Why exactly did they keep Wesley's body?

Wes explained that himself -- he thought he needed it for any ritual he might be able to do to free himself from W&H.
My best guess as to where they took his body would be Wes' old apartment. It's the only other sensible place I can think of.

I've been wondering the same thing - where is Wes' body being kept? Would Wes' apartment be safe enough to keep his body there?
The only other supernaturally safe option that comes to mind is the otherworldly space underneath the Post Office that gives access to the dead oracles.

I wasn't able to get my copy of #9 until yesterday so I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never.
I really loved this issue. I should have known Angel wouldn't have gone into battle without a plan. Angel, Spike & Groo jumping in to defend Fred, Gunn's mystery agenda, Gwen's X-men reference, Lorne being Angel's public relations guy, finally getting some explanation on Spider, and of course the return to the Hyperion. There were just so many wonderful moments and so far this is my favorite issue, writing wise.
The really big thing in this issue for me, outside the Big Bad Guy explosion, was the Illyria/Fred story. Previously when Illyria had taken Fred's form she did so either out of choice or because she was seemingly being driven insane and her individuality was mixing with Fred's memories...but this issue changed that. It's been implied that Fred still exists, that she is an opposing force within Illyria and the two have been struggling for dominance. I truly hope this story is explored further because I like the idea of Fred still being around, but now having a kick ass demigoddess as a split personality.
My only complaint is the art. It has nothing to do with Franco being gone or the characters not looking like the actors. It just that the art looked rushed, proportions were off, Fred looked like a man in a couple of panels and the coloring as others have mentioned was on the dull side in comparison to past issues. I'm very forgiving and this in no way kept me from enjoying the issue. I'm looking forward to seeing what Nick Runge has in store for us. His art is different but I see potential in it. I'm sure with more time he'll dazzle us.

The Illyria/Fred situation is starting to remind me of Ben and Glory.

Lets hope she dosnt switch sides, If that does happen then I can see Wesley being the one that has to kill her, whilst killing Fred at the same time. It would be a very Joss thing to do. Unless he changes his mind this time and lets Wes and Fred come back to life, they move in together and then get married and have lots of Baby Burkles and Mini Wesley's.

I am late to the party as I haven't been able to log in lately, and I'm sure no one at this point wants to read one more review, but it's on my mind, so here goes. Enjoy.
Well, actually, it appears my opinion is going to be unpopular anyway: I really didn't enjoy this issue much at all. After all that waiting First Night, I was expecting a real blowout of revelations and butt-whupping, and the issue tried, I can tell it really did, but it just didn't do it for me.
Storywise, we ended several issues ago with the big Fred reveal.... and then it doesn't really much go anywhere. We see everyone get protective over Fred--nothing new, although Fred (let ALONE Illyria) should be annoyed by this, as she often is. Fred appears, BOOM! And then doesn't really do anything except look confused in the back of several panels. The Fred I remember has fast wits and would either get out of the way, or grab a crossbow and try to help.
Of course, I understand, this is the middle of a big battle. Not a good time for grand revelations and moreover explanations and character development. I think just the cut back away from Fred to the rest of the action was a disappointment after such a huge buildup.
The battle was greatly disserviced by the art--it was confusing, and--I am a veteran comic reader of many years, mind you--I had to read it over several times to get a sense of the action. I couldn't even figure out the first time what Angel was doing with the Hagan shafts. Made sense the second time through, and I like seeing what Angel's plan was. But again, came off with a lot of buildup and the payoff was "bippity-boppity-boo." Huh.
The best part of the issue was the further revelations of Gunn and his plans, and I really like the characterization of Vamp Gunn. Odd that this is becoming the key part of what I'm looking forward to, as I've never been a huge Gunn fan.
Also happy to see the Hyperion again. I really felt I had gone home, let alone the gang.
And then to Frillyria and Wesley. I don't see much of Fred in Frillyria at all. If Fred's dazed and confused and crazy, then she should be babbling her head off, writing on walls, and trying to make sense of the situation. Her "voice" even in "Fred form" is still very much Illyria's slow, intentional way of speaking, so it's hard to see how "Fred's pushing her way through" when I don't feel like I've really seen the character yet.
And a HUGE question goes unanswered, and I am afraid it may remain so: Fred's full memories were restored in Season 5 when Wesley smashed the glowy box. So she now remembers Wesley's betrayal and Lilah and so on. And I vaguely recall she was pretty upset by that.... so does that affect her opinion of Wesley now?
But then... that's the interesting thing... because ultimately, Fred may pop up when she sees Wesley... but when it comes to wanting to protect and take care of Wesley, it's Illyria who resurfaces. That is a characterization point I'm interested to see as it develops.
But all in all, not a strong issue for me. It was definitely a poor-standalone issue--the climax is a few pages in and then it's a bunch of conversation for awhile. The flow seemed really off for me and I hope we see the narrative arc restrengthen itself in subsequent issues.
As for the art, Runge's pencils might get better, but he needs to STOP using stills as models for the characters and just get his own interpretation going.
We need to get rid of Cooper's (?) inks VERY much. The inks were very inconsistent--washed out one minute, too hard the next. That might help Runge's work look much better on its own.
And while I wasn't a fan of the too-shiny coloring before, the too washed out coloring isn't helpful either. Can we get an inbetween, please?

i really liked this issue... the best one so far... the only thing i didn't like was, that now i'm hoping cordelia would appear maybe she would be fire from goddess duty loved frillyria and wesley.... but the hyperion, like the guy above said, really felt like home... when i saw i felt like i was going back home after a LOOOOOONNNNGGGGGGG time off... good issue (the ink sucked) but Best Issue so far...

Great issue. Possibly my fave yet...but with every new issue I say that!
So much good stuff here:
All the Angel/Spike stuff - hilarious as always How Gunn is so obviously proud of Angel The Connor speech as the Lords are glowing - Connor/Gwen - go Connor! Uncle Spike -ha! Gunn's continuing coolness Lorne as Lord of LA!
The Hyperion - I cheered when I read that. So happy. Where they never should have left, and where they belong.Looking forward to seeing more of it in the next few issues.
Angel's tricking of Spike - perfect!
The whole Wesley/Fred/Illyria scene. Most emotional scene yet, just ahead of Angel realising he was human in Issue 4 flashback. I had tears in my eyes at the end. Perfect.
The art - I will give it another issue before I totally comment. But I do love the likenesses, and there is a lot of good stuff there. Just need more detail in the background and better colours.

I think Issue #9 and the comic before it are very good, but gunn is getting on my nerves, ok he was turned to a vamp. if he wouldn't have been turned, he would have been eaten by one of those demons during the battle....and whats the resentment he has towards angel?..I think the idea of Illyria/Fred, is good, but I still miss my little fred with her querkiness, and to me the series isnt the same without cordy. Her smart ass remarks and her courage really kept angel grounded and made him realize he needs to fight the good fight and set things straight, and yes, he turned LA to hell, but remember, it was all because he got a vision from the powers.
Wesley, I think hes trying to break out of WR&H's clutchs but he can't cause they know his every move. He will probably find a way to escape from their power, but nothing is gonna bring him back, and if he is brought back, he won't be a human.
Cordelia was a human BUT she was turned into a half demon in the episode "Birthday" in season 3 so she could be able to handle the visions and live to fight another day.
Lorne, I kinda find it funny that hes a semi-lord, being that he didn't want anything to do with angel...but killing lindsey kinda turned him to be alil more bold and it shows how much he really cares about the gang, he did round them up so they can help angel in the battle of the lords for LA.
Conner, I was sooo happy to see that they brought Kate back, even tho she was only seen in the Conner spotlight, but it shows that maybe theres a future with her in the angel comic series. I just hope that Conner learns to keep it in his pants this time.
Gwen, I can't stress how much I love her character, She has the total potential to be a regular in the series. Her power can help angel and the gang in many ways. Same with Nina. But I still stand strong against my first thought. Without Cordelia, Angel is not the same. I still love and will continue to read Angel: After the Fall, but I would sooo love it if cordelia came back into the fight. :vampirebite:

I really dont think Illyria will turn on the gang, in fact, I think she will actually come to terms with the goodness inside her, and fight the good fight more often without lashing and wanting to kill angel

Hey, can anyone explain something to me. Connor 'remembers' everything. That happened when LA was turned into HellA, right? So what happened when the glowy ball was smashed in season 5, i thought THAT brought back his memories of everything.....

I know I'm extremely delayed, but I finally got this issue today. And it's such a fantastic re-introduction to the main story, after waiting so long for it to be released. The Hagan shaft's killing the Lords was brilliant I think. And at the hands of the Loan Shark, him being sneaky and a dealer and all was just brilliance. The return of Fred wasn't explained but hopefully will be in future issues. I loved the big battle feel to the issue much like issue #5. The Hyperion was great to see again and I'm glad that's where our gang will be again now. I also loved the last panels with the exchange of Wesley and Illyria/Fred at Wesley's body, where Illyria got emotional over him. I feel sorry for Illyria because she must feel so torn with Fred's feelings and hers mixing. Much like when Wesley died in her arms in 'Not Fade Away'. Anyway, a brilliant issue, and now to go and read issue #10.

Did anyone get the Gunn and Gwen cover? I checked both of my local comic book shops but they didn't have it. I always get both of the Buffy covers for season 8 and sometimes 2 for After The Fall, at the begining I only got 1 but the covers are getting a lot better and I pick up both now.

You mean the Angel Interaction cover for #8? You can't find those in regular comic shops.
