Well, if it´s pointless, why do you contribute? It's pointless because if Season Eight were a TV show, the entire storyline would be different. As Andrew said, the series wouldn't leave Buffy as much as it does in "The Chain" and "NFFY". And I doubt we would have had Giant Dawn or a Fray crossover. It's just not as simple as "issue = episode". I contribute because I'm a fan so this kind of pointless crap interests me.

For me, different title = new episode. Like Graduation Day? Or Becoming? Or What's My Line? (heh, season 2 had a lot of two-parters) 1-2 Long Way Home - Two-parter 3 The Chain 4-5 No Future For You - Two-parter 6 Anywhere But Here 7 A Beautiful Sunset 8-9 Wolves at the Gate - Two-parter 10-11 Time of Your Life - Two-parter 12 After these Messages 13 Harmonic Divergence 14 Swell 15 Predators and Prey 16 Safe 17 Living Doll 18-19 Retreat - Two-parter 20-21 Meltzer's arc - Two-parter 22-23 Joss finale arc - Two-parter Yeah it's not perfect and the mediums are different. But Joss mapped it out as a season. It's supposed to resemble the structure of the show.

It resembles a season insofar as it has a clear defined goal, and the start, middle and end should form a coherent story. But as pointed out before, if this were a TV season, the arcs would be more diffused and certain plot points wouldn't be where they are now, but rather shuffled slightly. That's of course assuming that the budget would've permitted something on the scale of the current S8.

For me, different title = new episode. I also see it this way.

But as pointed out before, if this were a TV season, the arcs would be more diffused and certain plot points wouldn't be where they are now, but rather shuffled slightly. That seems awfully specific. How exactly would it be different? Personally, I don't really see it that way. Each televised season was very different in how strong the longer arcs were and the seasonal arcs. That's of course assuming that the budget would've permitted something on the scale of the current S8. Oh, I think it's safe to say so much of what we're seeing in the comic would never have happened on TV.

Yes... all good stories should have it. But I was contrasting it to a more serialized form of storytelling, like things in the Marvelverse where a lot of times, things just drag on forever because there is no overarching vision other than what an individual writer brings to the table. That seems awfully specific. How exactly would it be different? Personally, I don't really see it that way. Each televised season was very different in how strong the longer arcs were and the seasonal arcs. A good example would be "NFFY" and how instead of having a couple of episodes that moved that far away from Buffy, it would be have to be integrated differently into televised format. Perhaps make the Buffy/Simone and Faith/Gigi interaction foils to each other and underscore just how different their approaches are and all that. Some of the standalones wouldn't be standalone episodes, but rather chopped up and moved into various places where they would make sense in terms of storytelling in televised format. But in the comic book format, the way S8 is currently written makes sense. The only thing I'd change would have been to be a lot more focused on the point of having the 5-issue "Predators and Prey" arc. Which, by the way, if on TV would never be 5 kinda disparate stories. All those stories would have had to be interwoven quite intricately. Again, lots of creative editing would be needed to get all that material shuffled about.

I always imagined NFFY being one episode, just because the story is written so well by Vaughan that it could fit as a one ep narrative if you cut down part 1 a bit.
Time of Your Life I would actually go as far to say three parts. I know this was never done on the show, but I actually think it could work well. The first two issues would be combined as one ep, so you don't end an ep with Fray which wouldn't work well when we don't know her. It would end best with Willow's reveal. The second episode could just end it all, but it would be nice to end with Fray betraying our Buff, and then making good way in the last issue for some kicko fighto and a dramatic end scene.
I agree with the poster saying Harmony's story could be interwoven into other episodes easily. I would also cut A Beautiful Sunset completely actually, as it would never work as an episode - "Buffy decides to go on patrol with Satsu, intimate scene, they get attacked, fight, get butts kicked, intimate scene, end". It has no story to it unlike the other one-shots.

If each episode had to be roughly 40 minutes long, then I would put it like this:
8x01 - The Long Way Home 1 & 2 8x02 - The Long Way Home 3 & 4 8x03 - The Chain 8x04 - No Future For You 1-4 (I think it can all fit in 45 minutes) 8x05 - Anywhere but Here 8x06 - A Beautiful Sunset/ half of Wolves at the Gate 1 (but ends with the Batsu reveal) 8x07 - the rest of Wolves at the Gate 1 & 2 (with TotV: Antiques included in flashbacks) 8x08 - Wolves at the Gate 3 & 4 8x09 - Time of Your Life 1 & 2 8x10 - Time of Your Life 3 & 4 8x11 - After These Messages 8x12 - Harmonic Divergence / Harmony Bites 8x13 - Swell / Vampy Cats (Shown in a scene where the Scoobies are watching TV) 8x14 - Predators & Prey / Safe 8x15 - Living Doll / Always Darkest (Can be the ending sequence) 8x16 - TotV: The Thrill / Harmony Comes into the Nation (it's w/o Buffy, but eh, so is The Chain) 8x17 - Retreat 1, 2
The rest I'm unsure of for obvious reasons.
