FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT HIS HOLY THIS SHOW IS F*CKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bought the first season 2 days ago, finished it in a day and bought seasons 2 and 3 and just finished them both... all i can say is wow... BEWARE: HIMYM NEWBIE SPEECH BELOWi also watched the premiere of season 4 and i read what happens in the rest of the season. My initial thoughts: i really do not enjoy the relationship of Barney and Robin. Robin is hilarious and my favorite. JW: you're definitely right, Ted is very Ross like. I did enjoy Alyson Hannigan's cleopatra haircut in the beginning of the 3rd season. Britney spears looked realllyyyyy pregnant when she was first on... that woman cannot act. Did anyone else laugh like a true fanboy when Alexis Denisof, Tom Lenk, Amy Acker, Morena Baccarin, and Harry Groener made appearances? two words: Robin. Sparkles.

I totally love Ross from friends and while I can see why people might make that comparison, I personally disagree!
Ross character is very much built around his intelligence but inability to deal with people, and constantly putting himself in akward and hilarious moments - with the greatest one-liners and facial expressions!
Ted on the other hand IS good in the social, he just has his basic issues dealing with romance and such, and his character is funny but not in the dry awkwardness of Ross.
I can see comparisons in palentologist to architect.. and the love/friend relationship with one of the other central cast members... but otherwise nothing really clicks for me?
ROBIN SPARKLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In what way did they model him do you think? well one of the things i found very ross like is that they both feel the need to correct people... and the Ted + Robin relationship is very Ross + Rachel-esque.

Ted = Ross points: They both are very intelligent, with failed careers that led them to become educators From Snizapman, the need to correct people Occasionally socially awkward (red cowboy boots anyone?) TERRIBLE luck in dating, hopeless romantics, and way too willing to rush into marriage Both had a failed wedding Both dated someone who lived/moved to Europe Are COLLEGE PROFESSORS and date someone they taught in class Robin/Rachel "girl he can never have but always want" syndrome (granted, this has now shifted to Barney, but was Ted originally) Both have ties to animals (Marcel and goat) Both have two male friends who get them into trouble, and also bail them out Those are just some from the top of my head.

i guess if i have to make parallels relationship-wise:
Ross - Ted Rachel - Robin Monica - Lily Chandler - Marshall Joey - Barney
monica/chandler and lily and marshall have been together throughout most of the series, first to get married.
and both Joey and Ross had a thing for Rachel and Ted and Barney had a thing for Robin...

Don't get me wrong, I like Ted better than occasionally weird-Ross, but I am constantly finding similarities when I watch. Also the fact that this is a show centering around a group of FRIENDS in New York who hang out at a local shop where they consume beverages and food and talk for a significant portion of screen time should not go overlooked. Oh, and remember that Friends gag where no one could remember Chandler's occupation? Yeah, that was never used in HIMYM.... or was it? ? lol

yes you are lucky to live in north america. well the whole american continent is lucky to be able to see this series.
i live in central america and i watch this tv show on cbs as well, at the same time as it airs in the US of A.
I love all the characters but the one that i kinda don't like that much is ted. He is a big crying baby.
alyson's hannigan character is the best! i wish they would do some meta episode mucking the high school years and they include the scooby gang in some way. It will bring the lol's.

I've been watching HIMYM for years now. I've grown to love it. I remember the first episode I saw was a halloween episode. Marshall was a pirate. It was priceless. I've been watching it with my parents ever since! Can't wait till next season! We'll have to see if anything real developes between Barney and Robin.

I've always thought that Barney and Robin were supposed to be married. Looking back now it doesn't seem as definitive as I previously thought, but the possibility is still ripe. I know Ted refers to her as "Aunt Robin" now, so their marriage would certainly satisfy that. I also remember them referring to Uncle Barney's wedding at Marshall and Lily's. I have real hopes that the two least-likely to settle down characters get married

just finished watching season 4... i hated the Robin + Barney ship... but now i love it... i'm sooo happy for them...
by the way: i loved how when Alyson Hannigan went on her maternity leave she stormed out because of a joke Barney told about peanut butter. "We didn't see Lily for four weeks..."
best. line. ever.

I found it really weird when old ted (who’s voice changed for whatever reason lol) was talking about Robins present to Lilly (at her hen’s night or whatever it was) a father should not talk to his teenage children about that.
