Please post here if you would like to volunteer for our Watcher program! Final note: this isn't a moderator position, so you will not get extra capabilities forum wise. But I am making a neat little badge for volunteers to have for their signatures. It's the least I can do. ----------------------------------------------- Guideline and Rules;*As a SlayAlive Watcher, you would be charged with adopting new members if they would like a little mentoring when they join the site. It's a great way to make new ones feel welcome, and learn the ropes here at the forum. Really, the job is to simply be a positive and encouraging friend to a new member and to give some time to the forum as a volunteer. *Watchers may take on up to 5 newbies at once with a level of fairness and distribution of watchees. *If a newbie requests a Watcher, and there is no reply for 24 hours, ANY Watcher can take the watchee. Even if they already have one. *ONLY one watcher per newbie thread. *Allow a 3 week waiting period for a watcher to watchee bond, if no reply from watchee, please communicate. *If you can let the council know of yourself being unavilable or no longer interested please do. *Watchee feedback can be posted here[/u][/url] *If you wish to use a pre-made Secret Scoobie - tastic badge check in the spoiler; Current watchers who are taking on newbies!- DrusillaCakes. - Billie Erin. - Miss Rogueh. - Moon Eyes. - Tabularasa. (council member) - VampSlayer. - Eric. - Applications currently pending.

I would like to apply for a position! I think not only welcoming but actually bringing new members into the SlayAlive community will be very beneficial for the forum, and hopefully will help new members feel confident and comfortable in the posting environment.
This will be particularly useful for members who may not have used may forums before, or are shy when making new friends. But of course other users will also hopefully enjoy the services of having a watcher for support if needed!
Great Idea!

Sounds great, so we have seven Watchers! Sweet, now all we need are some newbies for you to 'watch'...
We've had ten new people in the last three days, let's hope a couple would like to have fun with us!

Maybe put it as a sub-board in the introduction board? That way if newbies are posting their intro threads, they may see the board easier?

Maybe put it as a sub-board in the introduction board? That way if newbies are posting their intro threads, they may see the board easier? I thought about that, hardcore. For like an hour, LOL. But I figure it's even more noticeable simply off the main page.

Mainpage yes, but "Watchers' Headquarters" doesn't scream "New kids click here"
Perhaps as a subboard in the introboard would be good, and have a description with something like "New here? Take part in our buddy system!!"

lol. That might turn people away Perhaps a side banner to advertise? I can't think of a succinct message to put on a little banner to point new ones this way

Board's been moved, and changes are being made to the description.
But if 'Watcher's HQ' isn't open sounding...What is?

I'd say something like academy, but that's the name of our RPG!
Hrm...
edit: I like the "Get a Watcher". I think that works.

Has there still be no newbies requesting to be watched yet? Maybe new members can be PMed or sumthing? *Raz facepalms Ryan* As apart of the welcoming PM sent to every newbie, we do include a note about it, don't forget we get a lot of people sign-up and never come back *dramatically screams WHY!!!* But anyway it has been open for only a week, we had about 14 new members, I know cos I was welcoming people, from those 14, I had 2 replies to the welcome message, one saying thanks and that there were forum-savvy and the other also saying thanks. Im not even a welcomer and even I noticed the amount of members who don't even post. Why would they waste there time making an account if the are not going to use it?

Some people like to lurk. And I don't think it helps when there's a rabid crowd of hungry forum veterans waiting for newbs to post in the intro board.
When I first started, I didn't even post in the intro board.
