Matcho, matcho man. I want to be a match man...oh hey juice
I love The Witch another great episodes shame we've only got about 3-4 good ones left of season 1 on accout of the rest of the season beong pretty boring. I really like Amy's charatcer and the story was great in this. Is it Amy doing the curse's, is it her mum...yeah kind of but in Amy's body. Wooo.
Nice episode over all I give it 8.5/10

From IMDB:
Our first glimpse of a non-vampire Sunnydale monster 8/10.
A lot of BTVS episodes use monsters as metaphors for real life problems. "The Witch" confronts the issue of parental pressure with a story of black magic, cheer leading and... well... a witch. It introduces us to Amy, who will pop-up again throughout the series and her mother. The two of the have an apparently perfect "we're best friends and practice our cheer leading routines together three hours every day" relationship, which contrasts nicely with the often confused, occupationally strained atmosphere between Buffy and Joyce. It all works together nicely as the episode leads to a twist at the end. Also, Willow will develop some magic of her own in later seasons, so it's interesting to see her here, cracking broomstick and cauldron jokes. By season five, witch stereotypes offend her, but in season one she's just another mortal with a "less evil than thou" attitude.
On the downside, Angel isn't in this episode. Which is a shame because I would've liked to see his reaction to Buffy in hyper, sort of crazed, cheer leading mode. She's really cute... Well, until we learn that she's been cursed and is now dying, anyway. Also, I'm not sure why there is a mirror hanging upside down over the chemistry teacher's desk, all hinged on one side so Buffy can knock it down as a shield. But, hey!... I'm not sweating the small stuff.
My favorite part of the episode: The little cheer leading statue at the end. Watch for it in later episodes. "Its eyes follow you."

"My buds! I love my buds!" "She's a witchy." I love the whole scene from when Buffy wakes up until she collapses. So funny!

What's really amazing to me is that Cordelia is at her meanest in this episode-I mean, she's really horrible in that scene in the locker room. Who would've guessed when this episode first aired that she'd wind up on the side of good?
Best wishes,
Scott

Mean Cordelia always amused me, though. Maybe I'm just a bitca.
Favorite quote of the episode: Willow: That girl's on fire! Cordelia: (facing away, not seeing the smoke) Enough of the hyperbole!
Oh Season 1! When no one suffered from unfortunate hair.

This is the first episode I ever saw of Buffy and it's what made me become a crazed fan. So yay for that. Cordelia's eyes in that wonderful scene where she goes blind are crazy scary. I think that really stuck with me when i was a kid. =]

THe witch is a cool episode. The suprise ending caught me off card! Nicely done! It was so much a metaphor for controling parents that act like they want to be you. Alot of funny lines too! "Iwant to be a mucho man" ANd Amy totaly force choked xander the way darth vader does in the films. I would have like a little more fighting and no angel kinda was bad. But a fun episode. I hope the next one is just as good!

Xander: I laugh in the face of danger, then I run and hide until it goes away
I thought that was a great line. It was cool to see the cheerleaders because we don't really get to see much of the popular type crowd other than Cordelia and her friends. I thought the part where they were in science class was very obvious, probably to more than just Amy too. You can tell they haven't done much like that yet.

This episode is one of the best examples of Buffy's true heroism. She saves people all the time, yes, but in this episode she is fighting another human. Her problem solving skills, in part due to her slayer intuition, are key. Even while under the harmful curse of Mrs. Madison, Buffy can see through the gauze of the body-switch spell. She is a real problem solver, and that's harder to do that stick a vamp with Mr. Pointy, i.m.o.
Another thing I really love about this episode is the character trait of Buffy wanting to be a cheerleader. This shows us that she was a very different person before becoming a slayer, as we learn later on when she and Cordelia run for May Queen. It shows us what Buffy has given up in order to fulfill her calling, which is a constant struggle for her to compromise.
As always, I thoroughly enjoy the 90's fashion, slang, and music. What a great episode!!
9/10

Cordy's eyes in this ep. remind me a lot of her eyes in the later season of "Angel" when she gets vision. She sure has come a long way.
This is probably my favorite episode of this season. I always felt that Amy and Willow (or at least the actresses) had good chemistry together.

That's my favorite parts of early Buffy seasons. The Willow/Buffy/Xander high school interactiony type stuff.

The Witch
The good; Amy for the first time, yay! And even now she's still appearing in season 8. I always thought if Will died she'd have been a good replacement. Buffy looks sensational in her cheerleading gear, a shame we'll never see her in it again (and we won't see the costume again until Dawn digs it out in season 7). Willow gets more hands on with the axe and we have our first case of Wicca although it's a very dark variety. The African fertility statue gag is the first sign of the saucy humour Buffy and Angel will become famous for. Lovely scenes between Buffy and Joyce both at breakfast and in closing. I gotta say, I didn't see the twist at all.
The bad; What happens to the poor girl whose mouth sealed up? Presumably all the aspects of Amy's mum's magic stop once she is defeated.
Best lines; Willow; That girl's on fire! Cordy; Enough with the hyperbole
Giles; Why would anyone want to hurt Cordelia? Willow; Maybe they met her?
My favourite though; Xander; I laugh in the face of danger. Then I hide until it goes away
Observations and questions; Presumably Amy mom dies properly when the school blows up and passes to the afterlife. Willow is already beginning to dress less nerdy. We see Giles' car for the first time, the Citreon whilst a design classic seems a weird choice for him, a classic Jag maybe more his style. Xander's Buffy obsession continues to grow. No Angel, you sometimes forget he's not in all the eps of season 1. At exactly what point do Amy and her mum swap bodies? Cordy hasn't passed her driving test yet but that changes by the end of the season 3/5

I'm actually watching it right now. I love watching the first season so new to the air so many weird things happening; = Cordy can't see, so why doesn't she break when driving the car... = The van about to hit Cordy is driving down the straight road for a fair while and doesn't even slow down. Are all people in SunnyD just willing to mow you down if you stand in the road? ...yes. It's Sunndyhale. It's the land of the dead. Where people mow you down if they see you in the road. ;D I enjoyed this episode. Looking back, first time they used the black eye to represent a Witch casting magic before S6. I never noticed Angel wasn't around. XD I love peppy Buffy. I completely forgot how bouncy Buff's hair was first season. And during this season, she perfected the head toss before speaking!!! rofl. I can't wait to see some more episodes next week.

This is one of my favs from the series, its in the top 50! haha and I love Buffy when she's hyper and when she's coming down whilst speaking to Xander Buffy: You’re my Xander-shaped friend. Do you have any idea why I love you so, Xander? Willow: (to Xander) We gotta get her to a… Xander: (to Willow) Let her speak. Buffy: (to Xander) I’ll tell you. You’re not like other boys at all. Xander: Well. Buffy: You are totally and completely one of the girls. (to Willow) I’m that comfy with him And this exact scene seems like a Karmic return for Xander's coming down on Willow not long before that: Xander: So I'm just a figure of fun. (exhales) I should ask her out, right? Willow: You won't know till you ask. Xander: That's why you're so cool! You're like a guy! You're my guy friend that knows about girl stuff! Willow: Oh, great. I'm a guy. Xander: Oh, hey, they're posting the list!

Another excellent episode from season 1 and the early days of Buffy. It's a great story bringing witchcraft and magic into the show. This is where Willow first saw it happen and saw that Giles had some power.
The one thing I've always wondered is what happened to the statuette when the school was destroyed. It would have been interestingto se what happened to Amy's mother after she transferred to it. The onlt other mention is when Oz mentions it to Willow!
