Great issue. My favorite part was Spike's. I was pretty surprised when Fred made an appearance, but it explains why Spike's kept so close to Illyria.

Loved Spike's story (Fred is my favourite character so anything that has her in it, no matter how vague, I'm all over it) and Lorne's was fun to read but the one I found most interesting is Conner's. He was completely messed up throughout most of the show, but that was because of all the crap that happened to him, to see him grow up under a pleasant enviroment and see the man he really is, is brilliant. He is turning into a character I really like now which is a huge contrast to the hate I felt during season 4 ... bring on issue 7! And er.. I'm going crazy waiting for the continuation of the main story.. FREDIKINS! =)

Pretty good issue. I really liked the Lorne story, the poem was hilarious! Reminded me of one of Whedon's story "Righteous" in Tales of the Slayers which uses the same style, only not quite so funny. If Lynch is reading this, how long did it take and how difficult was it to come up with all those rhymes?
The other story's were good, but I thought Connor already remembered his ex-life after "Origins", just not *everything* I guess?
Look forward to #7, I assume its in early May, and not in 2 weeks again?

And Spike saying something to the effect of "screw you Dawn!" and then hoping it wasn't taken out of context was pure awesomeness. Yeah, that was just awesome. Great issue, I'm looking forward to see how the Connor story ends.

I loved the Spike/Fred/Illyria chapter. The Connor one was great too. I don't know if I like the Lorne one though. It was ok but it was nothing that caught my attention.
The only part that confused me, is I don't know how Connor "remembered" I thought he already did back in season 5.

And the pull-out poster was a nice bonus feature too!

I absolutely loved this issue. Each one was captivating in their own way.
Spike: - I just loved how happy he was to think he was just going to be able to walk away from HelL.A., only to jump right back into the fray. Plus I did not expect to see Fred appear so soon either. What was with that ring of fire around her? It seems like it really is Fred now, and not just Illyria shifting forms. I also loved how the first thing she said was "Wesley." That was sweet. Can't wait until Spike: After the Fall.
Connor: - I was rather blown away by this part. If I read it right, then I take it Connor now remembers absolutely everything that has happened to him? Even all the way back in Darla's womb? If so then that is pretty major, and just makes this son of two vampire's even weirder. What a nice little twist to Connor's character. I loved it.
Lorne: I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I loved the art, loved the poem/song whatever it was. And what was up with that beaming white Sorceress at the end? Who the heck was she? Will she play a role in de-Helling HelL.A.? Can't wait to find out.
This was my second favorite issue after #5, although this one is a close second.

My money's (unfortunately) on Cordy for the "mystery character." I just feel like her arc--and her HAIR--was totally played out by season 4 of Angel. I never bought Angel/Cordelia as a 'ship, and the whole Jasmine/Connor thing...UGH. The only good part of that whole debacle was seeing Fred kick some serious ass toward the end of the season. Cordelia = bor-ing. But I guess if that's the (narrative) price I'd have to pay to have Fred back in some form...I'd forgive Brian and Joss. Just this once. But they've gotta keep Illyria, too. Somehow.
Arghghg. Brain. Hurts...

I agree with Wyndam. Connor's memory is total, which is great because he can now remember how much Angel loved him as a baby. Really how much does anyone remember before age 3 or 4? I love how Connor's memory restoration changed Angel from #2 dad to #1...hmmm Angel should get a #1 dad mug from Connor. It'd be hilarious if that was in the background of a future issue somewhere.
My favorite story thread was Spike/Fred/Illyria's. The art was just fabulous and the writing resonated like this perfect lyrical note hitting you in the gut. Familiar and true. The panel of Spike where he says "Damn it. I seriously don't know." - it just looks AMAZING. This part of the story came alive for me, pulling me in instead of me forcing my imagination to kickstart it.
Lynch's writing of Spike captures his character. How perfect is Spike's reaction to being in hell, that he gives dawn (not that Dawn! lol) the finger and basically throws himself into owning his existence. No despair, just acceptance of what he's accomplished until he's dragged back into the fight. Protecting others.
I got WatG 2 and Angel ATF 6 on the same day, and I keep going back and rereading 'First Night'. I'm very impressed with this issue and looking forward to more.

Enjoyed the issue mostly, particularly Lorne and Spike's bits, but felt like each vignette could've gone on for a little longer... I understand there are space restrictions, but--we also still have what, 2 more issues of this? Seems like maybe spacing could have been reapportioned a little. Maybe leave out the Betta George stuff at the end (to have in a later issue) to give the Connor and Spike stories another page or two. These are very "blink and you miss it" kind of stories--just sort of whetting the appetite and then leaving us unsated. Compare to, say, last issue, where on one hand sure, the cliffhanger left me wondering more, but at the same time it was a very satisfying issue all by itself. This issue just feels like a blip of something that should be so much more. But it was good to see what I saw--gives a little more insight on what's been going on w/ the characters which is always a good thing. Art was overall good and I liked the different styles for each character. Specially liked Spike's art, I think. Was the gal who was crowning Lorne supposed to look like Veronica from Archie Comics, or was that just coincidence?

Ive not re read it like i usually do with S8 and S6. But i wasnt impressed with WatG or this angel issue. I was expecting first night to be epic, and was left feeling a bit let down, maybe if read with the following issue(s?) it may all fit together to make a nice 2/3 comic read. My favourite in both story and the way the story was told was lorne. Love the idea, and the artwork/poem thing reminded me of tales of the slayers.

I loved Issue #6! It really set things up nicely for that first night for Spike, Connor and Lorne in Hell. And also gave us a nice narration and a bit of back-story from Betta George. I hope he doesn't get hurt by that thug copycat vamp. The Spike section was well drawn. Spike's likeness was pretty amazing in some panels. I loved the way he reacted to being in Hell. "Screwn you Dawn!" nice Buffy reference there. The Illyria transforming into Fred thing kinda confirmed that it is not really Fred we are seeing in Issue #5. Spike saving those 2 women was very noble of him. And his "I was retired, but to tell you the truth, it got borgin after a while" cracked me up cause he had just retired 2 minutes ago. The lift part was good too. The Connor part was cool, with him running around L.A not knowing whether to run away from the chaos or to go and help. Then all the memories came back. And he remembered a bit too much, probably the affects of Hell doing this to him. He got the memories back in 'Origin' but Hell has caused it ALL to come flooding back all at once. No wonder he threw up. I wonder what will happen next with those demons. Lorne's story was just fabulous! Very in-character with Lorne. Loved the rhyming and the silly art style. His story was cool, how he became a Lord and everything, it was down to his singing powers. Also, Silverlake is protected in a bubble that the Sorceress put up? That explains why it's so clean and normal-ish! Cool! Great stories and I can't wait for part 2!

The Illyria transforming into Fred thing kinda confirmed that it is not really Fred we are seeing in Issue #5. Are you sure about that? I think #6 pretty much confirmed that Fred is alive and well inside Illyria. Other words, the "Fred" we saw talking to Spike was just Illyria in Fred's form? I don't think so. She wouldn't have spoken like that. Whatever has happened, I think it is clear that Fred and Illyria are sharing the same body, and how that happened, well I guess we will find out later.

I loved the whole issue, but especially the Lorne part. Someone earlier criticized it, and said the rhyming was very "un-Angel". Well, yeah, but it's not un-Lorne, and since that's who this story was about, it fit him perfectly--and I imagine was probably even tougher to write, so big extra props to Brian on that one! So, since the cover we thought was for #8 is actually the #7 variant, when are we gonna get the #8 cover?

Issue was great! I found Spike's story the best in the issue. Connor's was good too, I think that I am starting to come around about Connor. He's not so bad after all!

I, too, really enjoyed this comic, but I must admit it did feel a little disjointed; I suspect that's what they're going for, though. The family has been broken apart, and each of them is living with a different role and burden, all seeing the world in a their own way. The three different artists for each vignette added to this theme and gave it all an added dimension and perspective. It was hard, though, seeing Beta George drawn by someone other than Urru! I was there at the comic shop for Asylum, so seeing someone else is a little heart breaking.
I was confused by how Spike's story started: Was he recapping in his mind what had happened, or did WH literally pull him out of the fight and heal his wounds? If so, that's confusing, but not out of character for WH. Spike'll be getting his turn at the mic soon enough, so maybe some 'effulgent' light will be shed on his story then.
Two thumbs up.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's just Illyria taking on Fred's personality. Illyria said herself that memories and what not of Fred has channeled into her function system when Fred's brain collapsed, so she has Fred's personality and can remember Fred's life. And remember 'Not Fade Away' when Wesley was dying in her arms and she transformed into Fred and got all emotional in Fred's form? I think that being in Hell has just taken this ability to the next level, like it has with her other powers that we thought she had lost.
