I too love Firefly and Serenity - but then I was 13 when the original Star Trek series started on TV (and in colour - cool).
So, being raised on SF - I love the details that Joss has got so right - you can't hear any sounds in space - so you go from a scene inside the ship with all the engine and rackity background noises to the silence of space.
joss's writing is tight. There are no aliens in this future universe - every bad guy is human - great storytelling.
Browncoats are a force to be reckoned with - I'd say as powerful as the Buffyforce.
I found all of them - Buffy, Angel and Firefly - after their series were cancelled. So I have the DVD's. Have watched all three series at least 20 times each. And, now have Dollhouse - thankfully I am watching it while it is still running new episodes. I finally caught the Joss train.

I finally caught the Joss train. i was just thinking earlier today that i'm so glad there's a Whedon show currently on air. i became a Joss fan after all of Buffy, Angel and Firefly had aired and i'm so pleased i get to experience the cancellation scares. and then the happy times when a season 2 is confirmed!

Which of course did NOT happen after Angel was canceled after only one season in W&H and Firefly was canceled before it could even get a full season out. But there is always hope!

I know i might sound like a heretic but Firefly is actually my favorite Whedon show i mean don't get me wrong i adore Buffy and Angel (pretty much all of his shows, yet to see Dr Horrible) but in firefly the music and setting really drew me in and the camera angles they used in it actually (for me) gave the show a hint of realism, i was disappointed when i found out there were only a few episodes of it made.

I only discovered Firefly recently, and it's my new favorite. I think because I have such a short attention span, it's easier for me to get into this series just due to the number of episodes.
I think the key to getting into Firefly is to have no expectations. Just get swept away with it. I know when someone told me the genre is something like "space western" I thought, "Wow, I'm really not going to like this." For me anyway, I thought it picked up really well after the first couple of episodes-- right around "Shindig."

I threw Firefly out of my DVD player when Dollhouse arrived, just in the middle of Bushwhacked, which bored me to tears. Firefly will have to wait some more till I give it another try. I don't know what it is, but I don't get swept away, even though I like the idea of combining Western and SF and I just LOVE the soundtrack. None of the characters interests me even remotely. What is it with me?

For a lot of people the show only really picks up around episode 3-4

FivebyFive I must admit you are not alone... I have suffered though all of Firefly and the movie... I just didn't get it... It drops you in the middle of an ongoing story and tries to sweep you away but well... I was just not swept... I have tried to watch it many times over but I just can't get into it... Love me or hate me its how I feel...

I know I am going to catch some flak for this, but I am on the opposite side. I think Buffy/Angel/Firefly are fantastic but I cannot for the life of me get even the slightest bit interested in Dollhouse. And I watched every episode last season to give it a fair shot. It does nothing for me.

I liked the show I wouldn't say I love it, but it did have it's moments. For me so far nothing has been able to top BTVS and Angel. I'll also have to agree with timmy57 about Dollhouse though I'm going to give it another shot when season two premiere. I kind of haven't got into it yet. I watched the first season on and off.

In all honesty I've never seen Firefly/Serenity. But I plan to! Eventually...

The more I think about Dollhouse the less into it I realize I am. The more I think about Firefly the more longing I have for it to suddenly continue. I definitely don't hate Dollhouse, or think it's the worst thing ever, but when I rewatch episodes and think about storylines and all that stuff, I'm kinda disappointed in the storyline and stuff. =[

personally it took me forever to get into firefly. loved serenity the movie.. absolutely adored it. but the series took me awhile to get into it. however i have to say that jaynestown (ep6) is absolutely hilarious but the episodes i love just due to the nature of them are out of gas (ep7) and objects in space (ep13). those two are fantastic episodes
