Amazon is a joke, I'm still waiting for my book to be sent. EDIT: Sigh. Another email from them, expected delivery july 29th - aug 14th. Cancelling that, what a waste of time. Sorry, man.

My comic store still hasn't got this in yet! I hope it comes in tomorrow with the shipment of comics for this week! If not I will have to start calling around to the book stores in my area, which I hate to do cause it takes sales away from the awesome guys at my comic store!

I got the book today. Beautiful, looks great on the shelf. I do wish there were a few script notes about the last issue, but the Issue One pitch was awesome to see.

Wow got mine today and totally love the cover choice. I am so happy they remembered my chess concept for #11 which was missed from the last hard back, no one believes me when i say that was my idea as they covered my name up with the barcode on the single issue, so very happy. (yay)

I got my copy today and I am nearly too excited to open it. It looks beautiful though, lying there on my table. I feel like not working. Maybe I should call it an early day. *Sigh*

I got mine yesturday. It's fantastic, and goes surprisingly well with the other books despite it's colour. SO nice to have the full set, and I can finally read the entire story heh. [edit] 2 mistakes did slip through into the final printing though lawl
Looking back on the whole series, it was a hell of a ride. Some brilliant twists and character moments that lead into the perfect "Angel" conclusion. I was so very against this series when I first heard. I thought Not Fade Away was the only way the show could tie up, but After the Fall ends on such a beautiful note that I'm totally converted. I've heard objections to the "reset" ending, but I think it functions perfectly as a finale as a step forward and a nod to the series. "Back to normal... But not really" echoes thoughout the end pages so well, it's brilliant. Life is resumed but EVERYONE is different. Angel's entire life has been flipped on its head, and he responds by doing what he always did: Help people. It's a great note to end on.
I do have a few criticisms...
I didn't really buy into Connor and Gwen love. Seemed a bit unneccessary and entirely underbaked. I found the declarations of love hard to swallow cause I hadn't really ever seen them feel that way. I think it could have been dropped, and you wouldn't miss it. There were a lot of criticisms for the amount of returning characters in the series, but I was happy to see them all, and happy with what they provided ... Except for Nina. I thought she was pretty redundant throughout, in fact, she didn't even provide a basic scene filling service very often; the slayer extras got that job. I'm still not entirely sure of Wesley's purpose in all of this. From an evil perspective that is. Why was he vital again? And finally, the "voice" of W+H in the last few issues was a bit limp and chatty. Lynch nails the quirky dialogue, but coming from the voice of an omnipitant evil, it all seemed a bit lame. I think Wesley could have been used more effectively as a creepy vessel of evil's soundbites, which would have given him more to do also.
All in all though. AtF is awesome.

I should get this today! I ordered it at Books-A-Million and they said it would be in August 1 and they would call, maybe. Well I didn't get a call this morning so who knows. I am having someone that is in town pick it up for me if it is in. I really wish that I had a Barnes and Noble closer to my house, they always have the newest stuff in on time.
Edit It came in! Wooooooo! It is beautiful! By far the best hardcover yet!

According to Ryall's BLOG: A TPB version of the first HC is coming out on Wednesday. I think part of the epicness of the trades for "AtF" has been the fact that they are in hardcover. I am not knocking TPB but I think that it is worth the extra money to have a hard copy.

I don't know, though, paperbacks are great for reading. You can bend them a bit more, not worry about damaging them, etc. I can't wait for the paperbacks.

If the typos are fixed for book 4 I might consider getting that one. Not the end of the world but it's a little distracting when Angel's last thoughts before death read "I think I'm only going to have die once" lol
[EDIT - How ironic that I mispell my typo quote]

"But I think I'm only going to have to die once" is grammatically correct.

"But I think I'm only going to have to die once" isn't in there though,
"But I think I'm only going to have die once" is.

AtF has been a fascinating ride, no doubt about that. Even though it was sometimes pretty difficult for me to follow.
Now I have a question: Am I the only one who was strongly reminded of Dark Willow when Illyria wanted to destroy the world in order to stop the pain? And then could be stopped by inserting Fred's memories? To me this felt a bit déjà-vuey.

déjà-vuey in a good way right? I don't know... it felt so right with Illyria storyline to have it go down that way. (I didn't like how Willow got away with it and now lives a 'happy' life after trying to destroy the world. and then gets a GF less than a year after Tara died...)

Well, not so much in a good way. I would have been more impressed had there not been Willow's pretty analogous storyline. But I did like the blank pages in the comic. As to Willow, we'll see how happy her life is going to be ... I think Joss has something in store to restore Karmic balance. But you are right, she was treated pretty well in season 7.
