I'm always in the minority when it comes to cover preferences >.< I've never been a huge fan of Jo Chen's covers (I think half of them are butt ugly to be honest), and lately have found myself preferring Jeanty's. And for once everyone prefers the variant, but this time I found myself liking the other cover. But Jo Chen didn't do that cover so that could explain why. Having said that....is there anyone else that isn't that fond of Jo Chen? I think her Buffy covers are super overrated....so it is just me then?....damn.

I would consider myself less extreme than you in my nonplussed-ness when it comes to Chen's covers. Some of them, I find to be quite beautiful, others, just very superficially pretty. More often than not, it's the latter. That said, Jeanty has had some amazing covers, but he's also had some duds. I do like his more conceptual covers, though...

I also find a few of her covers rather beautiful. I always collect the issues with the covers I think is best and I do have a few of the Jo Chen ones because I love them...but yeah, I still find most of them not so beautiful, lol.

With Chen it seems, she usually gets out really good covers, but sometimes, the likeness is just "meh", especially lately. But then there are some covers that deserve serious praise and that's why I'm comfortable with her being the main cover artist.
Jeanty however, I really don't care for his covers, though I appreciate his art concepts.

The Giles/Buffy conversation actually calls all the way back to Long Way Home. And Buffy is going to Andrew with an idea? Intriguing. October please hurry!

This feels really weird, it feels like the final fight of the season, the final show down with the big bad. Like seson 3, faith fight before the mayor. The adam fight before Restless. The trio before Dark Willow. Caleb before the Uber vamps. What do they all have in common? The final fight is more epic than the one before it, so what the hell is going to be going down in the final 5 issues???! Very excited for this, I may even save issue 4 until issue 5 comes out, so i can read both in one epic sitting.

Interesting because this actually makes me like Willow all the more. Her easy acceptance of the previous issue (what I referred to as her "baby high") has lifted and she's coming back down to Earth. She drank the koolaid, gave up her magic and now she can't get it back. Sucks. But that's real.
I can't help, but wonder what is going on in Buffy's head. She says, "Slayers don't use guns" and Giles has to remind her that she's "not a Slayer anymore." How was she planning on fighting Twilight's army without her Slayer power/magic and without using guns?

How was she planning on fighting Twilight's army without her Slayer power/magic and without using guns? Erm... she said she had an idea... and B is pretty radical. Perhaps that's where the Tibetan gods/goddesses come into play. According to Jeanty, Jane drew quite heavily from Tibetan folk lore/mythology. As I've yet to see this, perhaps that comes up in this issue. Interesting preview. I will note that once again, the first page is missing. Wonder why? Can't be that spoilerish... EDIT: Thumbnails added to OP.

Ok, for reals, spoiler tags aren't working in preview, so if you don't want to see my reaction to the preview pages, skip the remainder of this message. - I'm glad Willow freaked the eff out. That is good.
- Guns? That is never a good sign.
- Ugh. Xander just had to support Dawnie by the WAIST.... didn't he?? *hi-ralph*
- I wonder what it was that Andrew was referring to.

Maybe they summon the Tibetan god of protection to defend Tibet's countryside against the attack, thereby aiding them in their battle against Twilight. The god stops Twilight for them in the name of protecting the land, Buffy just happens to be on it

Erm... she said she had an idea... and B is pretty radical. Xi, I'm talking about before. She just said now "I've got an idea." It seems pretty spur of the moment which says to me that she didn't have a plan besides giving up the power and not using guns. I wonder if the idea didn't come from being presented with a gun and realizing that wasn't the way for her... She has two doors to choose from: Door #1 Slayer Powers is closed. Door #2 Guns is one she refuses to open. So Buffy being Buffy creates Door #3.

Well, same thing in S7, no? Door #1: Rape part deux for more power. Door #2: Surrender/run/retreat/etc. What does Buffy do? Create Door #3: Empower all the Potentials! But to address your earlier question, I don't think Buffy had a plan. It's been so long since she's needed little more than a pointy stick to defend herself. So she was just resistant to the idea of guns... probably had nothing to contribute. Plus hey, the Scythe... quite swingable.

OK, I love Willow's reaction here. MUCH more believable than her weirdness last issue. So she's having a delayed reaction to Buffy's confession. This is great, because now that they're both on the same page they can try and work toward a solution.
I'm not sure why Willow has no magic. Didn't she tell Oz last issue that she wasn't having any success with suppressing her magic?
This business with the guns seems tragically ridiculous. They're about to face an army of elite trained soldiers, and they're just now being shown which end of a gun is which, with an attack coming within hours. Their Slayer aptitude with weapons is gone (and probably never existed where firearms are concerned). Their only advantage is their quasi-military discipline from being in Buffy's army, which might just enable them to learn in time which end to point at the enemy.
I feel sorry for Will... all her newfound (albeit odd) optimism from last issue destroyed in a flash. And she's right... she's right about everything. I love that Buffy responds to her outburst with compassion rather than resentment. (B is probably feeling some serious guilt right about now, I imagine.)
You know what their best bet would be? Contact the Chinese military and tell them a foreign army is about to appear in Tibet, and give them the location. I promise you, the sky will be full of helicopter gunships within the hour.

I promise you, the sky will be full of helicopter gunships within the hour. That's so Burn Notice! I can easily see Michael Westen doing this and because of that alone, I approve. It's sadly too good of a solution to go down that way, though.

Plus, considering the world hates the Slayer Army, I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese showed up against Buffy.

Plus, considering the world hates the Slayer Army, I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese showed up against Buffy. The Chinese aren't like the rest of the world. Submitting themselves militarily to some masked foreigner with an army of American troops is not something they would do. And I don't think they watch "Harmony Bites" in Beijing. But that assumes any of the people of the world behave logically or even plausibly in season 8... and that unfortunately is a big assumption.
