Check it out HERE. Nothing new really, but it does reveal some of the working dynamic between herself, Scott Allie, and Joss himself, as well as offers some speculation as to how Joss works with the others. EDIT: I know I should probably post this in the "Joss and Co." board instead, but it just seems more relevant over here.

I agree that it should be over here.
What's this about Jo's upcoming break from Season Eight? Did we know about this?

That was a great interview. I love getting more insight into how she creates the covers.
And another break? I don't remember an announcement, but ugh! So close to the end.

It's too bad if she's going to miss Meltzer's arc. There should be some pretty epic stuff going on there.

I think it's been mentioned by Allie before in one of the previous Q&As before that Jo will be taking a break, though it was never specified when. I'm guessing it'll be during Meltzer's arc. The way I figure it... better Meltzer's arc than Joss'.

The way I figure it... better Meltzer's arc than Joss'. Agreed, better Meltzer's than Joss'. Especially when you consider that Meltzer's arc is going to be all about Twilight, a comics-created character, which means his likeness isn't dependent on photo-realism. Although, dang when it's revealed to be someone we know, don't we want Chen depicting him on the cover? Oy. I hope it's not a break for the entire arc. But last time she took a break it was for the entire Wolves at the Gates arc, so I'd assume it's the same for the entirety of Meltzer's five issues. Still a shame. I wonder who'll be tapped to do the vanguard cover art in her place. Jon Foster? I really loved his cover for A Beautiful Sunset, but less so for his Wolves at the Gates covers.

I really loved his cover for A Beautiful Sunset, but less so for his Wolves at the Gates covers. 2 questions for Scott right there. First, when is Jo taking off? Secondly, who's holding the line until she gets back? Unless of course it's Joss' arc that she's skipping out on. Foster... I think I have his #11 and #13 covers... but even then, not that big a fan of either.

I think Jon Foster's covers are very underrated. His #11, #12 and #14 are three of my favorites out of every cover. If he doesn't come back, I think Brian Horton would be a great choice. He did the covers for the last few arcs of the old Buffy series. Very beautiful and fits with Jo's style.

I really hope it isn't Foster. His cover to #12 is amazing, but his #13 and #14 are just bad. The rest of his work is passable, but the painted covers are one of my favorite aspects of Season Eight. Looking forward to covers is always a joy for me, and the Foster months were pretty hard.

I liked Foster's #12 a lot, and his #11 was okay, but the others... meh. It's just strange to hear again how many people have trouble with Jo's Dawn. I've thought pretty much every single one was a very good likeness, and never had any trouble recognizing her, so I still just don't get that... And I'd love to see that picture of Eliza and the #9 cover. I remember being very curious about what her reaction would be back when it came out, because that was when she was still on the "You'll see God before you see me naked" stance. Of course, she's done a nude scene since then, and taken off most of her clothes in DH promo shoots, so obviously her attitude's changed...

I only liked Foster's 11 and 12 covers, personally. And his 13, 14 and 15 are my least favorite of all the main covers. Jeanty's are far superior for Wolves at the Gate, especially the Seven Samurai homage for 15.

Double posting to announce:
Emmie: A while ago you'd mentioned that Chen would be taking another break from doing covers and I was wondering if the artist who'll be temporarily filling in has been decided on - can you share it with us?
Scott Allie: Massimo Carnevale is doing #29; Adam Hughes, #30. Just a two month break.

I love you Emmie.
And cool! So we should be seeing Carnevale's cover in the next few days, right? Not familar with his work though. Adam Hughes! Such an amazing artist! Didn't he do the Once More With Feeling poster? Can't wait to see both!

Okay, more awesomeness from Allie:
Emmie: Thanks! Really excited for the Carnevale cover - loved his work for Y: the Last Man.
Scott Allie: He did Twilight, and it is great!!!
*dies* I'm so excited for solicitations now!

He did Twilight unmasked? Is that what Scott was saying? Does that mean #29 is when we find out who he is? (Or the end of #28, since obviously they won't give the secret away on the cover of the issue it's revealed in.) Eh, maybe he just meant masked Twilight. Adam Hughes is a great choice too. He was actually the first person I thought of as a replacement artist. (You can add at least one cup size to any female on his cover, though. )

Yeah, I'm thinking that Joss probably had to ride Hughes like the TNA police. Keep him in line.
And I'm pretty sure he meant Twilight masked since it's for the Retreat arc. Though it's nice to know there'll be some big Twilight involvement very soon.
