skins anyone? thank god for BBC America or I wouldn't be exposed to anything but Are you smarter than a 5th grader unfortunately it's edited but its something! I think its funny too that people from the UK think the show goes over Americans heads.

Skins revolves around the lives of a group of 16–19 year-old friends who live in Bristol. The Dawson Bros claim the series represents the everyday lives of adolescents. These characters attend the fictional Roundview Sixth Form College in Bristol. Each episode has a self-contained theme and focuses on each different character, however there are several story arcs that span different episodes. Accompanying the episode title at the beginning of each episode is a short few second montage of that episode's central character. The show's co-creator Bryan Elsley said that as series 2 ends with the cast going off to university, it will not be possible to keep on following them in the future, the show will operate in two year arcs with new casts.
Basically its the realistic teen show in a sea of Gossip Girls and 90210 2.0s

Skins is a fantastic tv show on channel 4 but it is only on in the UK. Based in England it is a very good show based around the lives of 16-19 year olds. They are in college/university and it is just all about there lives...Imagine Friends but not a comedy and it is about teenagers...soem drug ussage but it is mainly about the lives of the characters.

This show is one of the best Representatives of Teenagers in England. Not saying that all teens go out and do drugs and drink and have sex but hey alto do over here. Thats life. Maxxie was brilliant and Cassi awww love her! I was well bummed when it ended. Shame they have to get the new cast. It better be good.
I like how its pretty much so true to form and doesn't try to dumb down its target audience. What they do is pretty much alto of teenagers life's. I know my life well not as bad as that but still it has the same themes and crack to it. I hope they keep it on the same level like the last two, its Shamless but for teens and isnt full of dirty chavs so thats brilliant!

i liked the first series but think they should have ended it there as in my opinion the second one was so bad it lost credibility for the first one (for me anyway) It's so OTT and not a true representation of teenage life at all (or atleast not life in Bristol)- yes teenagers go out and have sex and go to gigs.. but everything else just felt so contrived.

hmm maybe its not the representation of most teenagers, but that was my life and most of my friends ARE those characters even now!
Its definitely not a show for everyone but I'm glad a few people enjoy it like me!

Series 3 premiered in the US on Thursday, BBC America. A little disappointing to be honest. The new cast just doesn't seem to have the draw that the old cast had. Since we just met these folks, I hope that it gets better.

Took me a while to get into series 3 after loving the first two series, but on the whole I ended up liking the new characters. Although I really don't like Cook and Effy. JJ's great

i hated a lot of characters in the first generation Michelle, Jal, Tony, Cassie in season 2 and Sketch Chris and Anwar (just cos he's so stupid) were probably my favourites along with Cassie in the beginning so because i didn't really care about the characters i prefer season 3 there's not actually a character i truly hate in there either Its definitely not a show for everyone but I'm glad a few people enjoy it like me! i dunno about America but every young person i know in the UK is a fan of Skins even some old

I really like Skins. I've seen the first two series, and from what I understand the third series doesn't come out on dvd in america until next year sometime. So I guess I have to wait, and I hope I enjoy season 3 as much as the first 2 seasons, even though I found Effy a bit annoying, at least at the beginning.

I miss Skins! The first seasons were better but then again...they didn't have Freddy. The show is also pretty accurate that's why I like it because I can identify with the characters except they have better clothes and live in a nicer area. Nearly everyone I know watches Skins everything else on tv like eastenders and stuff is crap! Also I think alot of Americans wouldn't identify with that lifestyle (no offence guys).

I just watched both season 1 and 2 but season 3 is not playing nor released in Australia. As far as I know our SBS network shows Skins (not sure about s3 yet though) and I've never seen it on, however I heard it was good from a friend of mine and bought the DVDs. I absolutely loved it. I've never really been exposed to any good UK drama before (big fan of the comedy but haven't seen much else) so it was very new and exciting for me! I don't care if it seems OTT to some people - I felt it had a very raw and honest quality that most US teen dramas fail to capture. I AM a fan of things like OC and Gossip Girl - but this show was a whole new level of teenage representation and it deserves to held in a different respect. Personally I liked s1 better than s2 - and I'm not sure if I like the finale - not knowing if Sid would find Cass, Jal not keeping the baby, Chris dying, Sketch (although I hated her) not having closure with Anwar, and very little Maxxie screentime in the second half of the season...plus I liked Tony better when he was a D!@k - in s2 he seemed to lose so much character and didn't have a very interesting story arc..! I think the heaviness of the subject matter and the hardcore reality of their lives IS an accurate perspective on some teens' experiences (In Australia as well as UK), I'm not saying that it's a majority of youth - or even that the show isn't dramatised - just that these stories ARE out there, and they are unacknowledged and ignored because people who live nice cushy lives or have a different experience of culture and socialisation aren't willing to accept that these worlds exist for other people, and that they really are that bad (and worse!). I can't wait for s3 to make it down under, I didn't like Effy at first but warmed up to her in s2, and I think seeing more of her life will be exciting and interesting IMO...

This week's episode that aired on BBC America "Thomas" was the best ep of series 3 so far in my opinion. After the first 2 episodes I was left a bit empty; the show did not seem to have the heart that it had before. This episode brought that back, showing that amongst the partying and troublemaking, there is more of a story here with these kids. Thomas' story had some substance. My biggest issue was That it doesn't seem like we will see Thomas again.
