I'm a fan of the dedication. Juliet really loves this character.

i just read this and it confused the hell outta me. Why did that mob of people attack dru? who was that mob of ppl? why is that mental institution still trying to treat dru even after she killed almost everyone in it? and since when did dru have the ability to levitate herself? The answers to all these questions are in the book. Read it again, think about it. Juliet was very meticulous with the planning. It all pays off. It's not spelled out, but it's all in there.

Yeah, I noticed when reading that the book takes full advantage of the comic book medium to tell the story. It's the kind of thing that could only be justified by a broken (in the sense of crazy) character like Dru. In a week of good pulls, this was an absolute treat for me to read.

I really, really, really enjoyed this issue, and this 2-parter as a whole. Drusilla was captured so perfectly, and I can rave about the art all day long. So much was portrayed in the art, that it is clear that was the story telling device for this 2-parter. The flashbacks with Angelus and Darla were great, and I LOVED the ending. Dru's "Hell" turned out to be very different than the Hell we saw in After the Fall, and I thought that was genius. Only Drusilla could find such bliss in Hell. Really fantastic issues that I have re-read a few times together, just to get the meaning behind every panel. I love it when comics support that.

Good issue. A little underwhelmed after how near perfect #24 was, but this was still very enjoyable.
It was very interesting. I didn't expect the story to go in the direction it did, was sort of excited to see Drusilla wreak havoc all over Hell-A, but the twist at the end was so great. The art, like last issue, was pretty much perfect. I appreciate that it was really the driving force of telling the story, but I wouldn't have minded a little more plot. It will take less than five minutes to go through this issue during future readings. I also feel like some questions went unanswered. It's easy to assume the answers, but it would've given the overall story more meat. The flashbacks and how After the Fall tied into it were cool, though.
Overall, I thought this two-parter was great and I'm glad we got it. It was awesome to see Drusilla again and go deep, very deep, into her mind. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more of her in the future. More Juliet collaborations would be neat too.

got this issue earlier today and i'll only say a few things:
1. The ambiguity of the issue is what really makes me like it, not knowing how or why or when exactly things are happening since it isnt explicit ( tho its implied)
2. The sam shearon cover is definetly my fav of the two variants but it was a hard choice.
3. In 23 they had a solicit for dru's issues but her issue (25) doesnt have any solicits for boys and their toys...hmmm
4. The gallery in the back is gorgeous, I wonder if that was juliets idea.

I finally got this issue. I enjoyed it. It was stylistically fascinating... sort of like The Prisoner (though with a lot more gore.)
I'm pretty sure my interpretation of what's actually happening is wrong, however.

Merr... I got the issue and read it, and was totally confused by it. I'm not much of a deep thinker, and since some of you guys have it all figured out, can someone share their thoughts on what's really going on?

Let's see how much of this I can get right...
Dru is in a mental institution of some sort, where they don't know she's a vampire. This entire setup may exist solely in her demented mind... I would think in a real hospital, they'd get the idea something's wrong from the fact that she has no pulse, can't go near sunlight, and can't eat anything but blood.
The massive carnage that takes place is all in her mind. Reality is her hell.
She has memories of her long-ago time with Angelus and Darla, and precognitive visions of Hell-A and what will happen to Angel and Spike.
Dru imagines herself being attacked by all the people she's killed in her time as a vampire. Then L.A. suddenly shifts into Hell. Dru's demons come back into proper alignment, and she finds herself in a delusion of happiness. Hell is her heaven.
(A happier, but probably incorrect interpretation is that Dru walks into the sunlight, is dusted, and her innocent soul is freed from wherever it was to move on to a happy afterlife. But that's just my own sappiness coming through.)

I picked it up today, I really, really, really loved it. (very cool seeing Kendra, Sheila, her Ex and Anointed One- and Darla!) The ending was really nice, and loved how it is left up to the readers interpretation. AndrewCrossett, I really like your interpretation and I would have love for Dru to stay there forever, this is the perfect ending for the character.

I must admit, I was pretty underwhelmed by last issue but this was amazing. After #24, I was starting to wonder what Julliet Landau had actually contributed; the story seemed pretty basic and predictable, only the artwork really stood out. I even wondered if perhaps she was only writing Angel as a bit of gratuitous self-promotion (she has been plugging the shit out of these comics). However, after reading this, I now think Julliet understands Drusilla better than anyone and I have massive new-founded respect for her storytelling ability and commitment to the character. Sorry I ever doubted her. Since the story is told from Drusilla's perspective, it makes sense to blur the line between reality and delusion. At face value, this is confusing, but upon closer inspection it speaks volumes about the character and how she sees the world. I love how open-to-interpretation everything is. Here's how I understand it: - The mental institution and dead bodies are all real. Drusilla escaped and killed everyone, we know she's capable of it.
- The B&W flashbacks were Drusilla's memories of being human and Angelus tormenting her. These constantly haunt her.
- The drawings are her visions of the future; this takes place immediately before First Night.
- The people from Drusilla's past were all her mind. The two doctors couldn't see them, they were reacting solely to Drusilla's vamp face.
- The sunlight was L.A. going to hell. The Victorian sequence was simply Dru's blissful perception of hell. She never died, she was simply in Hell-A, which unfortunately for her, won't last forever.
This shows how truly perverted Drusilla is, that Earth is a nightmare for her and Hell is a dream. I'd love to read a more in-depth analysis of the story, because I think there's a lot of substance there. This is one of the few Angel comics that really holds it's own against Joss Whedon's work. Remember, this is a comic of the spin-off of the show that gave us "Restless", there's a high standard to meet and this succeeds. Btw, does anyone recognise all the cameos from Drusilla's past? I think I see Dalton, Kendra, the Chaos Demon, the Anointed One, Sheila Martini, the train conductor from "Crush", Spike's mother Anne, and possibly Buffy (her first IDW appearance?). Anyone else I'm missing?

Your interpretation of what happened is exactly how I saw it as well, so that's cool. Really loved the ending, that was a great surprise that worked brilliantly with her character.

I want to know who the guy next to Sheila is, and the blonde woman with the bags under her eyes behind Dalton and Kendra. They seem pretty prominent so I'm kicking myself for not recognising them. EDIT: Maybe the guy is Holland Manners?? I'm trying to think of people Drusilla has killed or been involved in killing...

Wow. See, I wouldn't have ever thought of that conclusion. I just read it, was all confused and stayed that way until I sought someone else to explain it to me. Maybe I would have understood it better if it were live-action, but I just don't click with comics in that way. I even get confused reading old-school Superman.
