Willow's motivation is one thing that has been sorely lacking in the comics, and that coupled with the other developments (i.e. Flying like supergirl, healing fast, living for 200 years without aging) has left me feeling more and more disconnected from her character. I think that disconnectedness is intentional on the part of the writers. Buffy and the others are feeling it too.

I think it would be cool if Willow saw Angel in the interim between chosen and the beggining of season eight.
They've always had this weird silly chemistry that I found hilarious. I'm nearly certain it wouldnt happen but as the shows kind of drifted apart it seemed like willow was more apt to pop into Angels life than buffy was.

Not a fan of either cover... Chen's just looks like a rehash of that flashback from #10... and all these awkwardly placed hands and hair bits are just way too forced looking for my liking. Also... Vasuki's arm looks kinda too long. Moline's cover on the other hand is just kinda weird, with that same half page treatment that the variant for the Tales... one-shot had.

I think it's a very beautiful and sexy cover. The concept was predictable but it works. Sure, some of the proportions are weird, it wouldn't be Chen's first time, but I still like it. Moline's cover is sort of boring though, nothing much to it.
The info sounds great. I really hope we'll get a lot of Willow-answers.

Awkward positioning or not... I'm gonna take a stand and say that's the single sexiest Buffyverse-related image I've ever seen.
Just one person's opinion.

Oh wow, I'm bringing over my reaction that I posted on Whedonesque: Art Nitpick: Um. Besides the breast-age, I'm busy wondering why Willow's neck looks so strange right around where Vasuki's arm is curling behind it. It looks like Willow's neck is trying to envelope her head. Very wrong proportion that's scaring me. The back line of her neck should be sloping down somewhere close below her ear at this angle, but instead it keeps on going back. Yikes. Monster neck.
From this angle, the back line of Willow's neck should be sloping down at the point where her jaw line meets her ear. Because Willow is facing towards us. Also note that the neck should be smaller than the length of her face. I'm looking at pictures of Hannigan in reference to this cover and she has a delicate looking neck - this one appears hulking.
There's certainly some lovely aspects to this piece. But my eyes cannot look away from the neck that keeps going back too far past the lower cap of Willow's skull.
The delicate neck of Alyson Hannigan in the closest approximation of the pose she's in here, minus the full-on nudity.
As for the resisting theory, she doesn't look like she's resisting at all to me. Willow looks like she's extremely peaceful. No resistance because there's absolutely no tension in the face. She's even partially smiling, lips turning up a bit. When Hannigan/Willow is upset, her face gets all scrunched up. Not the case here, there's just peace.
I've gotta say, the praise for Chen's likenesses is wearing thin from my corner. I'm recalling Hannigan's response upon seeing the cover for #3 and how if that was Willow, than Willow had been seriously working out. Beyond the face, I'm seeing less and less effort in making the characters look like their selves in physical form. Chen is all about perfecting the body to the point that now all the bodies look the same with the big breasts and the hippy hips and the manly muscles. And in seeking this perfection, the result is a ripped Willow who has gotten breast implants and a linebacker's neck. Awkward positioning or not... I'm gonna take a stand and say that's the single sexiest Buffyverse-related image I've ever seen. Just one person's opinion. I find the fakeness of the images and the awkwardness ruins it for me. Spike and Buffy (to me) were sexier with all their clothes on. Or Willow painting Tara's back in Restless - way sexier. Or were you limiting your comparison to comic images?

Agreed on the bit about the "resistance"... if there's resistance going on, perhaps Willow's guru is Gandhi and not Saga Vasuki.

Well, Willow isn't Alyson... and quite a bit of time has passed since she played her... and I'm not really that much of a likeness stickler anyway. Idealized art works just fine for me, and I love the way Jo does it.
I just think Willow looks absolutely gorgeous in that painting.

yikes! naughty cover.
it is of course, beautiful!!!! i just don't know how my mom is going to react when she spots it. Probably that her youngest daughter is buying mythological lesbian porn......
anyways, i am TOTALLY pumped for this! Willow's always been my favorite character, and i feel like we've had the least contact with her in Season 8, so i think it'll be a great chance to get to know her again!

Andrew, Willow is still supposed to look human though isn't she? That's my main point. The neck action going on - not how human necks look. *points above at the banner that has Willow in it* It doesn't matter what woman is being depicted, the neck doesn't extend back that far vertically from that angle. That's all I'm saying. That line is simply not right. And like Xi says, the line with Vasuki's arm extension is also strange.
Xi, this reminds me of art manips where the fanartist puts the head on at the wrong angle. Imagine if you could move Willow's head and pull it forward and to the right slightly over her neck. It might not look so wrong.

The back of her neck is in shadow and partially obscured by SV's arm and Willow's hair. I can't say it bothers me at all. I'm looking at the overall impression of the piece, which I find beautiful and erotic. We just have different ways of looking at art, I guess. I'm really curious to find out what about Willow so attracts and fascinates Saga Vasuki... and what her motives are... and everything about her and her relationship to Willow. I'm anticipating this issue almost as much as the legendary #30.
