Joss speaks! Click Here!
"What do you think about this Buffy movie they're making without you? JOSS WHEDON: I hope it's cool."Well... seems like his sarcastic humor. Hopefully he elaborates more in the future. Let's hope this is sarcasm and that he actually cares about this issue. It's important to fans all around the world!

The fact he's being so flippant about it means he's not worried, I think. I'm guessing he's already been on the phone with Fox.

OMG, I JUST found out about this.... And this was my face while reading the article. ARTICLE: "...'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' could be coming to the big screen." ME: Oh! =D ARTICLE: "'Buffy' creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio"ME: Oh. =| ARTICLE: "The new 'Buffy' film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike."ME: Oh... =\ Then I re-read the article.... ARTICLE: "[Fran Rubel Kuzui] developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox."ME:

Petition: www.petitiononline.com/nbmwjw/petition.htmlTo: Vertigo Entertainment & Fran Rubel KuzuiDear Fran Rubel Kuzui and Vertigo Entertainment, It has come to our attention that you are in the beginning stages of planning a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie with the hopes of launching a new franchise to go along with it. It is our understanding that this movie will have nothing to do with the cast of characters from the TV we have come to love, and most importantly, nothing to do with Joss Whedon, creator and master himself. The reason the Buffyverse has remained so successful throughout the years is due to Joss's ability to execute his vision through intricate storytelling and carefully developed characters. The premise of Buffy - whether the TV incarnation, comics present or future, or any movie - cannot stand alone without his direct, hands on involvement. This was proven to the world in 1992 and will be proven again should you choose to continue in this manner. The proposed disregard of the current franchise is disrespectful to BtVS/Angel and everyone involved, from Whedon to the cast and crew right down to the fans. We would like to take this opportunity to official state that we do not support any incarnation of Buffy that is not done expressly how Joss Whedon wants it to be done. Not only do we oppose your intentions, but should you choose to continue without him, we will boycott and fight against it every step of the way. None of us may be in the direct position to stop you, but we are many, and Joss and our Buffy have taught us what a good fight takes. Sincerely, The Undersigned SIGN NOW!Phil, could you add this to the OP?

I'll be mighty surprised if this ever goes ahead.
I'm not totally sure on the rights issues but I'd always thought that 20th Century Fox owned all the rights to Buffy. Period. I thought that the Kazuis were involved (in name only) with the tv series due to contractural rights held over from the film. Basically they get to take a slice of any Buffy tv and film product. It doesn't seem that they have any hand in the comics and books as I guess they are seperate legal entities. But maybe under their contractural agreements they do have some rights over Buffy as a film entity. These things can be very messy. The Bond franchise was tied up in court for years in the early nineties over arguments as to who owned what film rights.
And to those who say that Buffy is bigger than Joss, I say that's wrong. Everything great about Buffy begins and ends with Joss Whedon. She is his baby. She represents his vision of the world and his unique style of storytelling. That's why I love Buffy. Because of Joss and his team of writers and actors. Without him, what's the point? It might still be a decent enough film in its own right, but it wouldn't be Buffy. It will just be some girl killing some vampires and monsters. Big deal. You can see that in lots of films nowadays...thanks to Buffy and Joss.

I think a petition is giving it more attention than it deserves lol.
It'd be really ironic though if it ended up being a really awesome movie.
I say...let them make it. If it sucks, everyone will know it sucks. If it's good, maybe we can enjoy it as a separate series.

I walked in the door from school and the story was the first thing I read.
#EPIC. #FUCKING. #FAIL.
It's like they ENJOY twisting the knife in Joss' heart. What the hell is wrong with these people? It's hard enough trying to ignore their names on every episode, when they actually forced it on there, when they actually get royalties for what amounts to highway robbery. It's bad enough knowing how they ripped Joss off when he was so wet behind the ears, then proceeded to hack his dreams to pieces. And NOW, this?? What kind of special crack are the Kuzuis smoking? Is it their goal in life to ride on his coat tails if they can't dog his success or kick the shit out of his most personal project?
I don't get it. I seriously do. not. get it.
And to add misery to the salt in the wound, they're all about calling this a 'reboot', as if it's gonna be hot property and well-received by the fans, a la Star Trek. This just further reinforces the fact that they have arrived at a level of Need-A-Fucking-Clue-Land that they previously hadn't reached before.
Dammit. Sigh. Cursing doesn't even help.

Petition has been added to the first post. Might as well let them know how the fans feel about it, even though they'll probably just ignore it anyway. I'm not sure how serious people are about a boycott though? The calls to rally may just be a kneejerk reaction thing. However, it'll be interesting to see if fans will actually stick to their guns, if this entire hubbub is not some kind of sadistic hoax.
