank or float, but my hope is that by the end of the season, the eps will increase in quality, the word will get around the fandom, and people will come back to see the season finale, and the numbers will slightly improve.

Thanks heaps UnKle!!! You've helped put my mind in a state of semi-ease. I'm still worried about it not making it to free-to-air TV in Aus, because FOX has the rights, whch means it might only be aired on Foxtel (Pay TV). HOW AWESOME a web-series of slayers would be... That'd be worth the TV loss... long as Dollhouse doesn't suffer!

Hopefully Fox learned from their mistakes and will atleast give Joss the benefit of the doubt with Dollhouse, and not judge it so early on.
