Never have we seen such outrage I don't think. Especially from the media, who are agreeing with the fans on this! Tis a refreshing thing to see.

A small part of me is hoping that if we make enough of an uproar, the plans will be altered. I would LOVE to see the old cast and writers come together and make a kickass movie. This, though... Well, it seems surreal and ridiculous. I'm not going to completely reserve myself to any extreme opinions of the movie until more information is released, but my initial impressions are definitely not good. Exactly. Let's hope the media coverage of this, paired with our disdain for the idea causes the people behind this to re-format their plans and come correct!

I hope FOX sees our fandom going ape, and says "hey there's massive coverage of this and media interest! hey they want Joss and company back! hey Vertigo, do that!"

I don't... understand this. Are they just making a new story in the Buffy universe, or are they re-inventing Buffy herself and the world she lives in? Either way, I'm extremely disappointed. I feel a bit betrayed, really, because the storyline I've loved will be changed so drastically. (Though, I do imagine that this was how the fans of the original Buffy movie felt after the TV show aired, even though the two stories could be vaguely linked). I just think this is an awful idea. Yes, the story behind Buffy is great, but pulling away all of the things that made it as great as it was is definitely not good strategy. Gah. I might make a more coherent post when I'm less upset about this. This and prop 8 have pretty much put me in the worst mood of my life. Me too Danner. And here I was trying to take a break from the forum for personal reasons. I am so annoyed I could die! I wanna add that a new Buffy movie is a dream to me, but I never expected it would come like this. It seems like of all the fandoms, ours is always shat on. No joke. Anything set during Buffy's life in Sunnydale, as well as things like a Nikki Wood movie would be made of FAIL. Why see a movie about a chick we already know dies at the hand of Spike? Anything set in the time of Buffy Summers is doomed because we all know she is the one, other stories don't matter if she lives. It's always been about her. Even in Fray's time! Come on VERTIGO! Come CORRECT with this shit. Get JOSS, Sarah, the cast, the writers back and do this properly and it will be a hit like we haven't seen.

What's the point in doing the movie though? We have the official story straight from the source, with Joss' Season 8.
Any new project will not be relevant IMO, unless it comes from Joss Whedon. And I wonder where he is on this? Why haven't we had a comment from him, ugh!
What is this, bad news day? A Buffy-less Buffy Reboot, and Prop 8 is upheld in my state. Hate life, and wanna cry!

article hereQuote: "A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.
While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.
Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."
The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."
One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.
The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him.Speaking from Tokyo, Fran Kuzui said the company is constantly approached not only about sequels but theater, video games and foreign remakes for "Buffy." When Vertigo's Lee contacted them, they were intrigued.
"It was Roy's interest in taking Buffy into a new place that grabbed us," she said, noting that original exec producer Sandy Gallin also was consulted. "It was based on our respect for what he does, and his particular sensitivity to Asian filmmakers, that we wanted to work with him."
Kuzui, who is prepping do direct a movie in Japan in the fall, added: "Everything has its moment. Every movie takes on a life at some point, and this seems like the moment to do this."*we had too many threads popping up about this, so just use this one for all rumors and speculation and such.
Without Joss' involvement, and without the cast we know and love this will be an epic failure. Voice your opinion on the matter, post links to other sites and articles on this development! We need to say NO. The only thing this story is good for is to ignite and unite the fans and make us rally to get a CORRECT BtVS film!Petition: www.petitiononline.com/nbmwjw/petition.htmlTo: Vertigo Entertainment & Fran Rubel KuzuiDear Fran Rubel Kuzui and Vertigo Entertainment, It has come to our attention that you are in the beginning stages of planning a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie with the hopes of launching a new franchise to go along with it. It is our understanding that this movie will have nothing to do with the cast of characters from the TV we have come to love, and most importantly, nothing to do with Joss Whedon, creator and master himself. The reason the Buffyverse has remained so successful throughout the years is due to Joss's ability to execute his vision through intricate storytelling and carefully developed characters. The premise of Buffy - whether the TV incarnation, comics present or future, or any movie - cannot stand alone without his direct, hands on involvement. This was proven to the world in 1992 and will be proven again should you choose to continue in this manner. The proposed disregard of the current franchise is disrespectful to BtVS/Angel and everyone involved, from Whedon to the cast and crew right down to the fans. We would like to take this opportunity to official state that we do not support any incarnation of Buffy that is not done expressly how Joss Whedon wants it to be done. Not only do we oppose your intentions, but should you choose to continue without him, we will boycott and fight against it every step of the way. None of us may be in the direct position to stop you, but we are many, and Joss and our Buffy have taught us what a good fight takes. Sincerely, The Undersigned SIGN NOW!

The dying monk informed Buffy that Dawn was completely human: MONK No. For centuries it had no form at all. My brethren, its only keepers. Then the abomination found us. We had to hide the Key, gave it form, molded it flesh... made it human and sent it to you.
Buffy stares at him in shock as the realization sinks in.
.......
BUFFY I didn't ask for this! I don't even know... what is she?
MONK Human... now human. And helpless. Please... she's an innocent in this. She needs you.Later the gang found that it was her blood that would act as the conduit to opening the dimensional gateway, which is odd since Dawn shares Buffy's blood. Thus making anything about The Key in human form a moot story element, because anything Dawn can do, Buffy can do better per se. Evidenced by Buffy effectively closing the portal without help from anyone, including Dawn. Now, if Dawn were somehow changed back into a ball of energy maybe things would be different. Or somehow Joss fanwanks some sort of dumb "new" power for her. I would be against anything like that happening. As far as we know/have been shown Dawn is 100% human and will age and die. She isn't immortal anymore, and she isn't energy anymore either for that matter. Didn't Dawn open one of the gates to the worst hell dimension? She opened ALL the "doors", causing all dimensions to bleed into one another creating hell on earth until the dimensional rift was closed (by the Buff).

I'm really sorry everyone, but this is something I have to do. I'm just really sad and empty and I don't have it in me. I gotta go, but I will return when I am back to normal.
