OOO I'm so excited. Since "Aftermath" is taken place after "After the Fall", and using the continuity I think (hope) that "Aftermath" will be canon. That is sweet. I wonder if it will be longer than After the Fall.

Okay, so don't get me wrong on this. I LOVE ANGEL! I really do. When I got into Buffy & Angel it was well after the shows ended. I got into it with my girlfriend and watched them all on DVD. We went through all of BTVS and then all of Angel. Sometimes watching Angel I felt more of a connection. Being a male and all. But here is the problem I have.
When they started putting out the Buffy comics it was knew relatively quickly that there was going to be a Season 9 after Season 8, and rightfully so. But there was no such news about the Angel comics. Lynch and Whedon never really got into that subject and that got me thinking. I started to ponder wether or not this was going to be Angel's swan dive. Pulling all the humans and friends out of this hell dimension and doing it as a human. Angel as a character is always reaching for the end. He has been ever since his soul was put back. So the buring question... Is it really fair to the character & story to extend the story past it's expiration date? If Battlestar Galactica has taught us anything (or everything?) it's that sometimes for a story to go from great to leagenday it simply has to end. Maybe not completely (i.e the new miniseries/possible series Caprica or Spike spin off comics) but that major story line must have an ending. Every saga must have it's conclusion. I don't know how they are going to end ATF (Duh) and maybe it's some ingenious plot twist thats just begs for more books, but if it's not then I'll feel disappointed. Not as a fan, because lets face it, I could read new Angel story's till the cows come home, but as a reader. I want Angel to have his peace. The new cover that shows him in all the different phases in life got me thinking. The old Angel stood out for obvious reasons. My ideal ending for ATF is Angel fighting his way out of the hell dimension and aging through the process. By the time he gets everyone out he becomes an old man. But in the real world no time has passed at all. It should still be raining outside like it was in the ally. Only now Angel is old and human. Being that, he should come down with a disease that is common in old age. His purpose is done and he can die in peace. But before he dies, he gets to see Buffy one last time. She sits with him, laughs with him, cries with him and then soon after he dies in her arms. That's my perfect ending and I know everyone has there own. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses, but cautiously. Very cautiously.

She sits with him, laughs with him, cries with him and then soon after he dies in her arms. That's my perfect ending and I know everyone has there own. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story progresses, but cautiously. Very cautiously. I disagree. The whole premise of Angel is redemption and that the road to redemption never really ends. What makes Angel Angel is that he doesn't get a happy ending. There's always something else to seek redemption for. Think about it. All he's ever wanted is to be human. Now that he is, he can't stand it. He needs his powers. Remember in I Will Remember You, he finally became human and then he had to give it up because he still needed to redeem himself. No matter how much he does, he's still responsible for so much and feels so much guilt that he can really have a happy ending. That's what makes him different than Buffy. Buffy is great. But when the show ended, it didn't really leave me longing for more (don't get me wrong, I love season). But when Angel ended I wanted to knwo what happened. I had to see how it ended because one of the great things about Angel is that it's very relateable. We all have done things we're not proud of. We all have this road of redemption that we're on. In some ways, the vampire in Angel makes him more human than even Buffy.

BRIAN LYNCH said on IDW concerning "Blood and Trenches": "I just found out about BLOOD AND TRENCHES on Wednesday. It sounds cool, but I have nothing to do with it. The internet, for once, is wrong. As for who IS doing it... it's good. Really good." So not Lynch-penned then. That's disapointing. Pat, where did you find this info?

I see what you're getting at, and agree for the most part (obviously our choices of endings differ greatly, but thats irrelevent). I can tell I felt the same way as when I read the news I was much more drawn to the mini on Angel's past over the next continuation. I'm mostly just glad that the Angel books have opted for a different (and in my opinion, better) format to Buffy in their length. Once the After the Fall story ends, I may put Angel to rest, depending on the ending.

Great news, it really wore me out imagening the stories of Team Angel would end in just 6 issues. I am also very positive, that Angel will survive AtF. I can't wait to see what the upcoming stories will be, especially with AtF already having shown that there is a lot left to tell.

Maybe this is the end for Angel... But I can imagine some other characters go on further...
And what is this Shansu deal... Has it allready resolved...or is Angel's human form just some kind of punishment from the Senior Partners... being weak just when you can;t use it...
And I thought he signed for losing this prophecy in 5.22?
Who can help me with this questions?

Angel signed his Shanshu away in 5x22; he's human like you said because W+H made him so.

So it's still possible that Gunn or Harmony will get the benefits after the apocalypse...

So it's still possible that Gunn or Harmony will get the benefits after the apocalypse... Nope. It has to be a vampire with a soul. Spike could still get it....

I started really excited, but the more I saw about it the more I got really worried. Its awesome they are continuing the comics, but the fact that Joss has not been mentioned and it looks like Brian isn't doing any of the writing is very worrysome.
Is it canon? Does Joss really care about Angel anymore? The answers to these questions seem to be leaning towards the "not so much" side of things.

More information from IDW: ANGEL
Writer Brian Lynch spoke of plans for the series beyond the ongoing storyline. After the Fall, which picked up where Joss Whedon's TV series left off, will became Aftermath in #17, and see the cast of characters dealing with the huge repercussions to come out of #16's. Novelist Jennifer Armstrong will join Lynch in this latest chapter. Additionally, John Byrne will present a stand-alone Angel mini-series next year, Angel: Blood and Trenches, telling a tale of Angel's experiences during World War I.www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0807/29/idw.htmSo it sounds to me like a plan is in motion to make Angel an ongoing series (since Aftermath is being considered #17). Maybe Brian can shed more light on this? I've never heard of Jennifer Armstrong, but a quick Google search told me that she has written some (about 100) history oriented novels.

The Jennifer Armstrong thing is kind of weird. I'm leaving judgements until I read it, but I've never heard of her. Good to hear that she "joins" Brian, cause I hope he doesn't go too far.

Edna, it's not Jennifer Armstrong. Ryall said that is wrong and that it is fantasy novelist KELLEY ARMSTRONG.

Thanks for clearing that up Pat. Wonder why the IDW information release had the wrong name? Emmie and I were scratching our heads over Jennifer Armstrong in the chatbox yesterday, so I am glad we have the accurate name now. *goes to Google Kelley Armstrong*
