We're on the same page, Andrew. And I'd like to add a short fic rec that illuminates this point in the most hilarious fashion: In Alphabetical Order - by beer_good_foamy. One day in Tibet, Willow puts two and two together. Buffy remembers putting one and one together. It adds up to about 7 billion. Seriously, this is hilariously funny and a quick read. Great entertainment.

A vampire hero saves all of LA. Some may consider Spike a hero too, especially his flock. But that's it. People know what vampires are like. Gunn killed quite a few innocents himself, and I doubt he was the only vampire making kills. That itself would mean that "AtF" is NOT a great set-up for this storyline. The Sunnydale Syndrome was a background plot device. But so is the current situation. The focus is on Twilight and his goons against Slayers. The anti-Slayer sentiment sets the tone, much like denial set the tone for Sunnydale. I seriously doubt if S8 will acknowledge the "AtF" storyline. There's no reason to. Aside from the deliberate crossovers, both TV shows maintained a very separate air about them. Yes, but that one vampire was famous and his heroic actions pretty much trump everything else that happened in LA. People might know that some vampires are evil, but everyone knows about Angel, he's iconic. I agree with you that the two series should remain mostly separate. However, now that Buffys gone global, it's odd that such a major event as the Fall of LA goes unmentioned. I'm waiting for the twists and the end of the season before I call it "shit writing". For all we know, Joss is messing with our own "subjectivity of reality" just like he did in Enemies. In the end, perhaps Buffy and the Slayers will have humanity back on their side once the solid and sane "middle class" rises up to overthrow the extreme human hysterics and slays the vampires with the Slayers. You're right, "shit writing" is unfair, I'm just exaggerating out of frustration. But I do think this beats Addict Willow as the clumsiest handled story in Buffy so far.

It would be funny to see a media battle between the world's two most famous vampires.... Harmony taking the anti-Slayer position and Angel the pro-Slayer one. (Assuming Angel is pro-Slayer at this point).
After all, who would the public respect more: a silly airhead with a reality show, or a genuine hero and champion of good who saved L.A. from Hell?
(Actually, maybe it's better if we don't see the answer to that.)

But like Harmony is like so much more fun than tall, dark and brooding. Like, she has like really interesting friends... and like she goes to all these cool D-list parties, and like... has fun. Also, she's like totally blond, and she's so fun... like that one time, she like totally jumped into a pool full of hot guys in like her dress. Oh, and she's so relatable... I mean, I like totally get where she's coming from, with the whole anti-Slayer thing. Just because she doesn't have a soul is no reason to persecute her... that's like... fascism. Or something. I mean... I totally think that everyone should have equal rights.

I think Brian mentioned elsewhere in the Angel forum that the Senior Partners laid a glamour around L.A. so no one would even really think about it... out of sight, out of mind kind of idea. So once the glamour was removed and everything put back together at the end of AtF, does that mean suddenly everyone remembers again? If so, will they know about Angel's heroics? One thing worth noting is that Angel's heroism doesn't seem to extend beyond the United States as of yet, and since Buffy has been taking place everywhere but America, it's only a tiny leap to assume they've been so wrapped up in their own story that the Fall of L.A. is only a side-note to "What's happening to Angel" which as I believe Joss has said is only going to be mentioned if it's important to the story. As there hasn't been much mention yet, I doubt Angel's newfound heroism is going to play much of a role in Buffy's tale.

The whole L.A. thing is a weird situation. Everyone in L.A. remembers spending months in Hell, then being rescued through the actions of Angel & Co... but nobody outside of L.A. remembers anything of the sort. All they know is that one day, all the people from L.A. suddenly started babbling about going to hell and demons and vampires and whatnot. So everyone outside of L.A. likely thinks everyone in L.A. is insane, and Angel's fame and popularity are probably confined to that city.
