Lately I have been thinking about the expansion of the slayalive.com domain. Beyond just having a forum, since Buffy forums are a dime a dozen on the web. But there aren't very many good quality fan sites out there, aside from a small group! Some are nice, but haven't been kept up to date over the years! My dream is to expand SlayAlive beyond a simple (yet amazing!) forum, to be a full-fledged website too. With archives of Buffy collectibles and information on them, links to as well as original fan-fic, fan-art, livejournals, wallpapers, and icons. Transcripts, galleries, etc. And whatever else YOU might think of! What if we did this, would you be okay with the forum URL changing to slayalive.com/forum? This means we could hypothetically have things like: - slayalive.com/forum
- /fanfic
- /fanart
- /gallery
- /transcripts
- /collectibles
- /blog
- /customfigures
- /screencaps
- /collections
- /downloads (like wallpapers, icons, avatars, and banners)
I bought the domain years ago, and have yet to take full advantage of the services offered, other than the name itself. I would really like to have more to this site, that a forum setting doesn't do very well! What does everyone think? Ideas? EDIT: Also note that this is something that I have been thinking about for a year now, so I have thought about it for a while! Also, moderators and members...I would need help gathering and generating new content for the site too!

I'd love it.
It would be a lot easier to organize. For example the fanart. We could divide the pages by character, couple, season, banners, WPs, avatar, so in case people felt like looking at Xander-WPs, they wouldn't have to look through lots and lots of forum threads, they'd just have to upload one page.
I'd love to help.

I like this idea. A lot. The front page should have the slayalive Twitter feed integrated. Then it could serve as an instant news feed for the site. I'll think of more ideas later.

I'd love to help. Exactly, while the forum is outstanding, all forums naturally are for discussion threads, not so much for galleries and resources. This was we could have pages for things like this. It could be posted on the forum, then also copied to the site! We could even go the distance and make our own Buffy encyclopedia, including character bios, episode listings, and so much more!

Honestly I think its a great idea. The forum will always be the same as it now is and having additional things will not take the forum spirit way, at least I believe it wont.
There could be an avatar section with a collection of Whedon avatars for members to use and a guide to show new members how to use them.
I love the idea of having transcripts and screencaps on the site. I hope this goes ahead to be honest. ;D

What a fantastic idea! I really think it would be awesome to have a Slayalive site, and still being able to enjoy all the things the actual forum offers us, there would be so much more! And I can imagine it'd really bring in new viewers and members alike. Having so much Buffy information in one place is something I've always wanted. I mean I know there is Whedonesque and other big ones but they aren't really search and access friendly (bit messy) and I find them hard to navigate! I'm sure there are people out there who have the same problems! I would also like to put my name foward to help out with anything and everything! I'm happy to help with the information gathering, writing up of bios/descriptions/summaries etc, as well as finding photos for galleries and newsy/bloggy stuff - well, I'm up for anything so please don't hesitate to ask/involve me! How exciting! ;D

I like the idea Especially the fanart and fanfic sections, though all the other parts sound great too. If you're interested in making the fanfic section an archive, then I recommend the efiction script (http://efiction.org/) - it's pretty easy to install and set up and the result is a nice looking, well-organised fiction section. For an example of efiction in action, my forum's archive is here.

Something I think we can do is ask permisson on other sites so we can copy and use their episode guides, reviews etcetc if necassary, since that would be a huge time saver. It might not be nessacary in case a lot of people help out here on slayalive, but it's something to think about.

And I also have screencaps for all Buffy episodes in HQ already, from a friend

Forgot to mention in my previous post that I'd be happy to help out with this however I can. If you do decide to use efiction then I'm pretty well versed in how that all works.
For a gallery, the coppermine script is probably worth mentioning.

I actually started a kind of Buffy encyclopedia a while back (with the help of the other Erica) but got side tracked (baby! lol) I could definitely try to pick it back up again, with help, if you wanted. I still have some of it, some of it has been lost though

Yes, any and all help would be much appreciated! I do want to go about this in the right way though, which means slowly, haha.
I think if we all think as one, and know what we need to do...it'll be the most kick-ass Buffy site on the block. Plus, I'll make it all pretty lookin'.

Weren't you and Erica (the other one) also keeping a track listing of all collectables? Yeah but I haven't updated it for ages! Plus I think I missed some from the original list. It can always be worked on again though. I've got lists of all the books, magazines, comics etc for both Buffy and Angel.

Buffyworld allows the copying of their Transcripts, with credit. And I also have screencaps for all Buffy episodes in HQ already, from a friend This is awesome! Let's do the dang thing, babe. You know I'm all about organizing and making things pretty. I'm just bringing over my old posts from my The Source days: The Buffyverse fandom is so diverse. There are so many different facets - fanfiction, fanart (banners, avatars, videos), academic essays, blogs, episode discussion, interviews, etc. So many different websites, forums, live journal communities and blogs where all the fans congregate.
I just think it would be unbelievably cool if there was a way to tie the Fandom community together. Bringing together the best of the best of everything produced by the fans. The best fanfiction, the best fan videos, best fan art, the best reviews. The best of the past 11 years. In the past year I've gotten to know a lot of the Buffyverse fans better and there's a lot of gold material out there.
I'm not sure if Slayalive is the right format for this (or what format would be right, really) but perhaps we could start a project affiliated with our Slayalive.
I know this is ridiculously ambitious, but I dream big.
What do you guys think? Would anyone be interested in helping me?
ETA: Remember the Buffysearch.com engine that went down back in 2004. I'm thinking in this respect of trying to get the fandom organized on the internet. Not necessarily a search engine, but something that collects the 'Best of the Best' out there.
Live Journal Community and Users
Buffyverse Blogs
Academic Pursuits Slayage Academic Texts published on the Buffyverse
Video
Having Buffyverse videos on the site would be awesome. Like having copies of the lost dailies for the show. Interviews with creators and actors, etc.
Podcasts
Print and Online Media Old Buffy Magazines Buffyverse-related Interviews and Articles
Fanfiction Listing of Fanfiction Archive Websites Listing of all the Fanfiction Awards Sites Listing of LJ Fanfiction Communities
FanArt Collections of FanArt - deviant art stuff, etc.
Buffyverse Creators Links to Buffyverse folks blogs, websites (Jane Espenson, Brian Lynch, Stephen Mooney)
Ok guys, help me think about the areas some more. Feel free to copy this list and tweak it, adding more stuff.
***Basically, if there's an area here where you feel like you're well-versed, call dibs and start to research it. This is going to be a list of sources of "the best" out there.
So if you were compiling the list of all the best and most active Buffy forums, just make a list and have the links for each site. Google is your friend here.
i.e. Two of the best websites for source information about the Buffyverse are Buffy Wiki and Buffy World

This is a great idea... Slayalive could become an all-purpose fan site/forum/resource, like Whoosh was/is for Xena fandom. It would be the perfect place to put my Buffyverse cast index and character index, and the expanded versions I'm working on for the whole Jossverse. (Would contributors to the website have access to their own documents for purposes of updating?)

Allowing contributors would be great!!
