A question for you guys who have read the comics (unlike me). How many seasons/episodes do you think it would take to tell the full story? I haven't read the comics, but my friend who has said that it's kind of hard to tell where they'll go with it. He said the characters are the same, but that they've already deviated from the story quite a bit in terms of timing of things. I think he said the entire first book is of him in his hometown and, as we saw, they already took him to Atlanta within the first episode.

By "entire first book" are you talking about just the first issue? Or the first arc/TPB? In the comics, IIRC, Rick meets up with Lori and the others in the the second or third issue. So, your friend was right, if he was referring to the first issue. IMO, things are pretty on track so far. The first arc was five issues, so season one, which will be six episodes, will probably cover what it covered and hopefully end as it ended.

Hmm, I had assumed he meant the first TPB, but I just read Issue #1 online at the official Image Comics site and maybe he was referring to issue #1 and just meant that episode 1 went a little further into the story than Issue #1 did. If they're sticking pretty close to an issue by issue basis, there's a potential for this series to be on for awhile as long as the ratings stay up enough for AMC to back it. It was interesting reading the first Issue compared to the first episode. Things seemed to just zoom by so much faster in the issue

Some pictures from the third episode have been released. They're sorta spoilery, I guess.

Continuing my tradition of having weird things stick out to me, there was one part in the episode that bothered me. Why did that woman not know how to use a gun? She was carrying one, and there are zombies everywhere. You'd have thought that she would have learned how to use it as soon as she realized that there were zombies everywhere. I don't know, maybe she just wasn't paying enough attention at that time ans she did know how to turn the safety off, but I just found it slightly irksome. Overall I loved this episode though. Especially when they were walking through the crowd of zombies. Much tension. Haven't watched episode two yet, but in Volume One of the comics (which is like the first five issues I think? says the oblivious trade paperback reader) the women and children don't do any gun-handling until after Rick returns. They all go out and do some target practice for, oh, three weeks or so? So there's that. I imagine they're attempting to stick with the comic on that one, since... Guns play a pivotal role thematically in the first volume of the comic, and I've predicted that the first season is going to cover all of that, more or less.

Yeah don't worry orangejuicepony, Andrea learns how to use a gun VERY well pretty soon.

Alright good because even this week I was watching and for most of the episode I was getting pretty annoyed at the female characters. All the men went off to go shoot zombies and other badass things and then women just sit around doing laundry. It seems unfair and I really liked when that one woman pointed it out. I forgot her name, but I really like her so far. They are living with zombie and all of them should know how to protect themselves instead of seeming to rely on the men to do it. I am giving it a chance though because I have read the first trade paperback and I know that they learn how to shoot. It's just annoying me right now. Also I'm not sure if the problem with the division of labor keeps up, but if it does I can see that getting to me. Overall I really like the show though, this just eats at me a little. I want to see Shane do some laundry and I want to see at least one of the women to help protect the group. I should go reread the TPB I have, because I'm pretty sure there is some improvement in the female characters, but then again I have only read the first one...*goes to a comic books store.*
Norman Reedus!

Episode 3 was great. I loved that it focused more on the characters this time around.
Andrea is still my favorite. I love Carl, Rick's son; His actor is great, for his age. Glenn is still awesome. And I loved the ending of this ep; The shot. (It was a total 'Saw'. Bwahaha.)

Yeah, episode 3 is following the general themes of the comic fairly well as far as the camp is concerned. Obviously gender roles and the division of labor came up in this episode -- always should be on the mind in a post-apocalyptic scenario like this.
What a great episode by the way. How about that teaser? Yeesh.

Another awesome one. I wouldn't mind if Rick's wife gets eaten by a zombie real soon. It's totally gross that they did the deed with their son sleeping like a foot away. Don't you think the poor boy has experienced enough mental trauma without having to listen to his parents boinking in the same tent. Gross. Shane got some points with me for beating the poop out of that wife beater guy. I hope the girls will start kicking some undead arse pretty soon too.

While Shane went to far, Ed definitely deserved some some slight ass kicking. Maybe even a medium amount.

The show convinced me to give the comics a go, and I just finished the first arc. While I really enjoy the comics, I think they can be over dramatic and even cheesy at times. I think the dialogue is a major downer in certain parts; Too stiff, and written without soul. With that out of the way, it's a great comic overall, and I plan to continue reading! It looks as if the first season will just focus on the first arc (1-6), and I hope they remain loyal to the arc's ending, because I loved it. I didn't suspect Carl doing what he did, and it was a great moment. I think the show could play it even better if they wanted to. It'd also be a great way to end the season. Next episode, I hope they focus on the gun training.

Shane got some points with me for beating the poop out of that wife beater guy. I loved that. Nothing better than watching a scumbag get what's coming to him. Kinda like watching in glee as Darth Rosenberg goes all Kill Bill on Warren. Not gonna lie, I mimic Willow's hand motions every time I get to "Bored now". Then I take a good sip of red wine, and smile contentedly.

Episode 4 was continuing the great season! Poor Amy; I knew she was long gone with seeing the opening scene. And it was her BIRTHDAY. Ever worse.

Word of mouth for this show must be insane, as the ratings for episode 5 beat even the premiere's. My mom is even hooked on the show and this isn't something she usually watches.
Can't wait for the finale, especially since the CDC storyline is completely new.
