The Powers seem to be MIA since "Not Fade Away". I am sure there is some reason for this it being Hell and all.

As things go, Angel not being a vampire feels like a cheap shot, and I'm not convinced that Lynch has the chops to pull it off.

Mr. Shark made me smile. The end made me yell out "Holy F%&^!" in a store full of children. It was great.

I think there are going to be lots of twists and turns in this new Angel not a vamp any more. I'm not convinced at all that he's properly human (or human at all) and not sure Shanshu has come to pass. This is some W&H trick or some deal Angel's done witht them This is very exciting though, can't wait to see how this one unfolds - I'm sure they won't disappoint us

Did anyone else read the letters column? Erin has a letter there - good going Erin - actually having your letter being selected is an accomplishment. Wonderful promo for SlayAlive. Kudos to Erin for the great letter.

Great issue! I picked up the cover by Uruu with Angel and Illyria on the front cause it looks cooler. Really good issue and what a shocking ending! Angel NOT A VAMPIRE! I loved Illyria's scenes with Angel and the dragon. Spike and Connor on the same side and working together? Nice twist. Was that Teeth the loan shark demon from Tabula Rasa? If so, how COOL! Although I don't really understand what all those time-loops were. I thought that Illyria had lost all her powers in Time Bomb? Also if Angel was already shanshued then why in issue #1 did i notice the following: Angel: Do I feel "it"? This thing is alive? Wesley: Something in the room should be. This implies that Angel was still a vampire in issue #1 doesn't it? Overall, GREAT issue and I can't wait for issue #4! I'm now gonna go watch Angel cause I bought the complete series on DVD today!

Although I don't really understand what all those time-loops were. I thought that Illyria had lost all her powers in Time Bomb? Read over the first few pages again... it's explained in Angel's thought-boxes Remember, Wesley died and was brought back as a ghost of some sort. So he could be referring to Angel as being alive. I loved this issue. Like CBG said, it's starting to take off now. I need to re-read all three issues now that we've been told that Angel is no longer a vampire! He might not be a mortal human, though. He only said he wasn't a vampire.

I just picked up my copy (a week late, I know). All I can say is... wow. I screamed out loud at the final page and freaked my roomie out. I really really need to get the first two issues back from my mom so I can reread the whole thing. I think I missed some things that are causing confusion here. (btw, this is my first post)

Thanks Rogue. I understand about Illyria's time-slipping powers and hell affecting them. I think that Wesley was referring to the creature healing Angel when he said that something in the room should be. He was implying that he's a ghost and Angel is undead. At least that's what I thought.

Listen to Brian's Q&A on MySpace. He doesn't give away much, but gives you some things to think on. Especially about the time shifting and Wesley.

I know! Much to think about now. Most of the good stuff is at the end.
I'll give it another listen, come up with some discussion topics...

Best Angel issue yet. I was watching 'not fade away' last ight to give me ideas for the next Angel cover comp and I think Hamilton gives away a few clues. He says that wolfram and hearts ancient power flows through his veins, it's in his blood. then angel bites him. So now Angel has acient power flowing through his veins maybe thats why he still has his strength. Also my theory, if Angel has now contaminated his blood the contract he signed is now not in his blood and therefore void. Thats how he still got to be human. what do ya think?

That's definitely a possibility, I think. That sounds like something Joss would do, too.

Yeah that makes alot of sense.
I also had some stupid theory that Angel signed his Shanshu away "Angel" and not "Angelus", so maybe he doesn't have his soul and Angel is just climbing his way up to become a demon Lord. But even I thought that sounded stupid.

Angel hasn't done anything superhuman. I've actually broken this down panel by panel. It's all smoke and mirrors. Bottom line -- he hasn't done *anything* in physical strength or endurance that we haven't seen human characters do.
Which makes sense because he's... human.
Brian might not have meant to, but he tacitly confirmed this in the podcast. He and Jordy were discussing how they asked for the fake "gameface" sketch of Angel in November because someone had figured out that he was *human*. And that whoever came up with that was 'pretty smart'.
So, either he's definitely a human, or we'll get a lot of backpedalling in the next podcast.
And, really, Angel having become human is a way better story than some new and unprecedented form of superbeing.

I sure hope there's a lot of explanation. Because at this point I'm *so* not okay with Angel being human. Which is funny, because that's something I've always wanted!

The resistance to Angel being human mystifies me. I *love* this concept. Wasn't a reward after all, just a thing that might happen, and now he's stuck trying to do the work he was doing as a vampire under even worse circumstances, and having to maintain that secret? That's great stuff.
It also fits with what Brian described pitching it to Joss was like -- thinking he'd get shot down and instead Joss thinking it was brilliant.
